Actually, that's not entirely true. The term "Nation's Girl Group" was first coined by Gallup Korea, who originally bestowed it upon The Wonder Girls, who held it for one year. It was then given to SNSD who have owned it ever since.

As a South Korean, let me explain. BTS is objectively the biggest boyband now but they are never going to be bestowed the Nation's Boy Group title because it was meant for BIGBANG. This is why no matter how many popular girl groups are there, GIRLS GENERATION will always have that title. Titles with "Nation" on them can never be bestowed to another. Just like a country's national anthem, national food, national animal and so on. The KPOP industry wont even be the same without these two groups. I felt like the title "Nation"'s ___" is being used loosely to international fans now because they're not even Korean themselves to pick who is worthy for a "Nation" title. Give your groups ANY title you want, just leave to us the South Koreans the Nation title.

Actually I love both snsd and black pink but I do respect that girls generation will only hold nations girl group cause this is what Korean people bestowed already for them.,,although black pink,twice,red Velvet,2ne1,etc.,contributed a lot in Korean industry and also very popular in all over the world but they cannot just get what snsd hold until now..,I’m a foreigner and I understand this situation.

SNSD is. They did not receive the title for selling millions, they received it for their charisma, humility, singing and for having saved Korea from bankruptcy in 2009, Gee was the most popular song of the 2000s.

Im so proud that Girls Generation really live up for their name coz after them , Generation of Girls did their best to be at their best , its undeniable that new ones surpassed some of their records and for me they set standard that gave others to have an inspiration to reach out their dreams. GG is my Nations Girl Group coz because of them i fall for kpop , got inspired the girl power in an admirable way..simple as that.

IMO SNSD is the nation’s GG. They are the blueprint for what KPOP GGs are today, and their influence on KPOP is undeniable. SNSD (along with Red Velvet) are the only groups on the list that has members who are all Korean . I’m not denying the impact both Blackpink and Twice have, but how can one assume the title of “South Korea’s GG” if nearly half the members are foreign? SNSD has found success in SK not only as a group, but individually making their mark in the entertainment, fashion and music industry. The fact that SNSD a 2nd generation GG is still as popular as these other GGs in their 15th year speaks volumes to their talent, impact, and longevity in KPOP. Red Velvet, Twice, and Blackpink have definitely proven themselves dominant at home as well as abroad, and the titles they hold should rightfully reflect their contributions to the Hallyu movement.

They helped SM stand in their feet following BoA, textbook of many groups and inspiration because of their struggles and their hard way. Snsd was not supported much in korea, they even faced black ocean like bts and twice did in following years. There are still handful no. of things they created like korean beauty standards, center position, photocards etc. One of their remarkable achievements is highest rating in music show. GG said themselves their name is said to represent girls power and to inspire other ggs for coming generations You shouldnt talk about group activities If you're a blink. Bp rarely makes comeback and has very less activities done even in solo. SNSD has paved their way to what they are now. Taeyeon is one of the most famous soloist with many awards. Same goes to yoona, sooyoung seohyun and yuri. Hyo does dj while Tiff composes her own music. If you talk bout jessica, the former member she's fashion designer. Bp hiatus of like nearly 3 years broke the hiatus record of red velvet. CONGRATULATIONS

There's no need to question it. GIRLS' GENERATION/ SNSD IS the Nation's girl group.

That title was given to Girls' Generation. It's not something that can be passed on. Saying this as a veteran kpop fan.

Don't understand why there is even a debate. The title was literally created by Gallup Korea when SNSD topped their poll for Artist of the Year consecutively from 2009 to 2011, and topped the poll in 2010 in each of the different age group categories. The previous statement is not an opinion, it's a fact. Facts can't be debated. Until there exists another girl group that can achieve that, such a debate makes zero sense at all. SNSD is factually the one and only Nation's Girl Group.

As a reveluv, I'm always happy to see people talk about their performance in North Korea, but as a sone I'm always a little sad when people forget that the only other kpop idol who was at the concert was a SNSD member, Seohyun. Seohyun not only sang at the concert, she was the MC! A year before, she was also asked by the Blue House themselves , the day of, to perform with North Korean performers at a Winter Olympics event, for which she received a phone call from the president in which he thanked her.

GG is the only group to have ever been given this title officially so technically there's your answer. I think after the various scandals and lawsuits EXO has gone through, I highly doubt korea will ever honor again a group that isn't entirely korean (however wrong that may be).

