What I find so much more interesting is that canonically, he’s the first experimented animal with the Vortex. In the opening cutscene of Crash 1, Cortex specifically says “Failure again!” suggesting this happened before. Also in that cutscene are the cells. All of them have eyes looking through them, except the kangaroo. Here’s what I think: Before Crash was picked, a kangaroo was the first experiment with the Vortex, but because of how the “cause of past failures” (said by N. Brio in the same cutscene), Ripper Roo was mutated beyond what he was originally, and he had become insane and extremely unpredictible. He escaped, and Cortex moved on to Crash. The pattern throughout the first game’s bosses are interesting. Papu Papu doesn’t work for Cortex, and he’s simply angry at Crash for waking him up. Ripper Roo doesn’t either, as he’s on his own in up in the waterfall. Crash is more calmer, but still lacking of intelligence. Koala Kong was a step up, and finally, Pinstripe was the most successful out of all of the previoud bosses.

Yeah I really like that theory

I learned from this video that 'Ripper' is an australian slang, and it may indeed have something to do with why he was called Ripper Roo. But have you considered that maybe 'Ripper' could be a reference to something else? He wears a straight jacket, but he's quite adept at causing destruction regardless. I might be overreaching here but I think they put the jacket on him specifically to keep his arms restrained. Kangaroos have strong, sharp claws on their hands and feet, capable of disemboweling anyone foolish enough to pick a fight with it. So Roos in the wild are quite dangerous, but what about a Mutated, Psychotic Kangaroo? Add even though his potentially deadly claws are barred from usage, he still has the curious ability to materialize explosives when he hops about. Can you imagine how dangerous Ripper Roo could be if he was unbound? Quite scary to think about.

The reason why he's blue and insane is because if you look at his bandipedia page it says he was zapped at least thrice by the evolvo ray first mutating him then turning his fur blue and lastly making him insane

Ripper Roo is my favorite Crash Bandicoot character. I like how insane he is, also the fact that he made something out of himself. He became a Govoner. That is a real achievement. Good job Mr.Roo Good Job.

In Crash 2 you see Ripper Roo STUDYING to become a Doctor, wearing an outfit of what he aspires to be, but as you clearly see in the fight, and through his costumes he is still deranged, maniacal and deluded. Honestly, this was a wonderfully made video and I honestly didn't expect it to have correct details, considering the plethora of badly made Crash Bandicoot videos that had been created since N. Sane. Subscribed.

I presume the Vortex has some rules for it's functions. Possibly simulating eons of evolving in certain conditions? What kind of twisted world could make Ripper Roo natural?

Ripper Roo is a very sophisticated man

He's always been my favorite though ♡

Amen on Crash Bash. It's poorly made, but the ridiculous difficulty if anything is what makes me keep coming back to it.

Well, after going through intense therapy for 8 years Ripper Roo would be 100% sane, however in Crash 2 he see him go back and forth on being crazy, so maybe he wasn't done with his therapy yet

I never thought Ripper Roo was a kangaroo. It’s bc his name is at the top left of the screen in the boss fight.

To paraphrase something from BlackMage Benjamin, Ripper Roo's design in Crash 2 gave him a sort of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde style split personality.

On the ‘El Pogo Loco’ comment it is not the American restaurant it is referring to but the translation of El Pollo Loco to The Crazy Chicken so therefore this is The Crazy Pogo as in pogo stick

"Some people also considered his crazy laugh to be a sign that he could possibly be a hyena." They *did* take his laugh from the hyena from Disney's Lady and the Tramp.

He was apparently supposed to have a bigger role in Crash 4 but was cut and reduced to only a cameo

I know he got a doctorate degree 8 yrs after crash bandicoot 1 but what if he was studying for his doctorate in crash bandicoot 2 Its just a theory

Before I ever watched this, I know who thing about Ripper Roo. That he's an extremely, annoying, tough boss battle. I used to play Crash Bandicoot 1 part of the N-Sane Trilogy for the Switch and he's tough in my opinion. So I quit playing it for a while, but now I might try again.

Hello there! I just wanna say I absolutely LOVE all you Crash-related videos! Especially this one, since Ripper Roo's one of my favorite characters. (he could also have a very interesting back-story, like being a completely different character, before the whole Cortex-Vortex fiasco, but that's just my idea for a fanfic...) Anyway, could you make a video about the existance of Power Crystals and the theory behind them? I mean, we've seen them as collectibles many times, but what's the story behind their magical power source? Maybe Uka Uka and Aku Aku have something to do with them too? It would be nice to finally see somebody analyze this subject!

