La Louisiane - 2 ways to enjoy a whiskey classic

Here are 2 ways to enjoy a classic whiskey cocktail from New Orleans - La Louisiane! In the same family of cocktails as the Sazerac and the Vieux Carré, this is a whiskey sipper that can be adjusted to your tastes. First, I'll show you the classic specs - a smaller, sweeter cocktail that is perfect as an after-dinner drink. Then, I'll make a stronger, spicier version using the ratios I've come to love. I don't think there's a bad way to enjoy this one. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do! Cheers!

I really like that Az is incorporated and an "unbiased" or maybe "less expirenced" palet. Usually her face reaction is better than any words to describe the cocktail! P.S. it is 2022... we all done the not change our cloths for at least a week thing

I can Absolutely say you have inspired me to get on a classic cocktail journey. This one is a must try. The original was made the same year my pops was born. So that adds another element of intrigue knowing this was a cocktail of that era. Also my great grandfather came in from Ireland and help do some construction in New Orleans. Cheers from Texas.

I found your channel several months ago and have fallen for your teaching of how to make many of your classic cocktails but even better is your “improved “ versions such as this one. I have moved on from the Manhattan and my previous go-to, the old fashioned and have fallen in love with the revised La Louisiane! This, to me, is the perfect cocktail! Perfectly balanced. Even that little element of lemon at the end is crucial! Drinking these at happy hour all week to celebrate Duke going to Final 4 in New Orleans! Side note- found out by accident that my neighbor here in Wake Forest NC is related to Az and relayed stories of you making cocktails at a relatives wedding in So Cal! Small world!

First, let me say that this is my favorite KZread channel, and I have been recommending you to all of my cocktail loving friends. Saw this Friday and was intrigued, as I'm a huge fan of Sazerac and Vieux Carre. Have since made a few versions of the Updated recipe, and I've found that reducing the Benedictine to 1/2 oz is more to my taste. I love Benedictine, but it can overpower a cocktail IMHO. Also, I slightly prefer a less complex vermouth - Dolin or Carpano Classico. Again, I love Cocchi, but it can also dominate the cocktail. I want the rye and the absinthe/herbsaint to come through. Thanks for introducing me to a third cocktail in the NOLA family.

I come from a household that has specialized in making Sazeracs for friends and family for years. I've made both versions of La Louisiane now and I have to say that the original really surprised me at how much smoother and sweeter it is compared to the Sazerac. The updated version takes the cake as both I and the other half from NOLA enjoy it the most! Thanks for sharing this drink and it's history with everyone. I've yet to try it at the Carousel Bar, but I'm sure I've had a top tier version of it at home. Cheers!

Getting read to host a Mardi Gras cocktail hour, and just did a side-by-side of all 3 of these Louisiana cocktails, Anders style. Man. They are all so good. But I think just because of the vermouth I had on hand, this one was the winner, and what I will serve for guests when they come over. The Sazerac was almost the winner here, but something about this one... Mmmm. Yes.

I had to make this with a high rye bourbon (1792) since my rye was located elsewhere, brothers!, and it was still incredibly rich. I can’t wait to try it with rye when and if my brother makes restitution!

Love the idea of this recipe, two of my favorite drinks inspired into one. Use to live around the corner from Ward 8. Miss being close by. Your channel really helps keep me close. Cheers

Anders thank you for a wonderful new video, now I need to go buy some Benedictine ;). I will have to say Az is, as always, the best part. It is great to have her opinion, it ads a sense of relatability to the whole experience. Not to mention that I have loved every drink she really liked :D. Thanks again for your wonderful content.

Magnificent episode. I had fixed myself a booze version similar to your specs Anders, but I never heard of the original, much less tried one. Definitely having my first tonight as a digestif. Laissez les bon temps rouler!

So I just tried both versions, and tasted the original first. I really liked it. A bit on the sweet side, but very pleasant and tasty. I enjoyed it. 😊 But when I tried YOUR VERSION... DANG!!! You leveled it up, Anders! SO GOOD! In my opinion, an excellent tweak! Kudos to you! Cheers from Manila, 🇵🇭! 🥂

I live in Louisiana, not very far from New Orleans, and I've never heard of this cocktail! Gonna have to find a place to get one soon!

Wow, I made the original recipe and was equally blown away. Talk about being greater than the sum of its parts - for a cocktail with such individually overpowering ingredients, it somehow transforms into something completely new and unrecognizable. Thanks for bringing attention to this one!

Oh man. This is indeed the perfect marriage of Vieux Carré and Sazerac. I love this a lot! I had a small atomizer bottle from the DAYS OF HAND SANITIZER MADNESS that had never been deployed, so it was perfect for spritzing the absinthe. Also, after finally doctoring the rye bottle to finally say Ritt-----SE (RITZY BABY!) with a sharpie, the room really tied together. And you are spot-on about the lemon oil. Absolutely perfect. I'll give the original a go when I find a stemmed thimble. :)
