"Where else would one want to spend one's time except in the presence of genius?" Still at awe with this phrase that puts words into the passion intellectuals have for knowledge. Amazing interview.

I read Why Socrates Died years ago -- and never imagined I would be able to hear the author speak at length and so engagingly about his life and ideas. Thank you so much.

This was excellent! I went and looked at the translations he does, so many to add to my reading queue. I really liked how he describes his approach to translating. I find translators like him to be so much more enjoyable to read.

Russell Gmerkin recently wrote an interesting book on Plato's Timaeus where he suspects it was used in Genesis 1-2-3, giving a much later date for the writing of the Torah, possibly in Alexandria. It's fascinating, but a whole can of worms at the same time. ✌️

The older I get the more I appreciate Aristotle’s practicality and views on virtue through the “becoming” school of thought. Additionally, I’ve been getting back into physics and quantum physics in cosmology a bit and it puts in perspective just how wild Plato was with his ideas about light. He really blew the roof of the MF. If there’s an afterlife, I hope I can sit down for an espresso with Plato and Einstein to discuss the nature of light LMFAO

I wonder if Plato's monotheism helped endear Greek philosophy to Christianity.

Partly yes, partly he scared them, because they sensed how easily they could slipped very fully into (Neo)Platonism, to the point early church fathers actively tried to erase any trace of his ideas in their own texts.
