Which Van Is Right For YOU? | Van Life | Solo Female Traveler | Ram ProMaster

One of the most important decisions you can make when pursuing van life is deciding which cargo van you want as your home on wheels.
In this video, I share why I chose the Ram ProMaster over other makes and models. Also, I provide insight into two other common options in the van life community, which is the Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit.
Tune in to my next video where I officially kick off my van build series by telling you why I am doing the build myself.

Thanks for sharing, I'm looking at vans now. Unfortunately, there aren't too many options out at the moment. Of course my reasons for a van are for being able to lock up my ebike and to be able to go to further locations to ride.

I was watching when you was installing the windows at the windows. 432 years now, you cut that bead a little bit longer down in there. There's just a estimated be cut to be a little bit longer next time. And keep your tip straight to the body and go around. Start at the bottom, hanging up-and-over and back down to the bottom. Never start at the sides of the top. Because if there's any air gas, any holes in between what you started, then it's gonna leak right there, and you can use a paddle knife or putty knife or something and going along. Spread the sides to make sure they're sealed. Where you made those gaps where you started and stopped.

The promaster high roof is what we are going to go with also. I think we are holding out for a used low milage 159 extended. if I was going to buy brand new I would order the SUPER high roof since i'm 6'4.

Don't know if it was the case wen you made the video, but one thing that can be had is that it have the option for an electric version of the Ford Transit, if it can interested some people. BTW, I really like your video and I'll follow your video that I found very informative and interesting to watch! Wishing you a nice building adventure!

A lot of research and great information here! Just subscribed. Looking forward to following the build. Any suggestions on places to rent something that’s already built out for like a week or two weeks? Thanks in advance :-)

Thank you for your support! I have heard of RV Share for private rentals, Road Surfer Rent, Outdoorsy, Escape Campervans and more. You may also be able to find a local in your area that rents them out as a business. Personally I have never used any of these options but are ones I have looked at before. Hope that helps😁

Hi Lauren, with your van purchase, how did you decide what package options to take? When I try to build my order online, I get very confused between packages offered and am afraid of paying twice to get the same option. Would you consider putting out a video that shows what you ordered and why you included each item that wasn't standard - you're so very good at the reasons behind your choices!

Hi John! Thanks for your comment. I LOVE this idea for a video and appreciate that you value my reasoning. The website can be overwhelming at first but after I stared at it for days I started to grasped the information. Anything that has a red checkmark already comes standard with the van. Anything with a gray plus sign can be added at an additional cost which is listed below the description. I added the blind spot detection feature and LOVE IT AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT! Which meant you need to also put for the wide mirrors in order to get this feature which are also great. I paid for them to install the rear windows which I could have installed on my own but it was more cost effective at the time to have them install it. I was originally planning on installing t-vent window on my sliding door so I didn’t have them install that window but of course I changed my mind after I got the van and installed a solid window instead. So if I knew that then I would have had them install it (although installing one yourself is doable and easy like I did). I also was planning on have a permanent partitioner behind my driver and passenger seat so I didn’t pay extra for a swivel seat. But again I changed my mind and have decided not to install a partitioner so I installed my own swivel seat on the passenger side (knowing that now I would have paid for them to install one especially because the aftermarket ones aren’t as smooth and nice). And I got additional keys. Looking back knowing what I know and being better financially than I was then I would have added a few other features but nothing that is make or break. I spent a lot of time on the phone with the dealer going thorough every option to make sure I fully understood what it was for and I’d recommend you do the same. Everyone’s wants and needs are different so just do what makes most sense for you. I know this was long winded but I hope it helped. Let me know if you have any other questions😊

Not long winded at all; just right and see now you have the outline for the video on how to order a Promaster Van! 😁(Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you; I didn’t get a notification that you responded and only came here today because I was notified someone liked my comment. Thanks again for the great reply!)

Im happy you choose the van you think perfect for you not being a cookie cutter , 😮 for me i like rear wheel drive i didn't like that all components are mated together meaning engine , transmission and front wheel drive all mated together plus al, you see underneath van is a bar holding wheels on but i do like the face on promaster , just know Mercedes Benz is Germany everyday vehicles been around sense February 1925 the sprintef began 1995 they are very well built to handle all most any condition but here in usa weput Mercedes Benz on the upper level while in other countries not , i do feel Mercedes is the better buy for me but i never buy new i tell anyone this before you buy any vehicle, go to copart auto salvage auctions in search bar type in the vehicle you like to buy and look at them wrecked this tells the real story how well the vehicle built , will it be a rust bucket in future, ect ect , i went on you tube to see how well Mercedes Benz sprinter are built. Wow very well built and on copart lot of amazon sprinter vans for many reasons now because Amazon going electric anyway im happy you are happy with your purchase 😊

The problem with rear wheel drive is that it's like driving a pickup truck as far as traction in snow or even rain on roads, with the empty light box over the rear wheels. I chose the same van after finding one with the best options package. I also have a pickup truck and drove them for many years and usually add 300 lbs of sandbags in the bed over the wheels for Winter driving, it is also a 4wd, after having a 2WD pickup truck and too many traction problems. When I looked at Ford vans the AWD option was another $10,000. It's an important consideration, if not adding the weight of a full build.
