Why 75% of Russians Live West of This Line | Geopolitics| Geopolipedia
=============================================================
Russia is the largest country in the whole world! In terms of sheer size, no other country even comes close to the massive 17 million square kilometers it covers.
However, there is a line that divides Russia into two parts. This line greatly influences the way in which Russia’s population is divided. But what is this line and why does it exist? And why is the part of Russia to the East of the line so sparsely populated and less developed as compared to the Western part? Why 75% of Russians live west of this line. Well, watch the video to find out!

    I'm not sure I agree with your logic of counting all possessions, including faraway islands, but if true, there are plenty more countries that could be considered as covering more than one continent: the United States (Hawaii), Australia (various islands), New Zealand (various islands), Chile (Easter Island), Ecuador (Galapagos), Portugal (Azores), Netherlands (Caribbean islands) and Italy (Lampedusa). One might even extend this to Greece (various islands, e.g. Lesbos, Rhodes) and Yemen (Socotra). The only qualm I have with your list is Armenia. Although oftentimes thought of as culturally European, it is definitely in western Asia. I can see how parts of Azerbaijan and Georgia can fall into Europe, but Armenia is firmly in Asia.

    In general, the reasons are described correctly, but religion is an extremely secondary factor. In Russia, only for a small part of the population, religion has a special meaning, after all, 80 years of communism. An equally important factor not mentioned in the video is the insufficient funding of the modern Russian government of the Siberian regions. In the same USSR, the Siberian regions were actively developed and settled, thanks to this, at least 30 million live there now. Now Moscow is simply taking money from the regions. In Russia, people joke that there is Moscow and St. Petersburg and there is Russia

    Please review history before spreading misinformation to the world. If you have to talk about a country where indigenous people were brutally invaded and destroyed, then talk about the US... Indigenous people wre never as numerous as russians, and still up to this day local languages are actively spoken and learned in many russian regions.

    Now you are spreading misinformation like typical Russian. Indigenous people weren't as numerous as Russians, but still were brutally murdered and destroyed. Your country is guilt of many, many more genocides than the US so go to Russian propaganda channels to spread this bullshit. Just existence of Russia is the biggest tragedy in the history of all the countries which had "pleasure" to ever sharing borders with Russia.

    Not only this, but in the Soviet era particularly, settlements in Siberia were heavily subsidized by the government. The motive was primarily the need for resource extraction. Siberia is an internal colony of Russia, exploited for its resources but denied local industrial development of those resources. The economic structure persists today. Furthermore, as noted by Fiona Hill and co-author in their book "The Siberian Curse", Russia has chosen to develop true cities in the far north equipped with some of the amenities of the west (ballet theaters for example). The alternative, as practiced in the Australian outback, would be to fly workers on schedule in and out of Arctic mining and oil centers, housing their families in the hospitable areas of the nation. This is a very expensive process, for the climate-related reasons mentioned in the video. In conclusion, the population imbalance would be even more extreme had it not been for very expensive subsidization of Eastern and Northern settlement.

    1 Siberia is NOT an "internal colony", because it was never a country of its own and the first to ever occupy the land was russia and Siberia is and was always BARELY populated plus the local tribes were peaceful and they were assimilated into the Russian kingdom/empire PEACEFULLY, the russian empire asked them to join and they accepted, and 70% of siberia's population are russian/slavic . Its like calling texas or California internal territories lol (even tho they kinda are because they were taken by force) 2 what do you mean by " with some WESTERN amenities like ballet Theatre " Not you trying to cut off russia off the "west". The " west" is not a geographic term, it was first used by the greeks who saw themselves WESTERN TO thier neighbors or the persian / middle Eastern civilizations who saw the greeks an romans west to them. Then it grew to be an ideology to the entire of Europe which obviously includes russia which was heavily influenced by the Byzantines aka greeks (religious architecture cultural traits some words...) Up even with the mongol invasion, republic of Novgorod and duchy of moscovy which are the founders of Russia both obtained a system similar to that of many European neighbors like Teutonic order, sweden, Byzantium.... Up until the russian revolution in 1917 , russia was still seeing as part of the "west" while the usa WAS NOT .because of that revolution and the rise of the Soviet Union which had different ideas then lots of democratic capitalist western countries the devide starts to occur . Russia was and is European in every aspect except geography because its on 2 continents. And ballet is often described as "was born in italy, grew up in france and continued its life in Russia" so why are you trying to make seems like Russia was interested in ballet only in the last century when it was already big there in 1600-1700s

    This video committed so many erros, I don't even know where to start, but let's just point out some of the biggest + It includes Crimea and the South Kuril islands as part of Russia. + It claims that Russia is the only country in the world which is part of 2 continents. This is wrong and can be so easily disproved: ++ Türkiye and Kazakhstan are two famous countries also spanning both Europe and Asia just like Russia ++ Portugal is part of 3 continents (Europe, North America (Corco and Flores islands) and Africa (Madeira)). ++ Spain is part of 2 (Europe and Africa (Ceuta, Melilla, Plazas de Soberanía, Canary islands)) ++ Egypt is part of 2 (Afria and Asia (Sinai Peninsula)) ++ Australia is arguably part of 2 (Asia and Australasia/Oceania) ++ The US Is part of 2 (North America and Oceania) ("Oceania" does not always fit definitions of a "continent", so okay fair if you want to exclude it) ++ France is part of SIX continents (Europe, North America (St-Pierre-Miquelon), South America (Guyane), Africa (La Réunion, Mayote), and Oceania (New Caledonia, Wallis and Futuna, French Polynesia)) ++ The UK may be part of only 1 continent, or multiple, depending on how you look at their OTs. + It didn't point out that the most direct / geographical sucessor of Rus (more precise: KIevan Rus, which the video also didn't mention) is Ukraine. As the term Kievan Rus suggests, it was based in Kiev (Kyiv), modern day Ukraine.

    Very amateur. Even a huge deer population wouldn't make a European "choose to live there". Because to compensate the lack of veggies, you'd have to start eating organ meat like eyes, testicles, heart etc - ready to change your diet completely in your 30s just because you "chose to live there"? And don't forget that even deer's meat is not your deli beef steak - it's very tough and has an unpleasant smell. Totally puzzled by parts about 'living with the alike' and religion. Orthodoxy is widespread across the whole country. You don't need to be in the west to get easy access to all Christian infrastructure. And people of the east are not aliens - the majority are even the same Slavic - so what "the alike" means at all. The real reason is the REMOTENESS - long and expensive flights to your western relatives. But not living among someone specific - it actually sounds racist.