I have a theory about Ripper Roo: in future games including Crash 4, Dr. Roo (the more behaved and British version of him) appears, completely different from the Ripper Roo we know. It always made me ask "Hey, how did that super crazy Ripper Roo disappear and this smarter Dr. Roo is in his place now?"; the answer i found is that Ripper Roo has a dual personality. I believe that Ripper Roo is the original, the one that was exposed to the Cortex Vortex very intensively - and because it was the first test of the Cortex Vortex, perhaps Nitrus Brio ran this experiment further and made Ripper Roo a super animal. intelligent at first, but with the adverse effect of his bluish skin and his obsession with explosives, an explosion that, little by little, drove him more and more crazy, to the point of making him 99% inconsequential in his actions, but still with 1% consciousness at times when he "talks" (laughs, in this case). He must have suffered a very big trauma, like losing his family, and this trauma must have led to Dr. Roo, change the one he now commands... the only problem is that he can't be exposed to explosions, as that would make Ripper Roo come back

N. Tropy was unlockable in CTR, that was his first appearance

El Pogo Loco is just Spanish for The Crazy Pogo. With Ripper Roo around, that makes sense, though I wonder why they chose to name it in Spanish.

to be fair, i've also never seen an Orange Bandicoot, and we should remember there were two machines involved in cortex plan in the first game. the First machine would be N-Brio's evolvo-ray i guess it was called, the second was the Cortex Vortex. My guess is that the procedure was the following: First grab an unevolved animal, apply the ray, and then put it into the vortex to make sure it's brainwashed into obeying cortex. in the intro of crash 1, brio warns cortex that they haven't found the cause for 'Past Failures' and when crash was placed into the vortex he was already mutated and therefore more orange than the usual bandicoot. some sources say that Ripper roo was the very first experiment of the cortex vortex, so my guess is, cortex caught a simple kangaroo, evolved it, with the side effect of it turning blue, placed it in the vortex, HUGE failure ensures, and Roo is now absolutely bonkers with the rare moment of sanity shining trough.

Easy explanation for the 8-year 1-year thing. He was studying in Crash 2. Hence why he was reading the books in the cutscene. He studied while he wasn’t in therapy.

It's simple, he was a normal Roo and he got turned into a Pyromanic (Tnt and Nitro) his blue tint is because he's skin was Blasted to insanity, his straight jacket is beacuse he's Obviously insane and same with the laughter, how he got a degree is Beyond my knowing

maybe Ripper in crash 2 is only just starting to get better, which is why he's still in the straight jacket, 7 years after crash 2 would be when he earns his doctorate

I’d like to explain the underwater base as just him being crazy and spending money recklessly,I mean sure he’s got a doctorate and stuff but given how he goes bonkers just at the sight of Crash in Crash 2 I’m sure he’s still pretty crazy

The reason why he's always around water is because the sound of water probably suits him like a waterfall sound machine if you're that wound up tight always was trying to relax

If you've ever looked you will see ripper roo doesn't fold his arm but is actually always in a straight jacket meaning cortex probably put him in that hinting he was an experiment went wrong it's likely his fur was dyed blue and in crash team racing he does say himself he's crazy meaning it's likely he could be mentally damaged after all the things that have happened of course the straight jacket is mentioned in this video but to look into that further would take a lot of information from somebody who knew the games all really well roo's tubes is a race in crash team racing but is also where the race between the player and ripper roo takes place where he chokes a key out if you beat him also saying you better get your head checked if you think you could beat oxide hinting he can be normal when he wants to but everything he says always starts with him laughing then talking meaning he is a little crazy all the time probably due to all the twisted things he has been through although most people wouldn't really understand this having a mum who deals with mental illnesses I've come to understand it and there will definitely be others out there who are familiar with this but anybody would notice the signs of some mental damage to ripper roo and in the end kangaroos (if he actually is one) don't rip things because they don't have hands to do it and they can't use their feet meaning he got that name ripper from somewhere else and if you race against him as tiny tiger you will notice some of the TNT he shoots at you is aimed up as if he's trying to aim for tiny's head

Kangaroos use the water as a refuge and vantage point when facing enemies irl. For example, they have an infamous tendency to attempt to drown dogs that follow them into the water.

I can explain contradiction about years. When you just saving Tawna from castle, it's not canon ending. True ending is that when you fight Cortex, and we don't know for sure what's happening with characters afterwards. In second game Ripper Roo still maniac, but without his "mentor" (a-ha-ha) he slightly changed to best direction. It's just my theory though :)

Well, we do get to play as Ripper Roo in the CTR remake!

According to the PS1 manual of the original Crash Bandicoot, Ripper Roo's name refers to his razor sharp foot claws, which can rip foes apart. Guess the straitjacket isn't doing much, then. Why would it when a Kangaroo's legs are more deadly than his tucked arms? He also has a fetish for explosives.

Ripper roo is a particular boss and also my favorite I think the reason is that he is crazy and funnier than the other characters, But a little is known about his origins. Talking about ripper roo's skin there is a type of kangaroo that is red and in some cases blue, and about the therapy could it be possible that in crash bandicoot 2 he was still taking therapy and that's why the crazy him stills there?
