I love these unexpected collaborations! Props to Clapton for having the confidence to sing with Pavarotti. It's fun to see Pavarotti smiling and enjoying himself here too. I think we wrongly tend to expect that singers and musicians can only appreciate the type of music that they perform themselves. You have shown us many times that this is not the case, Fil, and I think collaborations like this bring that home as well.

Pavarotti admired and loved rock, jazz, pop, etc,,,, In the interview about his last tour when in Australia I read on youtube - can't remember the title - he admitted with a bit of jealousy that he wished the huge amount of creativity and artistry amongst the popular genres of music and he wished opera could have something similar

It’s almost like he’s singing in prayer asking for help, possibly over the loss of his son. And then Pavarotti’s voice is so moving as well. To see the joy on his face performing with Eric is also moving. The choir adds another beautiful dimension. Seeing all 3 performer on one song is stirring indeed.

This was a great collaboration. I’ve always been a Clapton fan since his Cream days. He does a fantastic job here just doing his music and doing it well. The guitar solo was premium Clapton. The best. I think Pavarotti enjoys these collaborations where he can sing a different genre than heavy opera. I am a always blown away with his voice. When he used to perform as part of The Three Tenors, his voice was always “bigger” than the other two. Not louder, just bigger. Amazing.

I really liked his solo career in the 1990s - a lot of blues. Luciano is really controlling his voice holding back on the strong vibrato and it works for this song.

IF THAT WASN'T A TREAT! NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS DID I EVER EXPECT TO HEAR PAVARORATTI SING A "ROCK N ROLL" SONG! HE HAD AN AMAZING VOICE AND VOCAL RANGE. I DO HAVE TO SAY, AS WONDERFUL AND FANTASTIC AS HE WAS, ERIC CLAPTON HAS A MORE ROCK N ROLL VOICE, BUT HE KNOWS HOW TO HARMONIZE WITH THE SONGS. PAVARORATTI HAS BEEN A SUPER STAR FOR SO LONG I AM NOT SURE IF HE KNOWS HOW TO HARMONIZE WITH AN EQUAL MALE VOCALIST. ERIC GRACIOUSLY ALLOWED PAVARORATTI TO BE THE KING SO TO SPEAK. AT LEAST THAT WAS THE WAY I INTERPRETED THE STAGE PRESENCE. IT WAS REALLY A PHENOMENAL PERFORMANCE AND NOT ONE TO MISS IF GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY. I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO BEEN A SPECTATOR AND I'M NOT A NUMBER ONE FAN OF EITHER, BUT WHAT A SHOW! HERE COMES THE COLOR COMMENTATOR IN ME AGAIN. PAVARORATTI, NOT A MAN TO WASTE A GREAT MEAL OR BITS OF IT OR DRINK, HAPPENED TO BE DINING WITH PRINCESS DIANA. HE WAS SEATED NEXT TO HER. THEY WERE ENJOYING EACH OTHER'S CONVERSATION WHEN HE NOTED SHE LEFT TWO SHRIMP ON HER PLATE THAT SHE HADN'T TOUCHED IN A WHILE. HE PROCEEDED TO ASK HER, "ARE YOU GOING TO EAT THOSE?" SHE SAID, "NO." SO, HE SO BOLDLY ASKED HER, "WELL... "SINCE YOU ARE FINISHED AND AREN'T GOING TO EAT THEM, WOULD YOU MIND IF I HAD THEM, THEY ARE DELICIOUS AND I HATE WASTE. SHE DIDN'T MIND OR SAID SHE DIDN'T MIND. "HE ATE THEM! 😂❤😂😅😊❤! ISN'T THAT FUNNY?!!!

Brilliant stuff. Eric's guitar playing always gets me. Just beautiful. How about you analyse Sam cooke singing Tennesee Waltz live at the Copa in 1964? I'm sure you'll agree it's an amazing live vocal performance. Just a few months before he was shot dead. P.s There is no footage of his concert at the Copa but that doesn't matter. He did a version on a T.V show I think in 1963 but its not half as good as the Copa one. You'll see what I mean. The band and everything. It's sublime.
