Knew a guy who, when I met him, had been an Air Force Load Master. But everything he saw in a movie or video game he added to his ever-growing list of accomplishments. In the end, he was a sniper and assassin who had traveled on foot across Africa to take out his target, was a Special Forces operative, and not only was fighting the War on Terror before 9/11, but somehow held a high security clearance and was constantly on call to be deployed at any time for special missions despite being discharged over a decade before. The breaking point for me was when our mutual friend was celebrating his birthday at the same time the Boston Marathon Bombing happened; sniper/assassin was the only one to not show up, claiming that he had been notified that he would be needed in Boston ASAP to assist in the operation. When my buddy checked on him later he was just hanging out at home.

I had a friend who was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. As is unfortunately common among people with this kind of disorder, he struggled to take his medication. He had many delusions, including a falsified romantic relationship between us. This led to mild stalking behavior (nothing super scary or dangerous) until I moved states (move unrelated to him). I hope that he has the support he needs to live a fulfilling life.

I was hospitalized after an unalive attempt (don't ever be afraid to ask for help if you're in that same situation!! I'm living proof it gets better!!) and a fellow of 60 there told me all about how _Dr. Who_ was about him after the writers spied on his life for years and how he "married" Taylor Swift when she made fleeting eye contact w/him at her concert. All the media coverage about her was to divert attention from him, and they were planning on starting their family. It was weird at first, but as I realized he believed everything...fck schizophrenia.

In the 80's my girlfriend (who was 19 at the time) lived in an apartment above a man name Charlie in his 70's. Charlie was constantly hitting on her. I ended up going to his apartment many times to help him with stuff. He insisted he was a Beatnik. Nevermind the fact that beats never called themselves beatniks, and hadn't existed for 30 years. He listened to old jazz records all day long, but didn't know anything about jazz. He would buy any random record by some unknown musician in the jazz section and think it was some sort of classic. He had written a short story that had been rejected by every magazin on earth and it was a real shame because it was a great story and would really change people's lives if they ever read it. He described it this way: "It's a Christmas story about a little blind boy and a little blind girl." He was working on a new story which would be "An Easter story about a little deaf boy and little deaf girl."

A good friend of mine thought she was the secret crush of this pretty well known indie singer in our country that keeps hinting his interest in her through his instagram posts, stories, and songs. She goes on about how his captions/lyrics has always corresponds to what she's feeling, hinting at her appearance, that his song has her voice message in it (yes, she did send her VM but the song itself has countless VMs from his fans and I didn't know if I even heard her message being played) and so on. One time she even told me that *she thinks* one of his song was especially made for her, and I just laugh thinking it was a joke. But I noticed that this girl was not right in her head because normally if you have a crush on someone, you would at least have had a small conversation with them and/or some private interaction, right? Well, this girl had never even got any DM or anything from him and she was left unread by him (again, he's a pretty big name in the industry and my friend is just an average college girl with a strict religious background that already worlds apart from the guy's life). The turning point of this long train of delusion is when the guy has had a collaboration with this one female singer and as any musician do, posts their picture together to promote it. All hell breaks loose as she texted me in the middle of the night telling how she's back to her lowest point in love because of him, and that the female singer has become close to his mother (again, the only 'interaction' is through her looking at their instagram posts). At that time I said enough is enough and I blatantly told her that if there has been no one-on-one interaction between guy and her, then this whole crush thing was never a thing since the beginning. Heck, I even told her that he probably didn't know she even exists in this world. Friend finally snapped out of it after our other friends told her the exact same thing about her delusion towards him.

I'm shocked how often people have this assumption/delusion of OTHER PEOPLE having a crush on them. Not like they don't want to admit their crush and so defensively go "I don't have a crush, it's the other way around!" Nah. People legit stess themselves out thinking other people are obsessed with them and get a surprise Pikachu face when it turns out that person couldn't care less.

Probably the immortal guy who declared he had be crowned king of kings in the secret catacombs of a restaurant that had never opened in a Midwest town. Virgin Mary reincarnated as a child guided him through the catacombs to meet with Jesus, Saddam Hussain and a 10 year old boy who were all reincarnated god like him. They gave him a ring of power to control the hearts and minds of men but he will never use it until the apocalypse comes. He also made it through the ice wall and fathered 4 children one to each of the 4 races that live beyond flat Earth's ice wall (he found a door when he went for a walk). He can see the statue of liberty with binoculars from his house in South Dakota so that proves the earth is flat. No he can't show you because you'd just lie. It keeps going.

