Kornet is good against tanks period. The Kornet is relatively new by the way, first version in operation 90s. Merkava hull is from the 70s. I have yet to hear of one tank being hit by a Kornet while suffering only minimal damage. Considering the merkavas regardless of number have been hit with Kornets while still often having a majority of the crew survive, they seem to be doing a decent job. Also, I have not heard of a single trophy equipped one being successfully engaged with any infantry anti-tank weapon in actual combat.

The engine in the front while capable to stop older rounds, as was proven in fact in ww2, has been proven to be unable to stop or slow down significantly modern rounds, but instead beeing a source of srapnel for the crew an equipment

it wasnt so much for escape as their ammo can be loaded by pallet instead of being manhandled loaded through the hatch, it speeds up turnaround time.

One correction: The "Troop Section" isn't actually a troop section. It's where the ammo is stored. You can transport troops there, but if you do the tank only has 12 shots instead of 72 (which would make it almost useless). The idea is that once the tank has almost expended it's ammo; all the empty ammo containers can be thrown out and it can be loaded with wounded, before retreating for resupply.

We used it many times for SF deployment and sniper team deployment. just remove ammo from one side and you have enough space for team of 6 (just dont forget to fit the matrases there :) And no one expected infantry poping out of it

I saw them getting destroyed by homemade militia rockets and drones.

The video really muddied information about the tank and it’s variants. The design features for protection and armor are much more then just the trophy system. The tank was designed from the onset for crew protection. The engine is placed in the front of the tank allowing for an extra layer of protection for the crew. The tank also has a rear hatch to make extraction easier if there is a casualty or if the tank is disabled. The first and second versions had a 105mm cannon however 3rd and 4th have 120 mm cannon. Not to mention a mortar as a compliment to the armament. The engine got upgraded through its variants, meaning the current version is faster and more powerful. Speaking or power plant, the name merkava means chariot because of the fact the power plant is in the front, like a chariot.

Most modern rounds can penetrate the crew compartment despite the engine which only becomes shrapnel. The engine in front also increases the heat signature of the merkava. It was already a slow tank to begin with but it having a weak lower plate armor makes the engine vulnerable especially to engine fires. A disabled tank is usually a sitting duck. Take note that it's so much cheaper and easier and faster to design weapons to counter tanks than to design a tank itself.

@@Military-TV You should be more open to criticism, with all due respect this video is supposed to be informative but it's an information mess, mixing some characteristics between 4 different tanks (and those are 4 different tanks developed decades from each other) and forgetting to mention others, some of them very important and unique to this tank. You even had a picture of another tank (maybe an m60/Magah) as "Merkava 3" while highlighting its different parts and all when it's clearly a picture of a different tank. Well done for putting the effort but it's reasonable that people will point the errors on a video that is supposed to give out information.

05:50 - This is absolutely not the Merkava Mark 3. You probably had an editing mistake!

The Merkava 1 and 2 had the 105mm gun. It isn't until the Merkava IV that the Trophy was used. I'm surprised you didn't mention the engine being in the front for protection and to allow crew to get out of the rear. The Merkava tanks can also be used as an APC

Your right about everything besides the APC part. I serve in the infantry and have done many training ops with shirion (armour) the tank cannot be used as a APC but it is the base of the new APC the "Namer" it has room for wounded but cannot move any more than 2 or 3 soldiers and then its not combat effective because you have loose bodies inside the tank it cant maneuver or fire at 100% not to mention its super dangerous, I've been inside them and they have a rule that they dont move the turret no matter what when infantry is inside because it can easily kill or maim anyone inside not in a combat position. And it was only a ride to the start of the op after a dry run. You can fit 2 combat soldiers with full kit in the back if they are small and not negev gunners and still be combat effective, but no fun at all for the infantry inside, you are smushed up against this flimsy little metal gate that is supposed to protect you from getting chopped in half by the turret. Id rather walk :)

Forgot to mention how it failed to invade Lebanon in 2006. I think the tank wasn't built for offensive tactics it is purely defensive in an all-out war, thus the low mobility.

But strategically they didn't achieve their goal of hindering Hezbollah's rocket-launching capabilities which they failed, so they instead started bombing infrastructure and areas of civilians that are accounted for Hezbollah's influence. I don't support Hezbollah I'm just telling you what happened.

That was one sloppy useless video. You basically told nothing with a bunch of mismatched photos of the wrong tank. Also, there are 2 variants to mk iv and the entire outer shell of the tank is modular. So you missed a few highlights in there. As for speed it can travel faster than 70kmh but you don’t really do that if you want to keep your bones intact when you pull the brakes.

You wrote טנק מרכבה backwards. The Merkava MK-III was a great tank to drive. I don’t think anyone realizes how fast this beast can go, the speed had to be limited in the early development stages of the merkava , due to tanks flipping on sharp turns.

Fun fact: this tank is the main US MBT in the game Arma 3, where it is known as the "Slammer"

in the second lebanon war there were 7 merkava mk 4 tanks hit by an anti tank missile that can destroy any tank while only 2 were destroyed and others were partly damaged and their crews survived, that is the most superior reason that this tank was made for, its also excellent in battle ofcourse and is working perfectly with other forces conjoined. the only disadvantage is that the way of being built and systems are secret and cannot be sold to other countries

The ergonomics of the tank is amazingly well executed. I never thought about using the engine itself to supplement armor or having a rear escape hatch. Makes me wonder if they'll upgrade the Merkava or go to a brand new version.

This is not updates at all. The tank got today 1500hp not 600, and can reach 40mph not 28. Also got secondary weapons of 0.5cal, 40mm grenade launcher, 60 mm mortal. all systems managed from inside by computers. It's also the most protected tank in the world with the biggest survivability chances.

The picture you're using for Merkava III is actually a Leopard 2A4. It's clearly distinguishable from the shape of the hull.

3:09 those are not coaxial machine guns. the coaxial in inside the turret, coaxial to the main gun (that's why they call it that). the 12.7mm M2 on top of the gun is used for training, to simulate the main gun fire, with a friction of the cost of a real round.

isnt the gunner also in control of the 12.7mm machine gun,from what in know its remotely operated by the gunner and is mostly used in single fire mode to kill terrorists without wasting a tank round or causing much collateral damage.

@@shimonzozut7617 the 0.5 is also cooxial to the gun, so yes, the gunner (and also the commander) controls it. It was designed for training, to save the cost of a gun round (at first, the firing was done by the loader, who pulled a rope attached to the trigger, and latet on replaced by an electric machanism so that the gunner did the firing). In the early 2000's it was also used in combat, in places a 105/120mm round would make too much collateral damage and the cooxial machine gun is not accurate enough or wouldn't be effective. But the 0.5 is not as accurate as a real round. Not even when fired in single rounds

Need more research in your videos mate, look at Weapon Detective or Tank Encyclopedia for some comparison.

Hamas weren’t intimidated though. Tanks are generally obsolete in this day and age. You dont see countries building battleships anymore. Too slow and vulnerable. Battleships were basically giant floating tanks

Israel is amazing. Lets not get everything wrong here about Israel simply because of Palestine conflict. you should put more detail for engine and speed that belong to Merkava Mk.1, not for all Merkava variant

the main gun in mark 4 is 120mm not 105mm
