She was the perfect host.

Clearly, in the above video the young lady who was our guide proved to be a wonderful host, very informative, and the star of the White Pass Railroad. You will be very fortunate if you happen to have her as your guide. She made our trip something we will always treasure.

@@H.pylori We actually booked an Alaska Cruise going June 2021 and planning to take the train. I hope CDC allows all cruise sailing again soon. Thanks!

How do you ensure that you can get a seat in the luxury car?

When you book the cruise and plan to take the White Pass train ride, you can get the agent to reserve a seat at that time. This is best since seats go really fast. Second, as soon as you board ship go to the cruise tour desk and make the reservation. Do not do what I did. We had the ticket for the regular car, and just prior to docking in Skagway we went to the cruise tour desk and lucked out on the last two seats available. It is really worth the extra price, what with the food, private host, comfortable seating, and the rear outside platform all to yourself for most of the trip, especially if it is a little chilly outside. I will bet you now that you will not regret the experience.

I had the same problem back in 2019. I purchased the regular tickets via the cruise excursions prior to the trip. Then, during the cruise, when I found out about the VIP car, I went to the cruise excursion desk on board and asked if I could upgrade to VIP. Fortunately there were two seats left and we paid the extra to upgrade. Please check with the White Pass RR directly, since during and just after COVID they discontinued the VIP car. Hopefully they have started it for this season. Good Luck! It is worth the ride.

We searched all over and found the only one offering the Luxury Car experience was our cruise line (Royal Caribbean). Luckily we were able to book at a decent discounted price.

I want to book this excursion on my Celebrity cruise. Does this include the train up and down or do you transfer and take a bus back down? Are exact seats pre-reserved or is it first come? If you get the bad side of the car do they make people switch on the way back? TY.

Thanks for watching. This luxury coach costs more than the regular coach but it is well worth it for the extra amenities as you saw in the video. This trip is the up and back one that goes up the mountain to the top and then turns around. In 2019 you did not need a passport since the train company had made a deal that since this was a turn-around trip, and only extended about a 1/4 mile into Canada, and the passengers stayed on board. The trip that you envision, and the one I will do next time, is the one-way trip up the mountain, past the turn-around point and on to Fraser, Canada. There you get off the train and board a bus for the return to Skagway. The advantage to this excursion is that you get fantastic views of both sides of White Pass. Since you go further into Canada and actually get off the train you will need a passport. To answer the other questions: there were no reserved seating in either the luxury coach or the regular coaches. However, the luxury coach only has about 13 very comfortable seats (like your living room at home) and your own viewing window. Also, on the luxury coach you can go outside to a viewing platform and have unobstructed views and photo opportunities on both sides of the train. I spent most of my time outside on the platform. The best view going up the pass is on the left side (facing forward) of the coach, and the best view coming down the pass is on the right side. The bus ride back to Skagway provides a totally different view of the pass and the driver has designated stopping points for photo opportunities. Since this excursion leaves in the morning, you should have ample time to explore the town of Skagway and learn about its history. Have a wonderful trip!

@@H.pylori Thank you so much for your reply. I told DH about all this and the extra money and he said 'I'll leave it to you'. So basically, he wrote me a blank check. lol. This trip will be a one and done, so I'm not going to miss a thing. We're going on the last AK cruise of 2022, having been cancelled in 2020 and 2021. Your videos are great and having been to many of the same places as you and many cruises, they are very accurate. Happy Trails.

@@KS-cl8br I do not drink alcohol either. The snacks are nice and all you can eat till gone. The limited number of seats are as comfortable as one in your living room and you have an unobstructed view of the canyon and scenery. The restroom is immaculate and very private. The major reasons for booking this car you have your own guide who gives much more information than they get in the other cars, and the larger platform in the rear for taking photos and having an unobstructed view of both sides of the train both coming and going. The luxury car is the last one on the train so no cars are behind it. I spent 80% of the trip on the open platform, which was a little cold, but allowed me to have it to myself for most of the trip. So, as a once in a lifetime type of trip...yes, it was worth it.
