This is a nice smooth running direct drive. Some of them can sound very clunky, but this doesn't. I saw the video with the insulation and the pads inside of the cabinet. I guess it really does make a difference.

I think it helps, but I know that noise you are referring to. The 96 machine has that clunky sound and I have insulated the entire cabinet. So Idk...

More water the better! The new dispenser looks super clean, I definitely prefer it to the blue one. Looking good!

You know, I've re-habituated myself to the sound of the VMW machine that I have. Then I watch one of these videos and I'm like holy sh*t, I forgot how much smoother these DD's sounded in comparison. I actually think the DD's are probably objectively louder, but they're easier on the ears than the VMW's, because the motors on the DD's run continuously and don't pulse over and over. Not sure if that makes sense.

Agreed. Only thing is not all DD’s sound the same. This machine sounds perfect.

@@MatthewJames-st5wv I know exactly what you mean. Every single DD I've ever heard in my life sounds just a bit different from one another. I saw in another comment, you stated that your '96 machines sounds clunky compared to this. I'll have to go back and see if I notice. I will say that the only thing that would make this machine sound absolutely perfect would be an old-style drain pump, but maybe they don't work with the catalyst.

@@MatthewJames-st5wv Well the machine rinses so well already, it’s not like a Samsung that needs 4 rinses to even extract half the soap out of the clothes!!! :D

You know, Matt it’s kind of weird. It seems like the whirlpool commercial I have has cleaner rinsing. I often run 2 rinses if I have too much foam in the first rinse on the Whirlpool Gold. I just think it’s the torque of the agitation. By the way I like the gray collar these had on the top of the line units. It covers the gap nicely between the top and the tub ring.

I'll have to check that out. But you would know because you have a VMW, I do not. The DD's might just stir things up a little differently? That's the splash guard. There is another one around the outer tub piece that is beige. They really thought this design out.

Does this washer have the extra rinse option? I don't want to look at the control panel for myself, but in case it does can i see every cycle with that option selected, in alphabetical order, and then again in top-to-bottom-on-the-panel order?

It does have the extra rinse. You select it by pressing "Rinse/Spin" if you just select "Spin" it will add an extended spin to any cycle. I like it.

Exactly. To be honest, I prefer the layout on the Kenmore Catalyst. I miss seeing "Fast/Fast, Slow/Fast". I think Kenmore was popular than Whirlpool's own design lol.

@@MatthewJames-st5wv Yep I agree. The kenmore control panels looked much cleaner. Indeed they were! The DAA originated from the kenmore machines in the late 70’s, and only later did it find it’s way into the whirlpool DD machines. It seems kenmore was the luxury brand.

@@MatthewJames-st5wvI forgot that these Whirlpool machines had an extended spin option. As far as I know, the Kenmore variant does not have the ability to extend the spin, as you can only add an extra rinse. However the Kenmore version has a more selectable wash time, varying in two minute increments from 4 to 18 minutes.
