The stone off could be set up as a point sort of event as opposed to a pure elimination event. The 5 stones could be worth a set number of points, say 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 points each. The event would continue as normal, but if 2nd place fails to lift a stone, 3rd would continue lifting to try to make up their point deficit. If 3rd place fails to complete enough lifts to surpass 2nd in overall points, then 2nd would still qualify for the finals. This would force all athletes to complete all events, because 2nd would want to maintain their point lead over 3rd, and it would make the stone off feel like 3rd really worked to re-earn their spot in the final.

I'm going to be the one and say I think Evan can win it all. He's a beast and seems to have his head straight this year. It may take a (slight) stumble from Mitch, Tom and/or Matt (nobody's perfect), but if Evan does what he can do, he's going to push the other guys hard.

Honestly dont think he has a chance of 1st. I seem him around 4/5th on the stones, conans wheel and the max axle. Mitch will be top 3 in every event with wins on the Axle and medley, also possibe wins on Conans and the deadlift.

Man I am torn. I want Evan to win for the states but seeing Mitch get back to back would be a treat, Tom getting his 3rd would be awesome and seeing Luke get his first would be spectacular. I love this sport! It’s going to be a battle!

If judges demand mitch to bring his head through, that will change the axle in my opinion. We can't have a repeat of Evan and Mitch's dumbbell from last year!

It is weird that they do a deadlift event in both heats and finals but no squat event at all. Also, the only overhead in the final is a really technical, awkward lift - never been a fan of the axle as it seems to result in too many injuries.

I can't decide between Hooper and Tom for first but I would bet they're top 2. Same for Ragg and Evan for 3&4. And I have Kordiyaka for 5th with Aivars close behind as 6th

Loz please can give your insight. Tom, Mitch and Evan are essentially going into the final having done 2 events less than many. How is that toll on the body. Seems to me it would be unsurmountable and the extra exhaustion will tell its toll during the last day without a doubt.

Once again, the groups and stone off setup makes it so clear there should be a best 3rd place system. Top two stone off losers on points should go through, or something to that effect. And poor old Bish. Such bad luck again. And Rauno finishing last in that group. So tough. From just missing out on a place in the finals due to coming up against Brian Shaw in the stone off last year to last place in a really tough group this year. Damn.

Hard to argue with the final 5 predictions to be fair. Great analysis. Got to rep the Brit so I'd like to see Tom bring it home again but I just can't see anybody beating Hooper with how he's performing so far this year. Imagine Tom had Mitchs brain and understanding of biomechanics. What an unstoppable force that'd be (similar to Shaw I'd say). PS. Love the shirt, Liz. 🤣

Instead of the Stone-Off I think they need a set of cards with 5 events e.g Deadlift, Hercules Hold, Farmers for distance; the contestant in 2nd can either veto the event and draw again (advantage for coming second) or go second knowing what score/time to beat. This would make the qualifying more interesting whist allowing an advantage for coming second.

I'll say best is nothing-off. 5 events in the heats, 1st 2 of each heat go to finals. If draw, the better on the last event goes.
