Shortly after starting to paint in watercolor I lucked into a bonanza that has spoiled for real life and budgetary considerations. I'd been very briefly working w/a set of Marie's watercolors that are actually not so bad but do, I think, lack transparency. I wandered into a thrift shop where in the past I'd found very usable frames and saw an "Art Bin" box marked $15. I knew that couldn't possibly be the price of the bin so I opened it and found-Eureka!-it to be full of Schmincke watercolor tubes, mostly but not all, started, liquid watercolors and some items of gear plus a couple of not very good brushes I use for scrubbing. Several of the started tubes had dried so I just cut them open, scraped the paint into pans and re-wet it for use. It doesn't re-wet as easily as some paints I've since used but I'll deal w/it. I may never be able to afford to re-equip myself with so many Schmincke watercolors and I love them.

I am obsessed with the colorful squares that are in the photo that is used in the listing of your video. I have tried to find a video of you making those fabulous colorful squares but I have not been successful. Are you using a wet-on-wet technique or a glazing. I apologize that I have to bother you to ask but I cannot tell. I want to make a couple of postcards for spring that look like your squares. I feel like you could turn that into a throw pillow or even a duvet. It is so fun!!

Glad you like it! I'm pretty sure there was no technique here as I am really lazy when it comes to that, just putting down color and mixing as I go, so probably mostly wet on wet

HEY Renea! I haven't tried their newest release only because I have switched to vegan friendly brand and unfortunately White Nights aren't. I do love the selection I have and will continue to use them. They are my top recommendation for artist paint on a budget (but it's not even the price, they are just lovely). I think I did pick up ultramarine violet (I think those came out in 2018?maune 2017) and you're right, it's a lovely color 💜💜💜

@@iritlandgraf i do not understand how honey can be made some scapegoat by vegans as nothing is killed and its 100% natural and insects can hardly be classified as animals... Its way over the top just like cobalts and cadmiums that give the vegans and environmentalists the fits as the modern day cobalts and cadmiums levels of toxicity is vertially non existing... Its the same as natural hair brushes. Rather use the brushes and the poor little pests did not die in vain and they had a been useful. And most Kolinsky Sable is from years ago as there's not many of them actually left and they may not be killed anymore as they're critically endangered... I'm not going to suddenly throw my Kolinsky Sable brushes away that i got as gifts in the 1980's and 1990's. But each to its own.

@@hmichael228 wow no need for getting upset, we can discuss these issues politely and respectfully. Honey is an issue for vegans because it is taking away from the bees their food. Vegans don't think animals exist here for us to consume or exploit. Some bees are killed in the harvesting process. Queens have their wings clipped and shipped that way. It might not be an issue that bothers you, but some of us prefer to support other industries instead. There are plenty of replacements, honey is certainly not a necessity. I agree I don't see insects the same way I see other animals (like cows, pigs, chickens) but I still wouldn't harm them intentionally. Those are my reasons, agree or not, at least treat other people's choices with respect, that's what I try to do. As for using animal products in my posession, I've said before I use what I have and enjoy it, the damage is done, no reason to throw them and waste them. No one said you shouldn't use yours. As for the industry, no industry that exploits animals is cruelty free, so I try to avoid supporting them when possible, to be on the safe side.

Irit Landgraf while the previous poster was... intense... if not for farming, honey bees would genuinely be extinct by now. So if everyone followed your ideas, it would actually kill them. Everything else is up for discussion though. Queens have their wings clipped so they don’t swarm. Swarms literally cannot survive in the wild due to the verro mites, so while it sucks, it’s saving their lives. A similar thought process is: getting your cat spayed or neutered. Also, if honey bees don’t get their honey harvested, they will “outgrow” their hives, and swarm. A responsible bee owner must add boxes or remove honey. One of the two.

Loved this video! I have way too many sets of watercolor paints from Prima, to Qor, to Mission Gold, Sennelier botanical, Altenew, and more. I would love to narrow it all down to maybe 16-20 colors I can use all the time instead of digging for different sets in my drawer. I find some brands of paint work better than others for a various types of painting but I would love to whittle down my collection. Have a beautiful trip!!! But lately using more yellow and orange as well... Never painted landscapes only seascapes and portraits and abstracts but after more than 35 years im falling in love with landscapes...

Thanks for this video, amazingly useful. The manganese blue hue is made of phthalo blue pb15 though not sure how they made it look so light without adding white...weird! The helio turquoise is also a phthalo pigment (i also try to avoid the phthalos but the hues they have are almost a must to have it seems, good thing is than an small pan or a 5 ml of almost every brand would do the trick) .Cheers.

Thanks for sharing, we use almost all the same pigments, I do the same I look for colors that cannot reproduce by mixing and cobalt violet I completely holbein cblight is my all-time fave they use pv47 but super expensive so I go with winsor and Newton and pwc makes a good one very similar hue but it's more streaky with the washes so their is a learning curve to using it. I love my cobalt teals I have many brands of these as I'm super picky too I have the d/s pg50 but also the cobalt turquoise light. I find it hard to get my exact hue that I look for. ds quin rose and coral all time staples here, my yellows py154 is my fav but for lemon I replaced with py110 or 109 I'd have to check. I thought I'd use thalo blue and green all the time and I never touch them either I prefer an ultramarine or cobalt. Great video enjoyed the pigment chats very much thank you girl! P's. D/s rich green gold I mix my greens but if I chose more I'd add 1 sap and 1 olive and moonglow and senneliers paynes grey are my xtras lol
