White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad with Yukon Suspension Bridge

In this video, we highlight an excursion from our cruise to Alaska in August 2023 and our port in Skagway where we boarded the famous White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad.
Couple of fun facts:
This route was built in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush. It was designated as an International Historic Civil Engineering Landmark (along with the Eiffel Tower & Statue of Liberty).
It’s a 3’ wide narrow gauge railway and climbs almost 3,000 feet in the first 20 miles. Goes through a couple of tunnels and over some bridges and trestles.
On the route we pass Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point & Dead Horse Gulch.
Stay tuned at the end for the second half of our tour. After the 20 mile ride up we arrived in Fraser Canada - where we jumped on some buses for the remainder of the drive to north British Columbia to the Yukon Suspension Bridge. Swaying 180’ wide and 65’ above the Tutshi River Canyon. Stunning scenery and a very cool stop!
I would classify this as a MUST DO excursion. We definitely look forward to returning someday as it stayed on our bucket list.

We really didn’t see many deer or bears. On the cruise, we saw a lot of whales, otters, eagles.
