    @@enfoldedheartmusic I am not sure your motivation for playing this but I read the whole Bible and after reading all of Psalms I realized I wanted to learn to play the 10 string Lyre and hear how music may have sounded when he played to God. So I got one for Christmas and since I am musically challenged I found your videos, intimidating to say the least. But I am inspired! Thank you!!

    @@michaellopez1760 I must say that your comment was a special delight for me to receive! Though I didn't originally learn the lyre as a direct inspiration from David, it didn't take long for me to develop a particular love for the instrument due to its connection to Scripture and the life of David. There is something quite amazing and very special about playing an instrument that is connected to such a significant person in salvation history and to the culture of the Jewish people at large. Admittedly, I did learn that David likely played it with a pick (like you use for a guitar) and in a style quite different than what I personally feel called to, but nonetheless, I'm still deeply inspired by it and love to pray with the lyre to God and to do so, in a sense, under the example of David. (As far as I understand, Michael Levy plays in this ancient style kzread.info/dash/bejne/aqGOrpmTk9Cdn9Y.html) On a secondary note: A while back, I began to write some simpler pieces for specific psalms such that I could sing the psalm while playing the little tune on the lyre (you can see the biblical inspiration there!). Truthfully, I was hesitant to share them because I wasn't sure if they would be of much interest (and my singing voice isn't amazing), but I plan to begin sharing them actually next week with sheet music on my website. My hope is that perhaps that will be a bit more encouraging for you and others, and may be a small gift if it's of any interest to you. It's a way I very much enjoy praying. Apologies for an unusually long message....! I do hope that the lyre is a wonderful instrument for you to play and that it is a joyful activity for you. If I can be of help, you're welcome to reach out via a comment or email (enfoldedheartmusic@gmail.com). All the best and God bless

  • @enfoldedheartmusic

    @enfoldedheartmusic

    6 ай бұрын

    Thanks so much and I am delighted that you enjoyed it. Regarding the wrap - yes, I find that it helps add stability and allows my left hand to move and play more freely without moving the entire instrument. You can't really see it in the video, but the wrap (which is just a strip of cloth from an old t-shirt, nothing fancy) is twisted around my left wrist so it basically holds the lyre without needing to use my hand. Happy to explain more if it's of help to you, though I am by no means an expert! (:

    Thanks for your question :) I play with the tips of my fingers and actually keep my nails quite short. If it's of help, I play quite lightly / softly and don't pull the strings as much as give a light pluck or strum to them. I find it helpful to have a touch more similar to what seems to be more akin to picking a guitar than plucking a harp. Hope that helps out a bit !
