For me definitely the neca one. The sculpt just looks the most like the movie to me and it is my favourite Batman figure that I own.

Did you get it when it was released or at least did you get it before it's current price? As much as I do like it, I don't think it's worth the current price on eBay. I actually got lucky and got mine in a trade from a great dude.

Dude, for $180 you shouldn't be afraid to basic pose the figure. Mezco dropped the ball. The SHF has the just as much accessories and you can pose it with ease. Likeness may not be there 100% but it's close enough. The cape is the only manor bummer of the SHF and putting the cape on the Mezco is a nightmare on its own. No way I would recommend the Mezco. EDIT: Also, in the long run the SHF and Neca will outlast the Mezco.

For me I actually like having the scale of the Neca and Mezco better because I do like putting them with other figures of the same scale. The Figuarts is just too small for doing that. And yeah that cape really isn't great for the Figuarts either. I think a lot of us are really interested to see how long the Mezco one lasts in general. If I had more disposable income I'd get a second to do experiments with haha!

the likeness is still an issue lmao. Scale is a big issue for a lot of people as well

all these figures have something that really gets in the way from me really liking them a whole lot. still waiting for the perfect keaton figure

Yeahhhhh I feel the same. The Mezco is the best of these three, but I don't know if it's THE definitive one for me either. Have you seen the Beast Kingdom one? I don't have it, but the pictures of it look great, but at 8 inches it's well outside of the scale of figures that I prefer to collect.

@@ComicallyToys yeah mezco so far is the better of the bunch, but actually doing anything with it makes me nervous. my opinion on the beast one is the materials they use on the clothed parts are way too thick for the scale they're going for but since i dont own one i cant really say a whole lot

Funny enough someone wanted to see the reverse as well! So maybe I'll cook up something soon and I'll let you know when I've done it!

I'd like to think if Neca got another shot, probably with the Return's suit, and possibly a Bruce Wayne, they'd knock it out of the park with the sculpt and accessories with the way ther do their ultimate figures. *Edit* sorry for the typos for those who read it before I edited. Lol.

Yeah I agree! I think they have come a long way since the first one so I'm sure it'd be a lot better in a release happening today. I think my biggest gripe really is just the cape. With a better cape it's a MUCH better figure for sure. If they do a Return's suit though I'll be a real happy camper.

@@ComicallyToys I gave my Neca version a better cape. All of the critiques you pointed out could easily be addressed nowadays. The articulation could be upgraded. He could be given different cowels with facial expressions. And honestly, we have alternatives with 3rd party Keaton heads. It's like the finish line is just around the corner.

Great comparison video. Something to keep in mind when/if the Mezco body will deteriorate on me and I'll need to put together a custom body for it.

Thank you! And yeah it'll be interesting to see how long it'll last. I'd be interested in doing an experiment, but at $180 bucks that'd be an expensive experiment for me haha, but otherwise I'd be interested to leave one out in the open air(and possibly with some direct sunlight) and compare it to one kept in a box after a year or longer. I ASSUME Mezco selected a material that should be long lasting, but I have no way to know for sure. Because I know for certain that some companies make some WEIRD decisions.

You think so? For me, I've always seen the suit/armor as very smooth. Kind of like plating. But the Mezco has a lot of bumps on it which is why I felt like the other two figures have more accurate textures. HOWEVER, the scene in the movie where he is pretending to be knocked out and the bad guys try to unmask him, his chest armor is DEFINITELY rubber stretched over the armor. So in that way I could see the Mezco being more accurate.

Someone in the comments mentioned that they actually will magnetize to the back of the belt, but I haven't tried it yet.

