Whitby Wrecking Rig Tying
With Storms Dudley and Eunice sweeping the Uk, I've taken the opportunity to get ahead with tying up the rigs I provide for wreck fishing on Sea Urchin. If you need to use my gear this year on your wrecking trip, this is what you'll be getting.

Thanks Tony. Much appreciated 👍👍
Thank you for a informative video and although I will never be fishing from your end of the land as I live on the Isle of Wight I am just going to be getting some black muppets to add to my collection and also will be only using one hook on some of my traces hopefully we all can get out soon once this nasty wind dies down and put your advice to good use 👍
Great educating video love the simplicity of explaining the knot thank you

Thanks for this, heading to Whitby wreck fishing this month (June) very helpful.
Fantastic. I’m defo going to give this a try. Thanks.
Thats the knot I use on my fly fishing leaders I just cut the boom near the knot to make a very good stand off dropper

Exactly the same as me David. Just need a few more twists with the lighter line for fly fishing, so the loop doesn’t close under pressure. Regards, Andy
Those dark colors, (black or dark purple) squid lures or even jigs are lethal in dirt water or at night. And it really doesn't matter what you're working on as far as species goes.

I love the darker colours when it's a bit murky 👍
Many thanks for showing this rig as a newbie to wreck fishing it was very helpful. Can you say what bait you have found best, how you attach the bait and how do you fish with this rig ? Many thanks and tight lines

Hi Robert. Many thanks for the kind words. On theses traces at Whitby, we generally use either a whole Squid or a Mackerel fillet. They catch us plenty of Cod and Ling. 👍

hello andy, some great videos mate. just wondering if it would be better to use a rotten botton on the end of your wrecking rig.

Thanks very much for the feedback, it's really appreciated. I've personally used rotten bottoms for wrecking in the past and still see a few lads using them now. To be honest, I find they make little difference on the wrecks. More often than not, it's the hooks which seem to get caught up. If a lead gets stuck, I can quite often tease it out of the wreck with my hand, so I don't bother with tying up rotten bottoms. The lads that I do see use them still lose a similar amount of gear. Regards Andy
Hi good video thanks. What brand j hook are you using there please?

Hi Mark. I get the hooks from a seller on EBay called Cathedral Baits and Tackle. They’re not branded hooks, but I get them in packs of 100. Good value for money I think.
Hi great video I’m coming up next week out on the boat and I’m making some rigs Iv got some 80lb mono will is be ok mate or is it to light? Thanks 👍

I would say 80lb is ok Tom. Don’t spend money buying 100lb line if you don’t usually use it. Regards, Andy

Thanks mate iv got a roll for 80 and 200lb what I use for the tope. first time wrecking and fishing the east coast so something new 😁 Iv bin booked on Jean k for a treat (sorry it wasn’t with you not my doing) Iv been asked to bring my own rigs,weights, bait and scads so thought I’ll coast down a bit. Iv got a 6” 30-40lb boat rod with 50lb line on would that be ok to use up there or best just to use his rods?

@@TomEarp-poppy That sounds fine Tom. A 30-40 Class rod with 50lb braid and using the 80lb traces will be fine. Kevin (on Jean-K) is a great Skipper and I’m sure you’ll have a great day out. Best Regards, Andy

Where do you get your muppets from and would you be able to set up a 2 hook rig up with a smaller bait below
@whitbywreckandreeffishing
Жыл бұрын
They are the 10” Fish Eagle Muppets. You can tie as many stand off loops as you like on the trace. I only use one loop to minimise tackle losses in the wrecks. Works fine with two and a smaller bait though 👍

@@whitbywreckandreeffishing what would be the minimum lb trace would you use. Could you use a shockleader for the whole thing or not.. I normally go on trips out but normally only get feather so trying to make a few rig up so I can ask to change
@whitbywreckandreeffishing

@@danonline19 you can make the traces on whatever strength line you like. Depends on what you’re targeting and what ground. The lighter the line, the more twists you will need to put in, to stop the knot slipping. I just use 100lb for Cod and Ling on wrecks. I certainly wouldn’t go below 60lb as I want to land what I hook. Regards, Andy
Hi Andy. If I was to lose all my end gear say for instance 8 would you charge me to use yours 🤔

Hi Jonathon. Apologies for the delayed response, not sure how I missed this. I always have loads of gear on board, as people regularly run out of leads, or want to use my bait traces instead of the ones they have etc. I can sort out any end gear shortages you might have. 12oz leads are 4 for £5 and the same for bait traces.

@@whitbywreckandreeffishing thanks andy 👍 thats good to know there's always unlucky days where we can all lose end gear but hey thats fishing 🎣 thanks for the response. & as always tight lines.
Ever tried portand rigs up there? They are simple and cheap too.

Hi Mark. I see a few lads use these rigs, but a flowing trace in a wreck seems to get stuck a lot more often. They are good for drifting rough ground though 👍

@@whitbywreckandreeffishing know what you mean. We use them off Weymouth but there's loads of tide here so they OK for wrecking pollack, drifting for bass and general bottom fishing here. Kinda the go-to rig fir us southerners.
So how do you attache the rig to the lead and main line.
@whitbywreckandreeffishing

Sorry Terry, I know I forgot to say in the video. I tie a “figure of 8” knot in each end of the trace. I have a crane swivel on the end of the reel braid and then loop-to-loop the lead on.
How do I book onto your boat mate
Where do you normally get your muppets from please

I get them from a nearby tackle shop. They are the 5” Fisheagle Muppets. Regards Andy
How do you attach the lead , and to the reel line.
@whitbywreckandreeffishing

I tie a figure of eight loop in each end of the bait trace. The lead is then loop-to-looped on one end and a Crane/Snap Swivel on the end of the reel braid connects the other end. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for that. Is there any advantage in using mono over fluoro for tying these rigs? Is it just that mono is cheaper?
@whitbywreckandreeffishing
Жыл бұрын
@@mattdaniels6873 I personally prefer prefer Flourocarbon for longer flowing traces (uptiding in particular) as it straightens better than mono, doesn’t have as much memory. For wrecking and rough ground, I don’t think there’s any benefit to using it. 100lb mono works really well for me, in the applications we use.
