In some ways, he's kind of the anti-chronicler. Where Takanuva was the one set to ensure everything was written, Matoro knew but never really told. I like how Bionicle was a toy line that trusted its audience enough to be able to balance characters like that.

Funny enough, Matoro actually becomes a part of history by saving the entire universe from death. He didn't really talk much but took action when it came to being a hero.

@@amajanuitales It makes a nice contrast. Takanuva's journey in comparison is actually less successful if you break it down, despite his toahood not being an accident. While arguable that at some point the mask of life chose Matoro, the lack of pomp and seeming randomness of key events like the lightning strike makes for a completely opposite character arc.

I had read that when the mask turned grey and then black, it would drain everyone's lifeforce in the matoran universe, as a safety mesure if that place became chaos and the great beings considered it not worth saving anymore. Also, that when Mata Nui died, the mask didn't turn black, it just stopped shining

You are correct. The mask stopped shining instead of turning black. For clarification, the Ignika turning the color black is during situations in which the universe was beyond saving like you said. When Mata Nui died, even if the Ignika turned the color black, it would be pointless since all living beings were already doomed to die if Mata Nui isn't revived. We see this in the Kingdom Alternate Universe (which I will explore in the near future). Basically, I should have clarified that "the mask turned dark" instead of "the mask turned the color black".

@@amajanuitales It would still matter, since we see that they managed to survive a bit in the Kingdom's timeline ^^' Thankfully, most of them stopped fighting against each others and went together to try to survive, so the mask probably didn't go grey there.

Holy shit, yes!!!! I could totally see it being made out of stone from Voya Nui and Karda Nui, to honor him with a part of the land where he became a hero, and the place where he became the greatest of all heroes.

I know this isn’t official but I like to think that Umbra was the toa that was part of Toa Jovan’s team who used the mask of light reborn to protect the mask.