Very nice review!! If you want to knock down the gloss on the gloves and boots, simply use a matte clear coat spray. It won't take a lot of spraying to accomplish that. It will put everything back in line as far as the sheen goes. I know you're not necessarily a fan of the aerosol sprays, but if you are in a ventilated area and use a cardboard box as a backdrop, all should be good to go. I'd say that the Mezco head sculpt is the best, as is the paint on the head. His eyes are a bit too big--too wide-eyed for my taste, but you just know if I had one, I'd modify it. lol. I'm with you on the rubber on the Mezco figure. Even though I do enjoy the hobby of customizing my figures, it does suck that I would even have to after paying so much for a figure already. Mezco usually does a better job on things --Their CONAN figure is my favorite action figure of all-time!--but the movie Batman serves ups tons of problems for toy manufacturers. So many things have to work just right. The biggest disappointment with all three figures, I'd say, is the capes. I don't think that any of these capes are particularly great looking. Mezco is obviously the best of the three, but it's just too thick looking to me. Just too clunky. For the kind of money you've paid for this figure, I think Mezco should have found a better cape solution. At least the Mezco has the endoskeleton so you can get a seamless look. I understand why you're scared though rubber is not ideal. In regards to the Mezco figure: I don't know what kind of rubber it's made out of, but if it's in the latex rubber family, you might want to consider taking a paper towel sprinkled with corn starch to the rubber material of your Mezco body ever now and then. Maybe once or twice a year. Why? If it's that sort of rubber, the corn starch will absorb into the rubber, keeping it supple. You can wipe away the corn starch after you apply it, very easily with a paper towel or cloth rag. This will prevent aging and cracking of the latex rubber. That is IF it is a more latex rubber. I don't know if it is or not, but maybe you can tell? If it isn't, just leave it as is. Mezco is more pricey, and they always offer a lot of accessories, and that's part of what you pay for. Mezco often nails things with their figures, but they don't always. No company can do that. The '89 Batman as an action figure offers a lot of challenges for companies to overcome. I imagine this figure took a lot of pre-thought and engineering to give you the version you have. Is it good enough for the money? I think only time will give you that answer, Jack. As always, I agree with so much of what you've said! I don't have that Conan, but I just looked it up and it does look REALLY good so that would be an easy buy if I ever came across a good deal for one. As far as the rubber, I'd be money that you're spot on. The figure came with a light coating of some kind of powder already so I wouldn't be surprised at all if it isn't corn starch(or something chemically similar). I'm really interested in trying the rubber polish to really make it black the way it should be, but if I do that then I'll definitely remember to apply corn starch before boxing it back up. Amazing tip, man! And yeah, Mezco leaves me with no desire for more accessories so I'm definitely really happy with what they gave(relative to what I paid). I previously didn't quite "get" the interest in Mezco before but now between this and the Spider-man 2099 that was gifted to me, I really see the appeal. I don't especially care for Iron Fist, but that Mezco one looks REALLY good haha!

The Mezco one is absolutely an amazing figure! Did you pre-order it originally when it was announced or did you decide to get it more recently? I only decided to get it after The Flash movie trailer came out in February!

The NECA One is *SOOO* much better visually than the awkward 89 one McFarlane is doing. ⚡⚡ The McFarlane one does not look like Keaton, and has a weird neck. Looks like generic cosplayer

I think the McFarlane 89 one looks good, but it does not look better than the NECA by a long shot. At least the McFarlane one should be pretty accessible to most people which is I'm happy about. Though if NECA did a re-release or update their version then that thing would sell like CRAZY!

Great comparison. I have the Figuarts & Neca. Originally ordered the Mezco but cancelled as I'm in no way keen on the rubber over a metal skeleton body. Worried the rubber will degrade over time. Still I'm now curious how a Mezco head & cape could look on a Neca Body. Looks like they could make the perfect kit bash.

I'm definitely really interested in how long it'll last over time too! I definitely REALLY appreciate the innovation though, but I'll definitely be miffed if it starts falling apart in a few years... I'll see if I can take a picture of that for you, but I think the NECA has a neck so it may not be possible to do that without modifying. I'll confirm soon and let you know though!