A former friend of mine became incredibly radicalized when the George Floyd protests began. Like, she straight up dropped everything and focused all her attention on this, even pulling the "with me or against me" card on me when I tried calling her out. A textbook definition of an extremist. The worst to me was when she tried to counter a point I made by linking me an article to what is very clearly a satirical wiki site (Liberapedia, I think?). Later on, she would ban me from her Discord server for sharing artwork of a police officer character I liked, not at all trying to make a statement, just wanted to share some art I really liked. Even the mod who had to ban me thought it was BS. I've cut ties with her since, and it's for the best.

Probably this dude I met once or twice that used to live in an apartment a couple doors down from mine. This was years ago but I remember him clearly because he was so strange. He went by the name Miami, and I’m not sure if that was his given name or a nickname, but that’s the only one I ever heard anyone call him by. He definitely had OCD. I would always know when he came home from work because he would get out of his car, then open and close the driver side door forcefully about 10-16 times or so and then check the locks. Then check them again five or six times. I don’t remember the exact numbers but it was obsessive as hell. Then he would go up the stairs to his apartment door and do basically the exact same process with that one too. A couple of times he showed up to parties I was also attending. That’s how I learned that the man uses Listerine instead of water in his, ahem, tobacco water pipe. He says it’s because he likes the minty taste, it blunts a lot of the sting, and it kills any bacteria in the pipe. I think the reasoning is mostly sound except for the fact you’re breathing in straight menthol and who knows what else in concentrations that might be pretty bad to inhale deeply. I’m sure that rabbit hole went deeper, but I intentionally avoided the guy. Seemed like he was in a bad place and kind of unstable. Not sure what happened to him after I moved out, I hope he got help. I really should have done something to help him.

Some of these stories are straight-up disorders, but many others suggest they're rooted primarily in social class and ignorance regarding responsibility. While it is sorrowful observing cases of those whose broken minds never allowed them a chance, this mingles with frustration for those whose selfishness numb their minds to understand or atrophies their capabilities to act. They're different forms of torture from the same struggle with identity, perhaps. Not to promote stereotyping, but sometimes one must evaluate _what_ someone is before considering _who_ someone is, because the _what_ might be the ruling forces driving their behaviors and mentality to dictate who they are. Always have compassion to give gracious help, but limit trust in those who are limited to being _what_ they are. Such persons are a liability waiting, consciously or not, for a ripening opportunity to exploit you.

Obviously, we didn't go, and he grumbled about it for a few months afterward. I'm convinced at the time, he would watch movies and think that was how life was SUPPOSED to be. TW: blood. An old coworker had, not zero first aid knowledge, but was severely lacking in them. He had an engineering degree, so he was by no means stupid, but his first day on the job he didn't understand the cut away from yourself with the razor sharp blade rule and sliced his hand open. Here's where the first aid comes into play. He understood that he needed to wash the wound so it wouldn't get infected, but he didn't understand why he needed to put pressure on it, or a bandaid. He stood at the sink opening and closing the wound on his hand from washing it, watching as more and more blood leaked out of it until he passed out from blood loss. A small, manageable, cut landed him a trip to the ER and a blood transfusion. He also struggled with car maintenance. We had to teach him how to check the dipstick to see if he needed an oil change, and tell him that you have to drain the old oil out before you put the new oil in. He had been pouring new oil in since he bought his car. People who didn't hear his stories remember him for being an engineer, I remember him for all the almost heart attacks I got listening to him try to explain simple every day things.

I remember once he called me and told me weird shit about how he was gonna die because someone was following him and allegedly he said something to his GF that "got her killed" when she actually passed away from a seizure. Then went on about the government watching our phones and the KGB. Apparently someone in the drive thru is a spy and is trying to check us out? I have no freaking idea. I kinda drowned it out because it was the butt crack of dawn and I got no sleep that night. He has autism but I have a weird feeling he was doing some shit way before I met him. I mean he's a nice dude but still he concerns me.

