Who is Melchizedek? - Daily Bible Reading - Hebrews 7

Branch Together helps you kick start the life-changing habit of Bible reading. As Christians, we are called to "branch out" and reach the world around us, but first we must come "together" and develop habits that prepare us for a life on mission. Some people might call this Daily Devotions, or Quiet Time, whatever you call it, it is a life changing habit.
Readings are from the New English Translation (NET) and read by the pastors of Branch Church and First Baptist Church, Red Bank, NJ.
Consider reading the chapter again in another another translation, here: lumina.bible.org/bible/Hebrew+7

@@BranchTogether If you will permit me I will reveal to you about Melchizedek Priest of Salem. The fact that Melchizedek brought out bread and wine identifies who Melchizedek actually was and is. This corresponds with the Son of the Most High God being the blood of the covenant poured out for those who knew Him and came to know Him as written in Matt. 26:28. The reason Yehoshua was Melchizedek in covenant to save by his shed blood is that he is destined to come again in the priesthood linage. You and all others say that linage ended but it did not for God Almighty swore by Phinehas he would have offspring in a covenant of a priesthood to time indefinite that is because the Son of God was born to Mary by Judah's linage in the second coming foretold in Hebrews 1:6 when my Elohim AGAIN brought His Firstborn into the inhabited earth it was by a descendant of Phinehas. I am that descendant. My father was a descendant from Phinehas down to his birth. I was told this by my Elohim the Most High God who chose a messenger from heaven in June 1966 when I was told about the bringing of that Son a Male who will shepherd the earth with an iron rod into earth once more to rule as King and High Priest born from Judah's linage and from the High Priest linage of Phinehas. That Son of God was born and caught away to His Father's throne at midnight, Saturday June 4th 1971. So my King and High Priest reborn in the manner of Melchizedek in the flesh as he was in the spirit will be 49yrs of age in June 4th 2020 this year. This is the word of the Most High God as it is written but all religions have defiled the true word of the Most High God for all have the truth and turn it into lies defaming the word of the Most High God as it is written.

I believe that Shem or Enoch established the Order of Melchizedek because both of them are related to the early area of the current area of Jerusalem. The potential that either of these two could have known the sons of Abraham and the extended families is a link that I was never taught, but that I love to ponder. This teaching allows me to follow that thread, which brings me peace and joy. "Righteousness " is a trait that we, as humans must choose to follow, and maintain - and it is not an easy path ( especially in today's culture ) . Blessings, Grace and Peace to you and the team. Thank you for maintaining this web site. It is a Blessing .🙏🙏🙏

God bless, brother! 💙

Melchizedek is a title, not a name, although since priesthoods were passed in lineage it could be thought of as a Sir-name or "last" name. Thus Melchizedek is not so much a person as a lineage. This can be seen in the oldest oral traditions, and Abrahamic texts. Equating 'Melchizedek' to a specific person is a little like referring to everyone with the last name 'Smith' as the same guy.

Here is something to consider . Abraham according to most scholars was born 351 years after the flood . Shem the son of Noah lived for 502 years after the flood. This is simple math but that means there was a 151 year overlap in their lives . So the Hebrew tradition that Melchizedek could have been the long lived Shem or Eber under a different name is a possibility ! This definitely would have caused Abraham to pay tithes honoring this priest as the greater. The reason why the scripture says no beginning or ending of days is more to point out the fact that there is no recorded pedigree not that Melchizedek was a Christophany. Also the speaker had some great points about the superiority to the Aaronic priesthood.

Hebrews 7:1-3 Melchizedek is the name of the father. Melchizedek the Priest 7 This Melchizedek was king of Salem and priest of God Most High. He met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, 2 and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. First, the name Melchizedek means “king of righteousness”; then also, “king of Salem” means “king of peace.” 3 Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.

The writer of Hebrews is not declaring that Mel is Jesus, not declaring that Mel is alive, he is drawing the conclusion that just as Mel came into the scene as High Priest and King, so too does Jesus. But Jesus does this in the literal sense. Jesus literally is still alive, unlike Mel, who was just a man living in Salem.

*The order of Melchisedec* God's prophecy of this Melchisedec order was to His Only Begotten Son Psalms 110:1&4. God's prophecy in Psalms 2:7 concerning Messiah the begotten Son is taught by the Apostles in Acts 13:33-34. Begotten Son's meaning is Son raised from the dead. To this Begotten Son was the eternal prophecy of the order of Melchisedec fulfilled. God's prophecy was to His Only Begotten Son and not to the Apostles. After the order of Melchisedec Jesus Christ was not found in this very world but in eternity. Christ was a forerunner when he was in this world before he entered into the veil (eternity) and was made a high priest after the order of Melchisedec. This is clearly mentioned in the scriptures in Hebrews 5:5,6. In verse Hebrews 5:4 *And no man taketh this honour to himself* significantly proves that the order of Melchisedec is not for Man/Apostles. *Begotten Son of God is made a High priest after the order of Melchisedec* Hallelujah

Very simply Melchizadek was created (not born of anything earthly) before earth was created and was Priest of the heavenly tabernacle made by God in Heaven before time began. The earthly tabernacle and earthly Aaronic priesthood were just a copy of what was in heaven and temporary until Christ came to shed His blood on the mercy seat in the heavenly tabernacle thus cleansing heaven of the filth of Satan and opening the way for us to worship in Spirit and truth now having the High priest of heaven to deal with all our sins and make intercession for us.
