100% chance Matt got up off the floor and hugged at least two film crew members when recording was finished.

The past couple of years I’ve really gotten into Whiskey and slowly trying to figure out the subtle nuances in the taste and smell in each one and I’m so happy that Matt didn’t care one single bit about that and did it like a normal person and not a whiskey nerd

I drink a lot of whisky and I have never gotten the big "tasting notes" that liquor "experts" talk about. I can however taste the difference and identify them. I could blind taste test them and tell you what all the ones he tasted are but I'm not gonna tell you I'm getting burned orange peels and tobacco

We had a pet turkey when I was a kid. It was definitely a domestic turkey, it was white like a chicken or duck. The original plan was to have him for Thanksgiving dinner, but that didn't happen and he was our incredibly annoying and stupid pet for several years. He was super horny but had no idea what a female turkey looked like, so whenever someone came to our house, he would put on a display for them in case they were female turkeys. He was forever doomed to disappointment.

Sound vet similar to my Cornish hen. She was huge and would always flirt with our rooster who was very tiny. She also would walk into everything and was just not smart. But we loved her!

Fun fact - when the US government was classifying whiskeys, Jack Daniels was classified as a bourbon because it meets every other requirement for bourbon (at least 51% corn and aged in new charred oak barrels). Jack Daniel's protested and a new category for Tennessee Whiskey was created to include filtered through sugar maple charcoal. JD protected their classification so much that until recently there were only 2 brands of Tennessee whiskey (George Dickel being the other) until some smaller distillers won the legal right to be called Tennessee whiskey.

Well, I used to have a one legged, one winged, one eye'd turkey that I called Bob. He lived a happy life in the back garden until he passed away. Just couldn;t bring myself to eat Bob. So, back in the day, I drank plenty of Bourbon to mourn his passing while we cremated him. Hadn't intended to cremate him but after half a bottle of Japanese Bourbon it seemed like a good idea. Never liked the shed. The one that burned down after the cremation pile got out of control, after another third of a bottle of Japanese Bourbon. Never liked that fence either. There's a reason I don't drink any more.

I’ve been to all the big distillery tours in Kentucky and I love bourbon not a Jack Daniels fan. That being said Jack Daniels is the best tour hands down it was awesome. Now I appreciate Jack Single barrel barrel proof.

I really don't like bourbon, but the bourbon trail was fun.

Funny video. And great timing. If there was ever a year to do a bourbon ranking at home, 2020 was that year. Ironically almost the opposite of how I'd rank those bourbons, but that's all good, they're your taste buds, you can't be wrong about what you like.

LOL. But do NOT get confused. This is not "American", this is The South. Just as - I believe - parts of Great Britain have distinct cultures. Ireland, Scotland, Wales, etc. Indeed, as the channel indicates - "It's a SOUTHERN thing" Daniel, also keep in mind, for what it's worth, the VAST majority of Southerners are from Great Britain. A lot of us like this sort of thing - my ancestors come from Ireland & England, before "The Revolution".

When I was a kid we actually had a pet turkey that basically decided to live in our stables and we fed it. It had a gimpy leg so it just kind of stayed until one day it was gone.

Bulleit is by far my favorite. They’re facilities are a very interesting tour. However, if I’m mixing my bourbon for a hot toddy, etc. I usually go for Evan Williams, it a great all purpose and economical option. Kentucky has bourbon, a little bit of winter, and we can come down from Ohio and not get dirty looks for saying ma’am and sir.

Thanks Matt! I needed this very video to wind down before getting trashed tonight.

We had a pet Turkey. She was trained to the sound of the fly swatter-every time she heard it go whack, she’d run and eat the dead bugs.

As a Pittsburgh kid, I grew up learning about the Whiskey Rebellion in the early part of the country. Now you have challenged me to go back and research it wrt the kind of whiskey ( I always thought it was corn whiskey, if not 51% ) and the time period. I’m late to the party, but I had a pet turkey as a kid. He was a 4-H project and spent the rest of his life on the farm. He was very mean and liked to chase our goats. Love these videos.

That moment when you take off your shoes and settle in while drinking 😂. It has begun.

Interestingly, there are nine varieties of turkey, only about three of them being commercial/related to commercial turkeys. All the other varieties are "heritage" turkeys, which are commonly used as pets. I owned a small flock of royal palm turkeys, the smallest heritage variety, with a couple of jennies and a tom. Long story short, I'm a turkey fanatic and showed them in the county fair as a child in 4H when I lived in Idaho.

OP is correct. Source I have a degree in foodscience with a focus in Fermentation. Jack Daniels is Tennessee whiskey which is distinguished by the final step in the process which involves filtration of the distillate through Charcoal.

The moment that idea of "I should go back and try those again" i just couldn't not shake my head no lol I know where this is heading

Next time you do a taste test and it involves alcohol you should have water in between your samples. That will clear your pallet and also keep you hydrated so you won’t feel the effects of the alcohol as bad. But I do enjoy your show and I like your reviews.

You say you're not an expert, but that ranking is spot on. You might want to give Buffalo Trace a try when you sober up.

Matt this question is for your wife. Do you really think he should be drinking unsupervised ? 🤔

I had a pet turkey but she died about a year ago. We were pretty close and I really miss her. She would always bring me the news paper in the morning and sit with me on the front porch while I read the comics. I'm having a glass of Buffalo Trace bourbon in her memory right now. I miss you Victoria.

Glad to see someone reviewing bourbons and not using to leather, tobacco, or marzipan (what even is that???) to describe the taste. I generally agree with your rankings, except for Wild Turkey. The 101 is highly underrated, as long as you don't have more than a couple. You go past 2 (MAYBE 3) and that stuff will have you regretting your life's choices in a heartbeat. If you pull out a bottle of Makers or Bulleit around even the biggest bourbon snobs and they'll be at least okay. You can't do that with Beam or Jack. My biggest knock on Bulleit is that you can't type it in without autocorrect screwing up the spelling.

Legend has it he’s still drunk to this day.

I've had all of these bourbons. And I have to say, as far as I can tell, you got the ranking pretty dang close to right

I for sure agree. He has a similar palette with me, sipping around the house on a Wednesday is 5 Roses small batch. My treat yourself bourbon is Angels Envy.

Bless Your Rank is the best. I woud literally watch Matt rank anything southern. Lawn sprinklers, linen suits, even suspenders.

I've had Bourbons from all over and I got to tell you my favorite one is Belle Meade Sherry Cask bourbon aged 9 years in a Sherry cask. It is by far the best sip I have ever had! If you can get your hands on it get a bunch because it's worth it.

If it was aged in a sherry cask it’s not bourbon. By law bourbon is aged in a new charred white oak barrel for no less than 4 years

@sadhuskerfan7830 You're right. It is supposed to age and a new freshly charred white oak barrel for 4 years, but then they take that bourbon and let it mature in a sherry cask, for almost a decade, to develop deeper flavors so normally you'd be right, but in this case you are 1000% wrong!

For me: knob creek no. 9, Bulleit rye, and at times Jim all straight over the rocks. Kentucky brands only. Also EXCELLENT video. Salute.

Immediately after this video was filmed would have been a good time to film a "back porch bickering" episode. I normally drink a bourbon and coke when out at a bar, and luckily for me, and my wallet, I can't taste the difference when mixed with most brands. Drinking just bourbon has been a Maker's Mark choice but I'll try Bullet.
