If you want to use the cherry syrup, try a Boulevard Manhattan. 3 oz bourbon or rye (I tend to use Knob Creek Rye, at 100 proof it works well in mixed drinks) 1.5 oz dry vermouth 1 oz Gran Marnier 4 dashes bitters (aromatic or orange) 1 1/2 teaspoons cherry syrup Shake over ice Pour into glass and add one (or more) Luxardo cherries. Something tells me you'd do two or more. Not a drink I'd have every day, but a nice twist on a Perfect Manhattan. Or a Boulevardier that eschews the bitterness of the Campari.

When you instead miss it for Colorado try the Brown Palace for any coctails!!! AS you walk your dog up Dakota Ridge take the side trail to the Dinosaur Footprints!! And metro Denver has lots of Artisan Beers! Then hit Red Rocks Amphitheater when an Irish Band one or two people heard of called U2 or watch a movie on the Jumbo Screen as you see the ridge you hiked listening to music

Wild Turkey Rare Breed Rye (barrel proof) will show you that Amercan Rye is not limited to the MGP flavor profile (which includes Bulleit and just about every other American Rye outside of Rittenhouse and a few others) And again ... Improved Whiskey Cocktail ! You have the maraschino liqueur, simple syrup , love the absinthe and can use any whiskey that you like !! LuvYa.

Please make a Classic Rum Punch: 1 sour, 2 sweet, 3 strong and 4 weak. You get to choose what to use for sour, sweet, strong (what kind of rum) and weak. Making for myself, lime juice for the sour component, orange juice for the sweet component, Appleton Estate for the dark(ish) rum, ginger beer for the weak component. Garnish with a Luxardo cherry (plus a bit of the cherry syrup), plus a shake of nutmeg.

When making a classic New Orleans cocktail, you can’t go wrong with Old Olverholt. Also, a rye whiskey that I find very tasty and it’s easy to find is Old Forester’s 100 proof Rye. James Pepper Cask Strength is worth a shot too. Cheers!

About 45 years ago, when I was a bartender, the only Rye I poured, was Old Overholt Pennsylvania Rye. We called it "Old Overcoat". But it made a good drink, and might work well in this drink. It seems to be available on the internet. Well, good luck and have much fun!

Sazerac Rye is good, Old Overholt is a very nice cheap rye, I would definitely pick up Wild Turkey, Elijah Craig, and Jim Beam Ryes as well. The only issue I have with Bulleit is that they don’t actually make their own rye they buy it from another distiller. All of the others I mentioned make their own which I definitely feel like makes a big difference.

The smell of a good rye whiskey or scotch whiskey is amazing, I will agree with you there. There is such a warmth, if warmth had a smell, to it. Louisiana has a whiskey called LA 1. Not sure if you can find it in Ireland, but you may be able to order some on line. Am looking in my local area of Colorado to see if we have it here.

  • @bravowhiskey4684

Definitely bump up to 60ml Rye. A Manhattan is always based on 2:1 ratio of Rye:Vermouth, and its variants should be based on that. Typically, Riffs on Manhattans reduce or entirely substitute the Vermouth, not the main spirit. That said, I’m sure this cocktail is good both ways. It might be less offensive to a beginner this way, especially with Bulliet rye. As for that, you must find Rittenhouse bonded 100proof if at all possible in Ireland. 2:1 Rittenhouse + Carpano Antica will make the absolute best Manhattan on the planet, and my recommendation is to use Fee Bros “barrel aged” bitters (2 dash) + “West Indian orange” bitters (2 dash). Alternatively, their black walnut bitters are also excellent in Rye cocktails. Slainte!

  • @PiraticalBob

A couple of ryes to try are Redemption Rye, which is a 99% rye mash bill, and Old Overholt, which was the only rye available in the US for much of the 60's; its mash bill is only about 51% rye with the rest being corn, so it's considered a bourbon drinker's rye. Old Overholt is one of the three famous "olds," the other two being Old Grand-Dad 100-proof bourbon and Old Crow bourbon.

Sagamore source their Rye from MGP just like Bulliet, but they also do a cask strength version that I'd love to try. Their standard version tastes very similar to Bulliet but is more expensive. Knob creek do a great Rye too with the added bonus of the amusing name

As some have mentioned, *Rittenhouse Rye* is a must have. It's my go-to rye for a "one and done" (not the name of a cocktail, just at a 100 proof it's one drink and I'm good for the night). *Old Forester Rye* is quite good too (also 100 proof). Old Forester has got more of a "creamy" thing where the Rittenhouse is definitely more spicy. *High West Double Rye* is good (strong spicy with dill/grassy notes). This next one has a smaller distribution, but if you can find it, *Rough Rider Bull Moose Rye* (92 proof) is one of my favorites. It's smooth and balanced and is great for Manhattans, really classy. For something different, if you want to get a good sipping whiskey, you could try *Eifel German Rye Whisky* (92 proof), which is technically a rye whiskey but really stands on it's own. It's quite full flavored with less rye spice and more chocolate and cherry notes (not cheap at $60 USD). Thanks for the vids!

Rittenhouse Rye is great for cocktails and even sipping.. also very reasonably priced! My personal favorite Rye (on the nicer side) is Kings County Distillery’s Empire Rye which really made me fall in love with Rye and they even do a more limited run of Bottled in Bond Empire Rye which is pretty unique. King’s County also makes my favorite Bourbon their Bottled in Bond Bourbon as well as my go to bourbon… their Straight Bourbon. All have won numerous awards and the guy who started the company is so cool a really just loves making dope whiskey. I still want to send you some bottles but I’m having to look a little harder to find any of the Empire Rye as it has apparently sold out.. perhaps you’ll get one of my bottles.🤷🏻‍♂️🥃cheers!

I've gone through many bottles of rye and found that some are better for mixing, some are better straight, and some do both well. For mixing I like Old Overholt Bottled In Bond 100 proof, it makes an excellent Manhattan. Other good ones are the 80 proof Old Overholt, Rittenhouse Bottled In Bond and Redemption. For drinking straight I like Bulleit, Old Forester, Redwood Empire Emerald Giant Rye and Templeton Barrel Strength. Knob Creek, James E. Pepper, Puckett's Branch, Sazerac and Woodford Reserve ryes were good either way. I don't think I've had Michter's but I hear it's a good one. Whistle Pig is supposed to be excellent but a bit pricey; it may be best straight. Happy Hunting! Maybe round some up and have a few folks for a tasting?

Enjoyed this video. I would love to make a few recommendations. For a rye that will create a more bold, flavorful cocktail, I's recommend Rittenhouse Bottled in Bond Rye (100 proof),. It is my personal favorite low cost rye. Its flavor exceeds what you'd expect for such low price. I would recommend Yzaguirre Reserva Vermouth a Spanish brand that has a lovely sweetness tempered with herbal notes.

I would love to tell you how I make it. But I don’t make it. Nor have I tried it. That’s about to change. The only part of that drink currently at my house is absinthe. I have some shopping to do. Thanks for another great video.

I'm a lover of rye, but my first introduction to a whiskey drink was the Monte Carlo, not the Old Fashioned. Frankly, I appreciate it more, a little more refined I think, but for a slosh like me, a lot more expensive. You've got rye, Benedictine and bitters, give it a try..!

Since the cocktail originated in New Orleans my guess is that they mean 30-60 based on the size of glass that's available
