    I love that you get to the content quickly without all the personal ranting which seems to be more and more frequent on youtube. I start a d&d vid and have to hear about someone’s new shoes, their todo list, etc... before they mention what’s in the title. So thanks!

    I’ve been running the storm kings thunder campaign and am just about to launch off that into some forgotten realms homebrew; been bingeing your channel for a week now and it’s given me so much great information and ideas. Love your videos man keep up the good work!

    Same! Sorry to be a mooch, but do you have any tips on SKT chapter 3 while it's fresh in your mind (I see you commented 2 months ago so I assume you're still in the campaign). tbh I don't expect a reply but if you could offer some direction to a newish DM that would be awesome!!!

    Hey! I'm definitely no expert but happy to try, first I would say that there is plenty of information floating around online that can be super helpful from people who are much more knowledgeable than me. However I find chapter 3 the most interesting and it can be either super great or just something to kinda brush over, it's basically an open world adventure of the savage frontier. I used a combination of the books 'suggested encounters' in the location descriptions (found in chapter 3) and some homebrew for the characters backstories. Nothing major just a side quest here or there which ended up with each having a magic item. It's a fairly unique part of the module which can be fun but if you feel like it's not going anywhere just chuck Harshnag in and keep rolling forwards!

    Great video as always. I always thought "The Dragon Cult" was such a dumb name. It's so obvious and on the nose, like what cult would just openly call themselves a cult? In my games I always end up renaming the cult to something like "The Sons of Tiamat" or something along those lines.

  • @samsampier7147

    @samsampier7147

    I do not think they call themselves that. Keepers of the Secret Hoard or Wearer's of Purple are some of the nicknames. Like many cults it's about indoctrination; tempting vulnerable people, providing comradeship, and giving them something to believe in. In the Cult of the Dragon it's about worshiping dragons. "No young pupil we are not a Cult. We are organization focused on power and authority. Who wields the greatest power in the Realms? The dragons. We bow down to our reptilian masters so we may share the power and wisdom with us their servants."

    Well said. Precisely why I opted to name them something different in my campaign. Though admittedly, "The Sons of Tiamat" may have been a little on the nose.

    I always think of the Sons of Svanir from Guild Wars 2, who are a cult also formed around the ice dragon Jormag. They follow the mindset of, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em," but the power Jormag gives also causes physical transformation ultimately making the Sons of Svanir mindless minions. Only a relative few members can still speak after the corruption, and it becomes something of a sign to the cult-perhaps you are seen as special/worthy of retaining speech by Jormag??

    idk I was thinking about the thieves guild, and some of the orders of paladins(not guilds) and some other groups of people that do not count as factions but have a sort of organization. Sorry that was not specific at all.

    In a campaign I’m currently running, I’ve chosen to have the Order been created by the Moonstars (the more militant and ethically questionable branch of the Harpers). They have since become independent and shifted in their ideology to more fully embrace the Lawful Good thing, rather than being the aggressive ‘army of good’ that the Moonstars envisioned.

    I've read a few, not all of them (obviously). I intentionally try to pull information from campaign books and adventures rather than the novels. I didn't want the channel to turn into a book review, or in order to know about the lore you have to have read said book that I'm now spoiling.

    thankyou, one of my players are going to be a Knight Tyrant ( Paladin of Conquest ) in my SKT's game so I'm looking for some really extreme Paladin Order to recommend to him. He's thinking of following Tyr or Helm. for Tyr's side I can't find any info about the Knights of Samular though they seemed perfect for the concept

    Cult of the dragon are long dismissed an no longer relevant after Sammaster death with the destruction of Dracorage Mythal WHICH is his phylactery. The evil dragons in the cult of the dragons no longer affected with dracorage thus No longer interested becoming Draco Liches. They demand refunds - the Dragons instantly Pillage & Plunder the cult riches to their hoard. Most cultist were eaten by their dragons.

    As a big fan of paladins and basically all things knightly, I really don't care for the Order of the Gauntlet. It just doesn't feel very Forgotten Realmsy to me. It's way too one-dimensional as an organization of good guys fighting for goodness and has no grounding in the lore. I watched this video hoping that I was wrong and that the Order had a depth and history that I had missed (Perhaps they were tucked away in a paragraph in the original 1987 box set? Maybe Ed Greenwood wrote an article about them in Dragon magazine?), but it appears that this was a wholly new creation for 5e. Although I don't think that a Lawful Good power group is necessary in the Realms, if WotC wanted to make one I wish that they had adapted an existing organization like the Knights of the North or even the Order of the Radiant Heart from BG2.
