White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad
Built in 1898 as a way to expedite travel during the Klondike Gold Rush, the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad is a three-foot-wide narrow gauge railroad that climbs from sea level to almost 3,000 feet in the first 20 miles. An engineering marvel, it features two tunnels and travels over sky-high trestles and bridges. Considered an impossible feat, the railway was completed in 26 months by blasting through the mountains with 450 tons of explosives. The 110-mile railroad was officially completed when a final golden spike was hammered into place on July 29, 1900, in Carcross, Yukon. Fully restored, the comfortable passenger coaches feature large picture windows and are pulled by diesel locomotives. At the completion of your excursion, convenient dockside service returns you directly to your ship.
What You See Along The Way:
The railway excursion is enhanced by the breathtaking vistas, waterfalls, mountains, glaciers and unforgettable Klondike Trail of '98, a tribute to the optimistic prospectors in search of their fortune. The fully restored cars, pulled by vintage diesel locomotives, climb nearly 3,000 feet over 20 miles of steep grades and around cliff-hanging turns. You'll retrace the original route to the White Pass Summit, passing Bridal Veil Falls, Inspiration Point and Dead Horse Gulch. Take in the majestic panorama and historic sites from your large picture windows.
Photo Opportunities:
Be sure to grab your camera, as the train winds its way along jaw-dropping hairpin curves, over amazing plunging gorges, past sparkling waterfalls and sky-high trestles. You'll even see the original Klondike Trail of '98 worn into the rocks, a permanent tribute to the thousands of gold seekers who passed this way in search of fortune.
Guests on this excursion will enjoy the convenience of dockside loading and unloading close to the ship, eliminating the need to go to the train depot.
Special Notes:
No passport required as you do not disembark the train at the summit.
Provided: All Aboard souvenir magazine, bottled water
Unaccompanied Minor Policy: Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

My grandparents took me on a trip to Alaska when I was 10 (20 years ago and they’ve both passed) and I’ve spent hours trying to remember what train in all of Alaska we took. The one specific thing I remembered about it was that a boulder rolled down the cliff onto the workers that was so big they could never recover their bodies and that there was a cross left to memorialize them over 100 years ago. Finally figured out it was this one! Thank you for posting 😊

We did the round-trip version in 2015 on our Princess Alaska trip. It was one of our all-time favorite excursions. It worked well for my husband, who was having trouble with his hip (since replaced) as even in the non-accessible cars there was minimal walking- just a couple of steps up to get in the car and a couple of steps down. It was spooky and foggy at the top of the route- really cool! Thank you for posting this- great to see some of the scenery again. :)

We took this trip last week. We boarded near our cruise ship (Ovation of the Seas) and went round trip. The train does cross the Canadian border and goes round trip without stopping. No need to change seats since your view changes on the return.

At the beginning of the video you mention the different train ride options: round trip, one that goes into Canada, and one with a bus. You say you'll talk about those later but then don't. I was looking for a comparison.
