Why Apple Removed iPhone's Battery Percentage

Ғылым және технология

In 2017, Apple released iPhone X. The most dramatic update to iPhone since the original. Although it took away a convenient feature that the device previously had; the battery percentage. It used to be viewable directly from the menu bar. But with iPhone X, it was moved to control center. Requiring a swipe down just to see the state of charge. Many felt this was a step backward, so why did Apple do it?

its a mind game from apple, everyone knows that they artificially make phones slower with updates so you go buy a new one and this is most likely the exact reason why they did this cringe in the first place and why it took them so long, to force users to update

@@PiMoNFeeD While they may have used to do that, it definitely doesn't happen any more. And I would say I had that exact experience after years of multiple android phones slowing down pretty badly after 2 years of software updates and wear. If you want a phone and can afford it, go iphone because it'll easily last you 5-7 years. If you want a computer in your hand with more freedom go Android. Depends on what you want.

This was my biggest annoyance when I moved from iPhone 7 to the 12 pro. So much so that I put a battery widget on my 1st screen. Took up screen real estate, but it was better than not knowing exactly how much percentage I had let. Edit: why are so many of you triggered by my post? It’s simple. I wanted the battery percentage because a quick glance is easier and quicker than swiping down the control center and swiping back back up. I already achieved this with iOS 16 and it’s made everything streamlined. Also, my preference might not be the same as yours. Simple as that. Accept it.

I feel sometimes apple implements things just because they want to. They might have had a brainstorming session as to why there shouldn't be any battery percentage indicator on the icon itself. However, when they reintroduced it, the basic thing expected from them was to give a indicative bar and not just a static one. This seems like a rookie mistake. Glad that they rectified it.

I don't mind that percentage, the biggest regret of upgrading to iOS16 is that they removed the charging notification at the lock screen when I plug in my phone. Before the update, plugging the phone will trigger the animation of the battery with a notification saying "50% charging", and then display the lock screen with the time.

I do like the way they have reimplemented it, it looks cleaner than most android designs. I for one have my battery percentage off cause it just causes me to check it way to often causing anxiety. So I really like that with iOS 16, even when you have low power mode enabled, it doesn’t force you to see the number anymore on notchless iPhones. Yeah, it shouldn't have taken 5 years to do this in the first place. We had battery percentage in the battery icon with later versions of Android 4. And Apple didn't do it right for the first time. Most people are still on iOS 16.0 with a difficult to interpret icon.

When I had my old 1st gen. SE, I relied heavily on constantly knowing my battery percentage, and planning around it. Not having the indicator would have been a massive pain. Now that I have my XR, which always lasts a day, maybe two, it’s a relief. Battery is no longer something I have to think about, and without the indicator, I don’t. When I update to iOS 16, I’m disabling it if I can. (Unless it somehow nukes my battery.)

The icon's plenty enough to tell if the battery is starting to get low. The battery percentage was never a default anywhere. The percentage is only ever gonna be an estimate as it's impossible to know exactly how much battery you have left. Also, is it really all that hard to swipe down for control centre? In a single swipe you can see your percentage so I'd consider it an overreaction anyway.

Ok, I’m confused. I am using iOS 15 and it has the battery percentage. I remember some update turning it off in the past (like years ago), but I could just turn it back on and it’s been there ever since. Anyway, looking at your picture, they don’t have an excuse even with the notch, because there are two corners. They could put the connection info in left corner instead of leaving it blank, then they’d have space for the battery graphic and percentage. Although I kinda like how it looks with the percentage inside the graphic too, as long as it’s actually big enough to see.
