It's 3:30am, I'm about to catch a plane, and my sleep deprived brain wanted to answer 'a hot dog'. The klaxon would likely wake me up
I thought "spit dog" was going to be something else entirely.
Anyone else think we should bring back the Spit Dog - just to give it a better life this time???

Like I said- there's a specimen in a museum, and they can sequence dna from the fur at least. I'd like one, TBH.

No. There are plenty of current breeds in trouble now. Let's help them survive.
Well there's no way to ask that question without starting a fight. Not in the kebab shop, anyhow.

I asked that question (sort of) in Korea about 10,000 yeas ago in the navy. Was eating a sort of 'sampler platter'- and came across meat I didn't recognize. Taste, texture- none of it was familiar. So, I asked the kindly elderly couple what it was. "Dog." To my credit, I finished my meal, dog meat and all, paid, then went back to base and ate salads for a month.
Corgis-they're delicious with a little onion and chili sauce.
So not only a job type lost to automation, but also an entire variety of dog as well.
These dogs had been mentioned in a previous episode of QI as well; I don’t remember which one.
I was worried when they say bred a dog that it was a dog used as meat in the kebabs back in the day, very happy to be wrong
Ah the late great Victoria Wood She was a vegetarian if you didn’t know 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bob Carolgees has a dog called Spit. Since the 1970s...
I was going to say Cornus otherwise known as dogwood. It gets its name because the wood is thin and hard with no taste. The dog is the wood used to skewer meat. I could be wrong
Never seen a dog try to make a kebab.

I can get a dog to make one. You wouldn't want to eat it, tho. 😁
There's a museum specimen.. with *fur* Fur has DNA.. A mad (rich) scientist could bring 'em back as pets, and make a fortune. I'd want one.
True story; I grew up in Athens Greece where there are hundreds of gyro places and one particular one used to have a sign above the rotisserie that had a picture of the owner with a thought bubble above him with a cat and a dog in it and another bubble next to it with meat in it. The caption under the bubbles translated to "The thought became action" basically implying that he made the food using cats and dogs. Now this was clearly the owner's idea off a joke because the food was obviously mostly pork as usual but you have to have a lot of confidence in your food to think you can get away with joking to incoming customers that they are about to be served kitten and expect them to come back. And unfortunately I will say that the confidence is unfounded because from the one time I ate there... It wasn't terrible but it wasn't good enough to ignore the bizarre sense of humor, especially when there are literally dozens of choices in whatever area you live in.
One of the best advertising pranks I ever saw was many years ago in the window of a butchers shop in London. The m😅vie Watership Down had just been released and the sign in the window read, “ You’ve read the book, you’ve seen the movie, Now! eat the cast! It was placed next to a row of beautifully cleaned rabbit carcasses. I thought it was great. The rabbit was good too.

"Sheep dog" Obviously a genetically modified food.
Any dog in Lychee, China.
I knew of that there were dogs used for turning the roast, but I'd no idea there was a specific breed that became extinct. I can't get over that they were used as foot warmers in church though 😮😂
Is a "sausage dog" the same as a "wiener dog" ( _i.e.:_ dachshund)?

And Badger dog, Doxie, all synonyms.
A hamster in a ferris wheel... That's a bl**dy big hamster...!!🤪
Victoria Wood was obviously a great comedy performer and writer, but she was a poor comedy panellist.

They didn't give her much time to shine. Severely edited clips. I demand closed captioning! 👩🦳

I loved Victoria Wood but I have to agree that panel shows were not her forte. I was in the audience when she appeared on I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue and that wasn't great either. Such a pity because her stand-up was absolutely superb - never laughed so much in my life.

She had quite a lot of mental health issues, writing ,and performing that script, in character, even as ‘ Victoria Wood’ she was comfortable with. Being naked and impromptu, clearly not her comfort zone. Rip.

She was an incredibly shy person, a genius and I adore her. The biography, ‘Let’s Do It’, written by Jasper Rees is a great read.
Jason Manford is just not funny.
Doner kebabs are unfortunately name for United States marketing, because it sounds exactly like the Donner Party: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donner_Party The Donner Party were delayed in their attempt to emigrate to California due to taking a relatively untried route called the Hastings Cutoff in 1846 and unfortunately decided to attempt to cross the Sierra Nevada mountains in winter, getting stuck for the winter of 1846-1847 by deep snows. Of the 87 members who reached the pass, 48 survived -- primarily by eating the other 39 (mostly after they had died from cold) and their two Native American guides (who they murdered specifically to eat). In the United States, the name Donner is basically synonymous with cannibalism even to this day. So, while you might want to eat a Doner kebab, you *definitely* would not want to eat a Donner kebab.

I hear you can get Donner kebabs, but they cost an arm and a leg. 💪🦵🍗
Um, Actually . . . they didn't walk around on the floor like Stephen implies, they had oversized hamster wheels linked up to the spit for them to walk in

Stephen said both. He first said they "walk around," keeping the meat turning, then contradicted himself saying they walked in a wheel.
