In this episode of Who Is, we delve into the evolution of Justice Clarence Thomas Supreme Court, from his activist roots to becoming one of the most conservative justices in the U.S. Supreme Court. Thomas' journey from left-wing advocacy to championing the rollback of fundamental rights is both intriguing and polarizing as seen in Clarence Thomas documentary, Clarence Thomas interview, Clarence Thomas hearing, Clarence Thomas speech, Clarence Thomas 60 Minutes, Clarence Thomas news, and Clarence Thomas best moments.
Growing up among Jim Crow laws and segregation in America, racially segregated Jim Crow South video, Thomas initially aspired to be the first Black Catholic priest in his small Georgia town. However, the tragic assassination of Martin Luther King 1968 shattered this aspiration, leading Thomas to leave the church.
Admitted to the College of the Holy Cross during a period of increased Black student enrollment through affirmative action Supreme Court, Thomas underwent a profound transformation. He immersed himself in activism, adopting the attire of the Black Panthers, engaging in protests, and advocating for social justice causes.
His transition to the right began at Yale Law School, where he befriended future Trump advisors John Bolton. Post-graduation, Thomas aligned himself with conservative figures, ultimately switching his party affiliation to Republican and voting for Reagan.
His trajectory further ascended when he caught the attention of the Reagan administration, leading to key positions, including running the Equal Employment Opportunity Program Commission. George H.W. Bush nominated Thomas to succeed Thurgood Marshall amidst controversy due to Anita Hill testimony of sexual harassment. Despite Hill's detailed accusations, Thomas was confirmed in a Democrat-controlled Senate.
Thomas' tenure as justice chipped away at pivotal legislation, overturned landmark rulings, and advocated for the curtailment of fundamental rights, including impacting affirmative action policies. Furthermore, his acceptance of lavish undisclosed gifts from influential acquaintances has added to the contentiousness surrounding his influence.

I mea Mike Pence grew up in a fairly liberal Democratic household. He was also swayed by the Reagan admin. I don’t think people realize the power that administration had when it came to charming people. It changed so many people. Not for the better. But what can ya say? Reagan was a charming guy. He won by a landslide. Twice. It’s interesting to think where this country would be today without his influence. Where these people would be.

Yeah because race is more important than treating everyone equally under the law. 🙄 No where in this bit of “journalism” did it show that he did in fact get into school or positions via affirmative action. Proof would be showcasing lower test scores or poor interviews compared to his colleagues, while still gaining entry. None of that was here. This is a hit piece, nothing more. And y’all eat it up like milk from the teet of your government and revolutionary lords.

how inaccurate this is jesus christ. you made it seem like thomas was groomed by this republican senator. danforth was extremely moderate (i guess by todays standards). he detested any amalgamation of religious and political duties, even though he was a strict catholic, and has outspokenly criticized josh hawley, todays more infamous senator from missouri. on anita hill, she did NOT provide a thorough detail of her experience. her story changed multiple times when questioned by the FBI, and she refused to take a lie detector test. joe biden did not “rush” the process. he voted against thomas to be confirmed, so why as the chairman of the senate judiciary committee would he rush a process that would’ve surely resulted in thomas losing popularity? because it was clear to most given the investigation that there was little proof for hills’ allegations, and her credibility was dwindling. like thomas or not, what it means for a judge to be “conservative” is not the same as a mere politician. thomas has a strict judicial philosophy that, though you might disagree with it, is extremely consistent. the recent ethics concerns are troubling, and i think maybe even damning, but i won’t sit here and listen to this nonsense from people who won’t even bother to read a court opinion.

Fun fact: Did you know that Clarence Thomas is actually a Native American from the Gullah tribe and he didn't learn to speak English until he was seven. Look up the Gullah - Geechee wars. He was also involved in the Black power movement in the '60s and '70s and he was a Monsanto lawyer for 4 years before he became a supreme Court Justice

