Unless they're Greek, North Indian, Iranian, Turkic, Arabic, Huns, or Scythians. The country was basically ruled by Greeks for most of the classical period and spent most of its history as a frontier for various Iranian empires before it was conquered by Turkic/Mongolian empires for nearly all of the medieval and modern period, ironically it mainly gained independence thanks to Russian and British imperialism and their squabbling made Afghanistan more valuable as a border state than a colony so neither of them tried too hard to secure it since Russia mainly just wanted to keep the British out of Central Asia and the British mainly just wanted to keep raiders and the Russians out of India but neither of them really wanted Afghanistan all that much.

Thank you for this detailed and informative video. All of these challenges to a foreign power trying to control Afghanistan should have been clear to the U.S. in 2001, based on Russia's experiences there in the 1980s. And yet we still went in and stayed there for 20 years, thinking in our arrogance that we could do better. As a nation, I hope we will learn from this folly and focus our efforts closer to home, where they are needed most. I blame both political parties for getting us into and keeping us involved in an unwinnable situation in an unconquerable country for far too many years.

On the contrary, the previous government under Ashraf Ghani was a proxy of the invading force (in this case the United States), and held little if any legitimacy among the people of Afghanistan. It collapsed because no one outside of Ghani’s inner circle of US-backed strongmen actually believed in their cause, least of all the rank and file soldiers who were directly fighting the Taliban. If anything the government dissolving before the Taliban even got a chance to negotiate with them only reinforces the legacy of Afghanistan being difficult for foreign occupiers to pacify.

To conquer a foreign land maybe an easy task however one must conquer hearts and mind to gain and maintain forever control. You can’t make friends if your intentions aren’t friendly and even if you do succeed in making friends while hiding bad intentions, it simply won’t last long. Using strength and force: even cage fighters boxing, wrestling etc.. you may win a match or two but to maintain championship you must remain forever in the ring and continue to win every single match or else you will kicked out and stripped off by some unexpected opponent or you retire l(escape). For every relationship diplomatic or civil, international or domestic the basic and fundamental ingredients are the same and as follows: mutual respect, honesty, fairness, compromise, independence, loyalty, faithfulness and mutual prosperity. Yes i understand it can only happen to take place in a perfect world and where leaders and policy influencers and makers are peace thinking and intellectual individuals! Unlike greedy self declared Pharaohs! 😬

@Sadek Sama The only reason Afghanistan is “impossible to conquer” is because these foreign countries arbitrarily artificially hold back their own military power, enabling and ensuring stalemate or “defeat”. It’s a joke to think there’s ANY other reason why Afghanistan is “impossible to conquer” other than the fact foreign militaries operate w/ the handicap of being run by modern western society/morality VS 8th century barbarians. *IF the US wanted to- Afghanistan would be conquered in months, weeks, or even days!* ..imagine if the US military actually engaged in warfare like all others did for most of human history, where NO FOREIGN MILITARY ever dreamed of holding back on an enemy or foreign land they decided to conquer just because they could.. no mercy.. every home & temple demolished.. every man, woman, child, & beast slaughtered.. every crop burned.. scorched earth.. -you know like the TALIBAN STILL operates! The FACT IS: no one is actually attempting to “conquer” Afghanistan, and instead are simply attempting to tame/civilize!.. which YES, has been proven time and time again- to be IMPOSSIBLE!

I hardly count the Taliban as conquering; if people have to choose between local political factions they despise, and foreigners who blow up weddings because they *looked suspicious*, people will generally go with their own countrymen. Maybe if we had *actually* tried to make Afghanistan a better country instead of making a shell puppet government and bombing civilians it would have been a different story. Frankly the taliban takeover wouldn't have been possible without us.

Taliban are not friendly to female gender and other such basic human rights are deemed necessary by them. Also Taliban although gaining control of their own country have still conquered it, because they aren't democratically elected. As the video also told, many of the old traditions are to be put back in place which tbh aren't viable in today's world. @@tushargupta1968 No worries. You're preaching to the choir; I've seen the horrors carried out by the taliban first hand. I will say however that since they posit that the election process (and the government that carries out that process) is illegitimate I don't know if that really counts as conquest. They see it as a liberation from the west, a conservative revolution and in their defense, with everything that's come since, the ANG does appear to infact largely be a puppet government. Today's taliban is radically different than the one in the 90's; most of the hardliners were killed by us or became more extreme and left for other organizations like ISIL. Hopefully this means that they will compromise with the more progressive Afghans, and create a lasting peace. At this point I am more concerned with the peace and prosperity of the Afghan people as a whole than with under which government that occurs.
