    It’s so perfect in this machine with the white tub. Don’t get why they stopped making them in turquoise. It’s just so eye catching and makes for a more interesting experience. And the performance is excellent! Same results from a regular dual action on the Hi speed, but more gentle!

    Keep rebuilding and restoring this machine. You'll be more than glad you did. No other washers made today will clean as well as washers of this era.

    The question i would ask is Did KitchenAid with the bigger agitator wear the transmissions more than the regualr base agitators ? I guess at the slower speed it should be safe for the transmission.

  • @MatthewJames-st5wv

    @MatthewJames-st5wv

    Ай бұрын

    I wondered that too. Did the KitchenAid’s spin as fast as Whirlpool or Kenmore models? I’m not sure. To help prevent where on the transmission and other components I will only use it on medium or slow agitation. I also won’t leave it in here all the time

    @@MatthewJames-st5wv KAs are WP direct-drives. The transmission and basket drive are identical, same gears and agitation stroke arc, same spin RPM for a given motor speed.

    So apparently the KA had a bigger or little more powerful motor I read in a thread, who knows if that’s true or not but I’d imagine it had to be true so it could handle this agitator better. Also the kitchenaid motors sounded completely different than the rest of the dd’s so it’s safe to say they definitely had a different motor. Not sure if they had a more heavy duty trans or not. Some other things were more enhanced like the suspension so the tub wouldn’t wobble side to side during agitation but can’t find the thread I read that in yesterday now for the life of me, and my history refuses to show it 🙄 But the KA models spun at the same HI speed the rest of the DD’s spin. The only difference is that they never agitated on the highest speed the motor could run. They agitated at medium and low speed compared to the regular models. Only drained and spun at HI speed if selected on a cycle for hi spin otherwise it would of been the regular low spin like on delicates or whatnot.

    @@Goldenwoodz KA motors are rated 1/2 HP, 9.8 amps, same as other direct-drives. The "Gold Seal" motors (a marketing term that harkens back to Hobart KitchenAid dishwashers) have heftier motor windings which calls for a stronger capacitor. Early KA washers (1987 and partially into 1988) didn't have dual-action agitators and were 2-speed. The first models equipped with dual-action were also 2-speed and didn't have the larger agitator. A few lower-end models after introduction of the larger agitator weren't 3-speed and possibly had a standard-size agitator, or they had the larger agitator with a 2-speed motor and ran agitation at low motor speed on all cycles. I've disassembled/worked on KA, WP, KM, and Roper direct-drives. I've not seen any difference in the tub suspension, from one to another other than that the motor counterbalance spring at the back varies in strength according to the weight of the motor ... 1-speed, 2-speed, 3-speed, etc. For reference, agitation at the three motor speeds: 1725 RPM = 180 spm, 1140 RPM = 120 spm, 850 RPM = 90 spm.

    The angle is that the larger agitator allows for reducing the motor (agitation) speed for 120 spm at "high" and 90 spm at "low"), not that the agitator can't physically handle 180 spm that runs at full motor speed on other direct-drive machines.