Understanding Uncle Clarence Thomas, from a distance: First, there's enough out there now in media clippings and documentaries, to piece together who Clarence Thomas was, and is. He grew up poor in a Geechie population, of Georgia. But it appears poverty traumatized Clarence to the point of hatred, radicalism, and activism, towards white people, initially. It also appears however, that he was curiously dead set on, seeking absolute acceptance. And young Clarence found it in religion, studying to be a Priest. But back then, you could probably count the number of ordained black Priests in America, on two hands, and feet. Education was still a primary neautralizing pipe dream, in Clarences future. And even though he more than likely benefitted from the very racially equalizing admissions program he later helped destroy Affirmative Action, Clarence Thomas got into an Ivy League school. But he would experience various forms of rejection there, as well. Acceptance by white and not black people has and is today in my opinion, Uncle Clarences ultimate desire, in life. Now as a mixed race man, I've dated and loved many white women in my life, in addition to several other cultures. And it wasn't because, of skin color. Can't say that I believe the same thing, about Uncle Clarence Thomas. Personally, I believe his dating and marrying Ginni Thomas, had everything to do with achieving his ultimate goal in life. Acceptance by white people. In the Appellate and Supreme branches of Americas judiciary however, Clarence in my opinion became confronted with challenges which made it very very difficult for him, to follow in the great distinguished Thurgood Marshall's pro black, footsteps. And it appears, he did everything he could, to avoid that appearance, to white people. Is it true, that after over 40 years on the bench, that 2024 mark's the first time Clarence Thomas, has hired a black clerk? His Geechie speech setbacks, also prevented Clarence despite his Ivy league pedigree, from gaining absolute acceptance, in white power circles. That's where having Ginni Thomas on his arm helped, I believe. And to say she was another piece in Clarences chess game, well you be the judge. But this could explain why you rarely heard him speak (Geechie speech inferiority) over the years, during oral arguments. We watched Clarence cry real tears however, at his confirmation hearing in 1981, over his alleged pubic hair on coke can comment, to Anita Hill. He had come so far gaining acceptance from white people for this to become a national, embarrassment. I'm sure it nearly killed him. Gaining momentum empowered with the balance of power among his colleagues however, Clarence achieved the ultimate platform, where he could inflict punishment on black people perhaps in his mind, some who may have harassed him over poverty, or speech, by rendering severe cruel opinions on voting rights and affirmative action among others, during his tenure. Today, white acceptance (checkmate?)has given Uncle Clarence the right I believe, to partner in what appears, judicial brands of corruption, which is why the Politico revelations this year, have fallen on the Supreme Courts ethics and accountability, deaf ears. In closing, we know exactly who Clarence Thomas was, and is today. Clarence has achieved the ultimate goal, of a poor black child ashamed of his own race, just like Senator Tim Scott, of South Carolina.

Reading many of the comments, appears we have a hard time spending time on learning about people. The literal time it takes away from other priorities in our lives. Preferring the most convenient truth which earned our local community’s acceptance (i.e., what we heard first or what we’ve agreed to now) over the nuanced truth in all its complexity. Who has the time? Who doesn’t enjoy convenience? Who really wants to question their own opinions among likeminded people? Who enjoys changing their identity? It can all but too quickly feel like a lonely world. Thankfully, I’m finding at least, there are good people everywhere. Judge others less, pun intended LOL. Curiously learn from/about others more. I usually find myself stepping back when watching these sorts things, so I thought out loud above, and currently thinking I want to learn more about Clarence Thomas. He appears to have faced and be facing plenty of adversity and leading a very interesting life. Many life experiences that would teach anyone a lot, and basically, that are completely different from my own. It’s irritatingly often a more complicated world than we’d like to live in - not to mention daily - so I choose my battles. Totally good with not knowing what I haven’t learned yet and there’s always new information. Now speaking of time or convenience, as this talk apparently struck another cord that got me thinking albeit not in agreement, much appreciate that you spent time to read my comments here! I hope 2024 treats us well, happy new year!

This is really interesting as it cones off as a left leaning article, but puts Thomas in a place to show who he wants to be around, and a surprise kindness from Samity Sam (whom i am making fun of and now have more respect for). Thomas leaving the church because they were not helping, to trying to help by protesting but realizing he was destroying, his transformation ending when he recieved an unnecessary kindness from an unusual suspect. I did not see that being the narative of the video when i started it.

This is a crappy analysis. He clearly shifted in his post-graduate years when he met Bolten etc., but it is not clear why. That seems like a pivotal transition period that you glossed over. What happened? How did the people he met shape his shift to the right? What sociopolitical events occurred at that time that caused the shift? Why did he abandon his leftist views? Looking further ahead, what impact did the Anita Hill accusations have on his ideology, if any? Edited for clarity.

Painting such a black and white image of a person is disingenuous to meaningful discussion. It treats the subject like an unthinking automaton. Read some of his Opinions from the court, whether on the winning or losing side, and you’ll be aware that, even if you disagree with his conclusions, he’s a human being who thinks and cares about what is right.
