Does The Phalanx CIWS (often spoken as "sea-wiz") is a gun-based close-in weapon system to defend military watercraft automatically against incoming threats such as aircraft, missiles, and small boats. Because of their distinctive barrel-shaped radome and their automated nature of operation, Phalanx CIWS units are sometimes nicknamed "R2-D2" after the droid from the Star Wars films.[9][10] History[edit] The Phalanx Close-In Weapons System (CIWS) was developed as the last line of automated weapons defense (terminal defense or point defense) against all incoming threats, including antiship missiles (AShMs or ASMs), aircraft including high-g and maneuvering sea-skimmers, and small boats. The first prototype system was offered to the U.S. Navy for evaluation on the destroyer leader USS King in 1973 and it was determined that further work was required to improve performance and reliability. Subsequently, the Phalanx Operational Suitability Model successfully completed its Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) on board the destroyer USS Bigelow in 1977.[2] The model exceeded operational maintenance, reliability, and availability specifications. Another evaluation successfully followed, and the weapon system was approved for production in 1978. Phalanx production started with orders for 23 USN and 14 foreign military systems. The first ship fully fitted out was the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea in 1980. The Navy began placing CIWS systems on non-combatant vessels in 1984. Design[edit] The basis of the system is the 20 mm M61 Vulcan Gatling gun autocannon, used by the United States military on various tactical aircraft since 1959, linked to a Ku band fire control radar system for acquiring and tracking targets. This proven system was combined with a purpose-made mounting, capable of fast elevation and traverse speeds, to track incoming targets. An entirely self-contained unit, the mounting houses the gun, an automated fire-control system and all other major components, enabling it to automatically search for, detect, track, engage, and confirm kills using its computer-controlled radar system. Owing to this self-contained nature, Phalanx is ideal for support ships, which lack integrated targeting systems and generally have limited sensors. I remember this, I was in my backyard and there are woods behind my backyard, so when I was in my backyard and a guy wearing a creepy clown mask but his clown suit was odd to me so I got my mom and she went out with a metal baseball bat. My mom warned the clown that she would hit him if he didn't leave and he just stood there, so she ran towards him with the bat and he ran away, he obviously had no weapon in his hand and I didn't sleep that night for sure. @@Truly_Sithari no he can absolutely still sue the 2nd amendment does guarentee the people the right to bear arms but doesn't give you the right to attack someone who isn't an immediate threat. You do know tasers, pepper spray, etc are considered less lethal weapons, plus you absolutely can cause permanent harm or kill someone. This is mostly seen within older folk or people with health issues that's why police often have to be careful using their tasers and pepper spray. What people don't understand and what I think should be taught even for less lethal weapons (especially less lethal because people have that same mindset like yourself that they think they can do no harm) using a weapon to harm someone who isn't an immediate threat can still either land you in jail or the victim can sue for damages. That's why self defense is such a slippery slope. The story provided basically concludes while it was discovered AFTER that they guy had the intent to break in, it's the present moment that truely matters. What if it was just some guy playing a silly prank, boyfriend comes up and tases the guy without a word. The boyfriend was in no harm and decided to make the situation worse by taking the first strike, the boyfriend did not confront the man by asking what they are doing, instead he decided to shoot him in the back. With that in mind the boyfriend had no knowledge of if they were in danger or not. Which doesn't favor you in the eyes of the law. You might say, "what about castle doctrine?" well that only applies if your in an immediate danger anything else would consider you the aggressor and using excessive force. To cut it short you have to have something HAPPEN to you before you can claim self defense. Why do you think so many people get arrested who claim self defense. It sucks but that's just the way the law works.

As much as it was scary… those times I somehow look back on fondly. It brought me closer to some friends and, as I wasn’t a victim, I somehow enjoyed being scared

This happened to my flat. So basically me and my family (except from my dad) were chilling then a group of clowns WITH REAL KN1V3S. Knocked at our door and our dad came and knew what was happening so he started beating them up. And now no one messes with the flat that we live in.

It didn't happen.

This happened back when i was in elementary school. one day a group of kids found a red squeaky clown nose in the grass by our playground. no one dared step near that forest for years

If that was at my door he will be kidnapped instantly

I will never forget this, I was living in South Orange NJ at the time (Seton Hall student). The clowns tried to pull some shit in Weequahic Park in Newark, NJ, and scared some kids. Kids went home, told dads, Newark Newarked, no more clowns.

Interesting that I'm reminded of this situation because back in 2016 I had just moved from California to Missouri and one night in the middle of October I leave my apartment to go see this girl and as I'm walking through town I caught glimpses of three different people in clown costumes walking slowly just up the street from me. None of them saw me but I managed to keep myself out of their line of sight while I was walking and I couldn't help but feel a sense of fear as I did. I don't know what people were on back in 2016 but hopefully we don't have to deal with something like this again.

I got story. In 2016, i was waiting at home with my mom while my dad was out at work. It was around 7pm we were watching tv, my mom had just cooked some pizza, and we were having a good time. Then we heard a knock at the door so my mom went to go see who was there, but there was nobody, so she locked the door and we kept watching tv. Then there was another knock, then it became weird. My mom went outside to see who was there, again nobody. Until she screamed, there was a car i didnt recognise in our driveway, and 3 guys in clown costumes came out, i ran upstairs and called the police because they had bats, they were beating my mom amd i think they wanted to steal from us. The police came and arrested the guys, an ambulance took my mom and i called my dad to get home. The police told him what happened and apparently those 3 guys had killed somebody before coming to our house.

dude 2016.. it was scary. I remember encountering one oml. I was scared and ran because my bsf was around, so I ran to him crying about it, and then we went to his house since it was nearby.. I was so scared
