All problems have only one key move (the key is the first white move). If you think you have found another solution, watch it again because you are certainly wrong.
Really liked this, like a magician's trick or something. Wish I had got it.
Subtle Bishop blocks to mate the black King!
I enjoyed it. Thanks
I was stuck on keeping the black queen from getting momentum, but that is a sweet move.
Wow!! Nice one!!
I got the right answer fairly quickly but, I must admit, without considering the black Queen's move.
EDIT after watching: I had neglected the Qf6+ response. However, a bishop move of Bg5 still blocks the attack and gives checkmate, so it works out. Before watching: Qg2. Here's why. You're threatening checkmate in multiple forms: Qd2#, or any bishop move *except* Bd2 (provided you can deal with the threat of the QUeen) First, let's address the Knight. The Knight has literally no move it can make that will have any impact whatsoever on this game. The Knight cannot check the King (thus delaying checkmate 1 turn), nor in any appreciable way interfere with Qd2#. The Knight is basically a non-factor after Qg2. So the Knight's not going to help against Qg2, so what can Black do? Well, Black has a lot of Queen moves they can make that you would think can stop the checkmate. The most impressive to come to mind are Qa4+, Qd4+ and Qh1+. However, both of these only stop the Qd2#; by removing the queen, Black leaves themselves open for Black to get out of check *while delivering checkmate*, with Bf4# and Bh6#! The bishop blocks the Queen's attack, and unleashes a Rook attack on the King that cannot be avoided. And, of course, if Black simply responds to Qg2 with Qxb1, then Qd2# ends the game. You can test things out yourself; the Queen cannot both defend against Qd2# and the discovered checkmate with the rook. So, Queen moves are out, and knight moves are out. What then? You have exactly one option for your King to move, namely with Ke1. Now, you might think this is a good solution, as a bishop move for a discovered checkmate is easily routed by Qxb1, and Qd2+ allows the King to live another day by escaping with Kf1. However, this is why Qg2 was so important. We respond to Ke1 with Bd2, checking the king with both the bishop and the rook. When you're facing a double-check, you have 2 attacks to neutralize, meaning that capturing or blocking a single piece isn't going to cut it. Your king has to be able to move. The King can't stay on the 1st rank, and can't go to the 2nd rank because of the Queen. Qg2, followed by (depending on how Black chooses to defend) either Qd2#, Bd2#, Bf4#, or Bh6#, provides our solution.
Brilliant move, just excellent as always. Thank you very much.
Nice one!
Really great !
First time I actually found the solution to one of these puzzles, that felt awesome
remarkable!
Haven't seen a bishop block like that since the inquisition.
1.Qg2 , I guess. To each black Queen's check, it will follow a white bishop's blockade and mate with the rook. Or if 1...Qa5 / Ke1, then 2.Bd2#.
I did it backwards. I saw the bishop could block any black queen check on white. Then figured out where the white queen must go.
Another excellent puzzle

QF3, KE1, BD2 would be my idea, but it probably won't work since then we'd get KD2.

Fooled me!
I love the solution to this puzzle! … even though I did not solve it after 3 days of struggling with it. N.B. giving up chess seems a sensible course of action for the sake of my sanity. 🤪

Qc3 isn’t possible so I assume you mean Qd3, but after Bd2 there is just Kf2

@@fklmrek437 Once again, thank you. My very real problem is a problem with my own character in that throughout my life I have been rash and I lack the patience to be other than a mediocre player... the difference between C and D is quite glaring.