My mother believes her Great Aunt was a witch. Like an actual witch. That she could take pain and ailments from people, or make things happen to them. One story she loves to tell is that this woman took a poultice of herbs and wrapped it around a man's abdomen. He had bowel cancer and the doctors said he was going to need surgery. A week later, he came back and the poultice was rancid and black and when the guy went back to the doctor, they couldn't find he cancer. Or another story that this woman kept bees, and when my mom was a kid, the queen of one of the hives died. So she took my mom to another part of the state to get a new queen. She rubbed her hand in her armpit and held the hand out and a bee flew into the hand, and then she spit chewing tobacco on the bee and put it in a jar and that bee became the new hive queen. The thing is, my mom was the youngest of her siblings, two of them were already having kids by the time she was born. According to them, that great aunt never had bees that they knew of, and mom was maybe 3 when the woman died. She cooked and baked for the local church and in turn the community kept her house in order and brought her what all they wanted made. She very rarely went anywhere other than her house and that church because somebody had to take her places.

@@erinnichols4866 Ive never been a particularly strong believer in it, but I dont really have anything against people that are. its just not my business. my issue is with the idea that she knew anything about a woman that died before she was toilet trained, beyond stories shared by other family members. and all of them that I've met and asked about it agreed that shes full of shit about these stories about this great aunt. as far away as that woman lived from them, mom would have seen probably only met her once or twice on christmas and/or easter according to the people that had a chance to actually get to know her, she lived alone after her husband passed with her dogs and her chickens and baked and sewed a lot to pass her time. this was the bible belt in the 50s, I think *_she_* wouldnt have been very witchcraft friendly.

My cousin. She does stupid sh!t regularly. She hitchhiked a ride from an unknown person at 10pm to come see me and my girlfriend even tho we told her we wanted to be alone. (Our country is relatively safe but I think that not a good idea no matter where you live) She lost her virginity to her then-boyfriend at 13. Without protection. Denied she could get pregnant or any other issues because “they didn’t do it that long” After she lost her virginity she’s had regular flings (mind you she was 13 she’s now 16) with random older dudes (around 15-18+) when we try to tell her that it’s dangerous and these dudes are up to no good she denies everything saying “she knows them better” (even tho she may have met them a couple days/ a week prior) She’s been smoking daily since she was 13 and she gets either drunk or high every weekend. She implied I should forgive my abuser because “she forgave hers” (context: we both had alcoholic father figures but while she didn’t have to see her dad more than couple times a year I had to see my then-stepdad nearly every month. Not to mention her dad is now sober, mine is still as alcoholic and abusive as back then.) Once she tried to flex on her friends by riding her motorbike, drunk, without her license. My stepdad and mom put a stop to that because her parents don’t care. She refused help because in her words “i dont need help because I’m not a re****” I took that personally because she said it after my recommendation. I’m not on terms with her for obvious reasons. It’s pretty much by dumb luck that she’s alive today. I’m not blaming anyone if you don’t believe these because wtf? But all of these instances are on some form of records. I have a way lot more stories about her and her shenanigans..

The delusional one was me, growing up I always had to be the center of attention, classic kid stuff just cranked up to 11. I would lie about everything, or at least try to since all my lies had some sort of weird fantastical twist or plot. I would make stuff up to see people's reactions, even went through an entire phase where I legitimately thought i was Link from The Legend of zelda 😅I would run around with pot lids and anything that vaguely looked like a sword and make the sound effects from the games with my mouth. Every week, every month would be some weird new fantasy. Though life has a way of smashing your face in with reality, at least for some people, after some rather serious personal events i just kinda clicked over night, though not all as lost as i was able to take up creative writing as a hobby, and now have the freedom to be as weird and goofy as i wanna be. Sometimes though i wish I could see the world through the eyes of my old child self...

My crazy neighbor had a blow up sex doll as his girlfriend. He would take her for rides in his truck, watch tv with her and, more worrying, have knock down drag out fights and arguments with her. He also thought people were landing airplanes in his grain fields. He set huge bear traps to catch the trespassers. When he told me about the traps I called the RCMP and they went in and removed the traps. He died when his old house caught fire.

