Hey Paul, I've been reading about Anaximander recently. He lived 610 - c. 546 BC and was an amazing scientist. I'm flabbergasted about what he imagined way back then.

I didn’t realise, but I needed that message today - no matter the chaos and unpredictably, the sun and stars will always be there and good times and the summer will return 😊.

Never underestimate our ancestors. They may not have had our tools and toys, but brain-wise… there likely was not much of a difference for several tens of thousands of years. Btw, I have an astrolabe sitting right behind me on my shelf. A beautiful piece of art, and at the same time an impressively precise instrument. Thank you for this video. Ad Astra. 🙂

Upon seeing a smartphone even a homo erectus might perhaps simply point to a nearby monolith and be all like "meh" for they have seen the sky and it is full of stars.

"Look out at the sky" REALLY??? It's so polluted out there that you'd need a James Webb to get a glimpse of stars

The earliest individuals on Earth to look up at the sky and observe the Sun and the Moon and the stars were our ancestors who lived about 300 million years ago. This was after the eye had evolved in the creatures who lived in the sea, and they crawled out of the sea and evolved a brain that could recognize objects in the sky. Those were the first astronomers, but they probably didn't try to write anything down though.
