White People Naming Their Babies..

My brand new special “Are You For Real?” is available for pre-order NOW at treykennedy.com/special.
After months of conversations with various streamers, they more or less said “maybe next time.”
I’ve only gotten “no’s” from the big wigs in LA and NYC for 10 years now. So I self-produced my very own special and I’m bringing it straight to y’all who’ve made it possible in the first place. Let’s just keep building this thing together - I like it better that way anyway.
I’m so happy to bring this special to all of you and I hope you enjoy. Let’s prove em all wrong. Much love ❤️

What parents should do for 6 months when they go to places that ask for reservations of a person's name such as a restaurant or when going to Starbucks and the barista asks for the name the parents should say the name they want to name the baby. If anyone makes a face because it's a stupid name or asks how to spell it countless times since some parents try to be unique then the parents get to see what the child would go through in life. It would be a small glimpse of what the child would have to go through, if all parents did this before coming up with a name.

Laston for "the last son"? In Turkey we literally have it. "Soner" means "the last male". Generally that's something whether for "no more kids after this" or "no more child deaths after this". Actually there are names remaining from high baby mortality days where people would name their kids as "Yeter" (F, means "enough"), Dursun (M, means "let it stop"), Satılmış (M, means "sold", from a superstition involving telling the death that the baby is sold could avoid death because death could skip the baby), etc. There are names for the first born kids like "İlker" (M, "the first male"), İlknur (F, "the first light"). Female versions of "Soner" also exist like "Songül" (the first rose), "Sonnur" (the last light). We don't have "Ember" (Köz) in my country but we have "Spark" (Kıvılcım). A rare name but still there is. I had a crush in one girl named as that. Many names are taken from nature, abstract ideas and so on.

As a German, it just seems so utterly wild to me that there are no restrictions in the US on what you can and cannot name your baby. Here, the local civil registry office needs to approve the baby name and they will not let you name your kid in a way that violates their personal rights - meaning you cannot name your child after a brand, geographic region or noble title (so no Gucci, North, Mississippi and definitely bye bye Tributary), negatively associated biblical names are also prohibited (e.g. Judas, Satan) and their name is not allowed to be insulting or sound ridiculous. I would argue that each of the names Trey used here would not make the cut 😁

I was thinking the same thing. Even though I like that names have to be allowed so kids don't get punished with weird names, I have also experienced with friends from other cultural backgrounds that their name choices had to be approved because they were unknown. But it is more of a time consuming formality if the name checks the boxes rather then an exclusion as explained by Leona. Good example of orderly, German bureuracy though ;-)

But all the rules mentioned by Leona still apply, also: there could be max 2 names and it shouldn't be diminutive (I won't write it can't be because I know that depends on clerk if s/he allow to use diminutive form. I know ona Majka, where this is diminutive of Maja)

If you are thinking of giving your kids unusual names, consider making it their middle name. You can still call them the special name that at home, but then they have the option of being “John” or “Emma” on college and job applications. I had a friend in middle school who went by Scout and his brother was Trooper. But they had typical first names because their mom … you know …. Cared about their future and wanted them to be able to run for office or just go to the doctor’s office with dignity.

Personally I don't see a problem with the vast majority of unique names when it comes to things like a job or the Dr. office as far as it being spoken. My concern is the writing of it. To have a name that no one knows how to spell it, or how you spell it, just by it's sound - or it's a common name but now everyone's spelling it weirdly so they never know and still have to ask... or it's one which they've never heard of being spelled some other way and yet yours is... and they HADN'T asked, and now it's misspelled on a formal invite or worse... . Like Sindy. I have never, ever heard of Cindy but with an S, yet Luke over at MIGardener channel, his wife is named that. She is Asian and so I'm wondering if there's an explanation within that, like an Asian name combo with the usual Cindy, OR it's totally from an Asian name, or what. Sometimes, these things actually happen by a mistake on a birth certificate , and the parents didn't notice right away and then it was too costly to change it, or they decided they'd keep it, for whatever other reason. We ended up with a registered Holstein cow with a weird name once because my Dad's handwriting ( which wasn't bad, but the boxes they give for the letters are fairly small) was mis-copied/understood by the person making out the official registration papers.

He said, "Like, I haven't heard that before". I said, "You know you are an adult now, you know that, right? You can change the spelling you know to reflect what your Mom wanted, there are several acceptable spellings for Shaun". As a father of an "Ember" I can say I had this exact conversation with my wife before ultimately giving in and just letting her name our baby what she wanted. lol. The trade off was I get to name our son a normal name. Also, super funny, my wife suggested Neveah originally as well. lol it's like you were there for our convo... but my argument against was Neveah was it sounded like Nineveh in the Bible and that's the place God was going to destroy (Jonah) and eventually destroyed (Nahum) because it was super wicked /evil and corrupt so I at least avoided that one with logic lol And you're right, God on earth is Jesus, angels on earth are fallen... which is NOT a good thing... lol let's not push our luck with an anti-heaven/reverse heaven names.
