White-throated Capuchins | The Bronx Zoo | May 28th, 2017

On the backside of the now-defunct Monkey House, you can still see some of the exhibit's residents - a family of white-throated capuchins (also known as white-headed or white-faced capuchins) (Cebus capucinus).
I don't think a great deal of people realize this exhibit is here, and so it's typically very quiet - and you can enjoy quite a bit of peaceful, uninterrupted time with these monkeys by yourself. :)
I love watching these guys. They're so human-like. The way they look at the lettuce they're eating, the way they use their dainty little hands to carefully pick it apart, or to sift through each other's fur for insects. I love how you can see them thinking their every movement through, calculating which vine they want to grab onto next or which platform to jump to, or how they know that they need to swing the tire in their exhibit one direction in order to push themselves in the other. It's really very fascinating.
