Eric's voice is so emotionally captivating. So beautiful.😥 The addition of Pavarotti just stunning. Then the instruments and the duet and then the choir. Out of this world. Amazing. Great reaction Harri. Thanks David and Harri. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

This song was written in memory of Richard Manuel, the soulful piano player of the group "The Band". Manuel had recently committed suicide while on the road with the Band. Clapton was a friend of Richard's. Now listen to the lyrics again. Richard wanting to be safe within the arms of our Holy Mother. The tune originally appeared on Eric's album August, and that version of the tune is my favorite.

Thanks for the background, I'd never heard this before and I'm glad someone, especially with Clapton's prominence gave voice to his and our feelings at the loss of such a beautiful soul and music-maker. His impassioned blues lines bring home this sense of deep sadness and sorrow, and hope of succor, salvation on another plane, maybe for his departed friend. 8''>)

@@davebzen795 I was just reading where Eric came up to Woodstock, NY to audition for the Band. That didn't work out but he formed lasting friendships with the members. Here's a quote from a Clapton webpage, Eric says, "I was madly in love with Richard... At the time, [1975] we had the same troubles. I felt insecure and he was clearly insecure, and yet he was so incredibly gifted....For me he [Richard] was the true light of the Band. The other guys were fantastic talents, of course, but there was something of the holy madman about Richard. He was raw. When he sang in that high falsetto the hair on my neck would stand on end. Not many people can do that." --Eric Clapton

ERIC is a survivor! He lived everything! Everybody can identified to him! The man was called GOD! Then, a young black Cherokee american man came, and desteoyed him! His name was Jimi HENDRIX! And, instead being jaleous of him, he became the best friend with Jimi Hendrix! Then Hendrix died! Clapton was destroyed! After, he felt in love with one of his best friend, called George Harrison, from the Beatles! After, he took Heroin, Alcohol, fought with all their demons, got a car crash, almost died, made overdoses of drugs, almost died..... And, later, lost his beloved son! Seriously, who could survive to so much terrible things? Personaly, i got a car crash, i felt in love with one of my friend's girlfriend, i took heroin, cocaine, but i never lost a kid! But, you can feel all what he lived, in his music, and his guitar is crying, you can feel it, when he's playing! A beautiful performance! Peace from France to everybody! ✌️👍🎸🇫🇷🌹