In a way I agree with the video. But for me personally Girls Generation is the Nations Girl Group. I personally have been a fan of K-pop since 2007 because of them. Even when they went on Hiatus their fan base was and is still so loyal. In a way they remind me of Army. They could be gone for years and when they come back fans are super happy. GG only had one comeback but the fans never left. I explored other groups and even ventured into boy bands. Since here in the U.S it was mainly boy bands dominating the charts we had Britney Spears but GG was something different. Something I didn’t really see. But I am willing to consider Twice the nations girl group.

Well as far as the nations group? That's a biased question. Because all of those groups have amazing talent! But here is the thing.... Girls generation are a legendary music group because they forged new precedence in K-pop music. And so did 2ne1. They basically introduced a new music genre into kpop. And all of these newer groups just followed after. The only new group that I reduced a new music style in K-pop is dreamcatcher. With their Rick and roll style of kpop. But as I said all of those groups are very talented!!!!

SNSD is the NGG. Gallup made it for them and also those surveys says it all. Also, the guidelines on commenting in this video is to be respectful, however i always find this one particular username throwing hate comments towards other group.

three name cards of Korea: Samsung, Kimchi and Girls Generation. National Girl Group is a title made for them. No debate needed.

Twice is the only group I actively follow, but I agree with the other people in the comment section: SNSD are the only group who should hold this title. There are enough other words in the Korean language to describe and honor the legacy Twice themself has created, which means that fans will hopefully use a different title to uplift, and frankly brag about, Twice. In my opinion it's also much more of an accomplishment to receive your own and original title, instead of reusing one created for someone else. Kind of how it was a compliment for any young male (Black or Brown) artist to be called "the next Micheal Jackson" in the 2000s, when they most likely also wanted to be known as themselves individually. It's an honor, but nobody puts in the work to be known as "the next (...)", especially because (in our case) SNSD was the reason half of the Twice members were keen on becoming idols. P.S.: I also can't imagine how frustrating it is for SONEs to see other people undermine their idols' success and impact. I'm already sensing the same sentiments from other fandoms towards Twice and it is surely not something that makes me happy. It's a shame how kpop fans push "older", mostly female idols to "retire", just because they aren't teenagers anymore and passed their peak. I'm also very curious about the evolvement of 4th and maybe 5th gen. Whether there will be three defining girl groups and such things.

Snsd and Twice were the only girl groups to ever be given the title of Nations girl group. No one else has become that yet since. There are many popular girl groups in 4th gen but none have stood out like snsd or Twice yet

Twice were officially given the title by Korea after their success and is the representative girl group of third gen. The only girl groups to have ever been given this title by Korea has been girls generation and Twice. Twice are the best selling kpop girl group of all time and the most streamed girl group ever in Korea. Cheer up is the most streamed girl group song ever in Korea. Red velvet do not lead in any category. Even mamamoo has more streams than red velvet in Korea and Blackpink has more sales than them too. I can promise you now that no one has ever given red velvet that title or even considered them that. There will however most likely be a new nations girl group for 4th gen which will most likely be Newjeans, as they have had an extremely successful start to their career, similar to Twice. Twice have won 16 daesangs in their career and red velvet only have 4, even tho Twice debuted over a year after red velvet. Twice also has more music show wins (the most for any girl group ever). I’m telling you as someone who knows kpop the only official nations girl groups have been snsd and twice. Newjeans will most likely be the next one. Also having foreign members has nothing to do with if you’re the nations girl group or not. In case you didn’t know both Ive and Newjeans have non-Korean members you idiot 😂 Hanni is Vietnamese and Rei is Japanese.

QUEENS of Kpop was 2NE1. BlackPink had successfully inherited that title. NATION'S Girl Group will always be SNSD. The title itself can't be passed down or inherited, but the mantle is definitely worn successfully by TWICE. Even when GG members themselves want so much for Red Velvet to take the baton, GG themselves are content with Twice's work and accomolishments in the industry. Also, IF we even could, i would definitely vote to have Twice inherit the Nation's Girl Group title (from a biased SONCE's POV) This is a great video, btw.

Hello, i as a once (and way to be sone) feel since the title was made originally for SNSD, and they're achivements are important, helping Korea economicly and manage to diversify and keep on making hits and being standarts to this day, i feel Twice is a good one to be on line, they have proven being dominant domesticaly and are achiving things abroad, starting slow to diversify, i think we see as they grow, as the generations go by and since to both the title was given by Korea as well, both are representative of their eras, and today a 4th gen group haven't reach that title but we will see, i would like to think of the nations girl group like a line, but once the title is given to a group can't be passed, and the grow or legacy of one doesn't cancell the importance of the other (which Is the case for both) 1.SNSD originally 2.Twice and but this is up to Korea. I think if Twice had a different title would be "multi nations girl group", or "sister nations girl group" and BP "breakthru girl group", and RV "nations pride", but again that's up to Korea.
