You got nothing I want was a big Far Q to the US music execs back in the early 80's who wanted to change them and mold them into just another AOR band. The US missed out and Chisel got to keep their integrity when they came home. We got this little pearler which was much appreciated by us punters.

Please forgive me if you've already been told.... But yes Ian Moss took main lead vocals on Bow River but is also a phenomenal guitarist, singer songwriter. Jimmy Barnes was the 2nd vocalist on Bow River, but was the man vocalist for the band, but also became (and still is) a prolific songwriter/solo artist, with a vocal capabilities to rival anyone. Dude on piano is Don Walker, absolute musical genius, a true living legend. Wrote most of Chisels songs, composed the music and was really the band leader. Phil Small, the bassist provided solid back bone with steady base lines. Nothing flash, just real hard working rythm, much like Mike Anthony did for Van Halen. And Steve Prestwich (R.I.P) was the drummer, solid, steady, perfect percussion. These dudes were insanely good. If the rest of the world were smart enough to get on to them in their prime, there's a good chance they could have been bigger than AC/DC. That may be only my opinion....but it's due to their collective talent, musical range and repetoire. Nope, nuthin in the world like early Aussie pub rock. LOVE CHISEL! 🤘🎸😎

I couldn't imagine being the smug american music label executive still alive today listening to this song knowing it was written to you specifically and was the ultimate slap in the face as they called you out as grossly incompetent, rude, stupid, greedy and demeaning as they showed you what you missed out on. And not only that but the direct attack of a song they wrote about you became a classic in its own right and made millions. One would hope those people have their heads bowed in shame for the rude negligence and the loss of huge money as those people you threw out became Legends. You Got Nothing I Want was written after they tried to break out in the States. The music promoter said he couldn't come to their show (first show, if I remember correctly) because he had to go to a birthday party of another client's dog. After the show he came back stage and Barnsey asked him if he caught the show, and he said he had just arrived. I don't need stupid alibis! Barnsey looks like his just ambling and stumbling around, but it's an extremely well choreographed video.

All of the 5 main bands members, Jimmy Barnes (Barnsey), Ian Moss (Mossy), Phil Small on guitar, Don Walker on keys and Steve Prestwich (RIP) on drums have written for the band. They started in the 70’s and first disbanded in 1983. They have regrouped for several concerts after that.. so many great songs from them. Jimmy is my favourite artist of all time. I grew up hearing Cold Chisel on the radio far too much, I was into my punk, grunge and heavier and weirder shit and frowned upon the classic Aussie rock like AC/DC and Cold Chisel. I gained a huge appreciation for Cold Chisel after seeing them live a few years back, I'd just finished a 12hr shift at the refinery and had an 1.5hr drive home, to be honest I was tired and just wanted to go to bed when my wife rang me on the way home and told me she had a spare ticket. I walked in tired and not really in the mood to be there and walked out really glad I went, thoroughly enjoyed it. Ian Moss is the glue of this band, he's fantastic

@@grahammcpherson8323 It was in Townsville, and it was actually July 1980 (getting old and memory's fading 😄). The Angels were the headliners and that's who I'd gone to see. Jimmy Barnes still touring now - I have been listening to him with Chisel and solo from 80's to now - Jimmy my favorite singer - what we call 'Pub Rock' - this song released apparently after US music execs not receptive - so luckily we in Australia have had them to ourselves and they are legends here.

When I was a boy in high school, late '70s, they told me Ernest Hemingway was a genius because he "captured the spirit of an age." In about 1980, Cold Chisel hit big in Australia, and that's exactly what they did. They captured the spirit of an age. You want to know what it was like just becoming an adult in Oz in the early '80s ~ listen to Cold Chisel. Listen to Khe San ~ 4 walls ~ Breakfast at Sweethearts ~ Saturday Night ~ Cheap Wine ....

They're singing about the tropical Top End of Australia, hot, wet, with cyclones and crocs. Jimmy does excellent high harmonies. Check out his duet with Tina Turner of 'Simply the Best.' Cheap Wine and a Three Day Growth is a great showcase of his voice. The great Don Walker wrote many of their songs, real songs, with proper development and modulations.

Showing my age but I remember seeing Cold Chisel in the early 80s at Latrobe Uni venue in Bundoora, when they were still doing the rounds of the pubs and clubs. Their support band was INXS! I've lost count of the number of times I've seen them. So glad the world is finally discovering their brilliant music. Does that make Australia super-advanced or the rest of the world hopelessly behind???

Ian Moss on Fender Strat is nothing short of Rock n Roll guitar legendary - But then to have Ian Moss whose vocals are incredible play 2nd fiddle to the atomic explosion that is Jimmy Barnes voice is beyond rock n roll boundaries of good fortune … the two together crack open the world. Rock Royalty. I love their song “Forever Now” the best. They do a phenomenal song called Saturday Night. Their cover of CCR’s put a light in the window is unbelievable. Find a solo of Choir Girl sung by Ian Moss alone in concert - it’s incredible.

He's lost a lot of his range and is a lot of gravel now, but in his younger days, an exceptional rock singer. They did a great version of Knockin' on Heavens door on their live Swingshift album in the early 80s. Amazing vocal power.

Ian Moss, the lead guitarist, sang the lead vocals on Bow River (and it is indeed pronounced bow like bow-tie or bow and arrow). The line "I feel the water licking at my feet again" is apparently ironic, since I've heard that the Bow River of the song is supposedly a dry creekbed.

The guy with the belting raspy voice doing the high bits comes from my home town where the weather is really dry. A lot of the state was once industrial but the bit where Jimmy was from built cars. It’s hard work, so the dream was to go (to the tropical) North as many did to feel the rain. But I think it was the drummer who wrote the song. It is a very good song no matter where you’re from.

I was about 3- 4 yrs old,my dad took the family out for dinner & whatever entertainment was on at the place,my mum.& 2 older brothers.i didnt know who they were but i actually remember they got on stage & began to play it was so loud that the floor boards were vibrating,i remeber feeling it in my chest & i got scared & began to cry...lol...my brothers were more stunned than terrified..lol....jimmy shouted a lot more back then..lol...so my parents decided it was best to go home because i was crying....lol...then fast forward about 15 yrs & i paid to go see them in concert...no crying that time...i promise..lol

Cold Chisel were one of the truly great Australian Rock bands. The two singers you heard here went on to have solo careers. Mossy (who sang Bow River) definitely had success, but it was Barnesy (who sang You Got Nothin I Want) who went on to become Australian Music Royalty. Check out his anthem "Working Class Man" or his duet with another Australian icon Farnesy (yeah, everyone's nickname ends in Y or O in Australia) "When Something is Wrong with my Baby".

Jimmey Barnes is the lead singer with a high raspy voice and the singer-guitarist is Ian Moss and who also writes songs. Barnes's family came from working-class Scotland to the new South Australian town called Elizabeth named after the Queen of England. It was built to supply housing for local industry. His life was very hard and wayward with his parents being fond of a drink as was Jimmy but he has now quietened down considerably in his old age. There were many Australian rock groups that were overlooked by overseas interests that were just as good as AC/DC doing the Pub Rock scene.

Ian Moss (lead guitar) has an excellent voice, and drummer Steve Prestwich [recently passed away - RIP]) also sings very well. The harmonica player Dave Blight is a session muso who usually joins Cold Chisel when they tour (sometimes they tour with a saxophone session muso as well).