I had a neighbor girl who was incredibly sheltered and maladapted to not only the "real world" but reality itself. I never knew the extent of it until she told me she had a dream about a guy in her class and asked me "what do you think it means to him?" I thought she was asking me to interpret her dream or had told him about it but nope! She hadn't asked him, nor think he caused her dream, or "not intentionally." She was interpreting her dream as another form of reality, but acknowledged that dreams are affected by our waking life so, naturally, this meant he had feelings for her. You read that right. The guy wasn't even doing anything in her dream, he was just in the background but she thought this meant he was obsessed with her and she didn't know whether to reject his "confession" or not. There was another time when another friend who had moved out came over to visit and Neighbor Girl, after just meeting them, thought it appropriate to show a picture of a dead girl. Yeah. She wasn't trying to be "edgy" or anything. She was just scrolling on her phone, gasped, and immediately shoved her phone in our face and was like "Look! This is on my feed right now! How could someone post this??" with ZERO self-awareness. I wonder how she's doing sometimes

Then he was a politician (he was the candidate in a 5th-tier political party once) he remained a "politician" for another couple of years before he eventually was committed to a mental institution. This would be a story of pity if the guy wasn't such an insufferable prick the entire time. The dude would hang out at the Starbucks inside the university he dropped out of for like 10 hours a week wearing a scarf and trying to impress 19-year-old first years well into his 30s. Of the 8 years, I knew him I think he worked a grand total of 1 part-time job for maybe 3 months. Moaned about the working class not supporting his art and inflicting poverty on his tortured indigo mind.

My father, my ex stepfather. I could spent many examples, but you’re just two, one from each. My father, I have a rare, genetic condition that, those scientist know a very great deal about it even though the Jean was not isolated until 2002 and the syndrome been recognized since roughly 1946/1948, there has been no cure for it, yet. Every single time I go to a medical appointment with any of my specialist Dad thinks it somehow, miraculously, suddenly find a cure. He also wants me to be treated like some special anomaly, I don’t feel all that special. I’m just doing what I can with what I’ve been dealt. My stepfather is the more generic version of delusional, thought he was OK to drive to go and get pizza when he was so drunk, if I had walked in the room, I could’ve probably smelled it on him. Was also acting like an overgrown toddler, but that’s the story for another day. Also, I will not eat a dish called chicken divan. My mother has more stories.

Yes, alot of women do abusive shit post-breakup but I feel like women more often go for vindictive revenge, whereas men will literally break into their ex-girlfriends homes and still think they're the ones who are victims in the situation, because the possessiveness and entitlement is so baked in. Please teach your kids who are old enough or almost old enough to date that when someone dumps them [or rejects them], that's it. My daughter 😢 one night as I sat with her older brother ( she was 15 he was 18 ) there was a serious knock on the door late at night. I was so scared I had my 6’4” son answer it. It was the police ! They asked if my daughter N was home and I said ‘ yes she’s in her room ‘ but they stopped me to advise they had her in the back of the police car! When I told them to bring her in they refused saying she was 15 and could do what she likes and wanted to go home with her boyfriends mother who was currently in the police car with her! Wtf. ( had never met the woman but had heard she dealt drugs ) my daughter alleged I had just walked into her room and punched her in the jaw ( never happened ) my son who had been in the room with me since N had gone to bed ( & clearly sneaked out ) witnessed I had never left the room. I could hear N wailing in the back of the police car. They left with her. She came home high as a kite and got some clothes but eventually came home day 3 still adamant I’d hit her. As a small town put her on a plane back to her father. A doctor visit with me confirmed she needed a psychiatrist but once she arrived her dad wouldn’t allow treatment! She is now 31 and I visited her for the birth of her first baby. I’m very wary of her and ensure I’m never left alone with her. Unfortunately for the first time in 15 years we were alone together: we had a discussion which led with her regurgitating my break up with her father 28 years ago ???? I didn’t think much about it. It wasn’t a pleasant encounter but thought’ I’m going home in a few days ‘ - 3 months later over the phone she asked when I was going to apologise and I had to ask what for? Seems apparently, I attacked her and I spat in her face. ( none of that happened either ) when I very delicately tried to say that it never happened, she screamed “ I’m sick of everyone, telling me on delusional. “ and hung up 😮
