As an Athenian and a restaurant owner, I'd like to say that I've always admired the souvlakia from "Το χάνι του Σταύρου" in Perissos (just 100-200-ish meters from the ilektriko). I've tried souvlakia and whatnot from the most prominent places in Athens for over 20 years. I've had many friends visit me in my teen years for either a sleepover or just for whatever, we've ordered souvlakia and from that moment they cannot untaste them. They come for more every so often. The quality is consistent since I first moved to that area, so that's basically 20 years ago..
I have been told that this is one of the very first food establishments of it's kind in Monastiraki, by far the very best I agree!❤

We Greek's call them "Γεμιστα" or gemista. It means filled or stuffed. :)
I live in South Athens close by the seaside. One of the main reasons I go to downtown Athens (when I rarely go) is for the awesome Kebab at this place. I will confirm this place is THE BEST Kebab spot in Athens. In addition, they are not shy in giving good sized portions. You will get your money's worth folks 💯%

Yes, correct.....in the 70's the Greek government forbid ground meat souvlakia for fear it was something other than shall we say......"grown on a farm meat"......Cheers.
Kebap is an Athens thing , in Greece we eat Gyros - Souvlaki Etc

spot on, this is indeed the best kebab in Athens !! Kebab, fries, beer add some tirokafteri as well next time
One of the few places in Athens where you can actually order a grilled chilies with vinegar (kafteres piperjes) which are highly recommended if you enjoy spicy food. Perfect companion to the kebab along with some tzatziki and beer to balance the heat from the chilies. Top combo for the perfect kebab!

I live in Athens (but not Greek) and I am a foodie - Thanasis is indeed a great place...BUT sorry compared to the kebabs I had in Istambul, the Greek version is a bit the poor man's version of sorts. Try a good adana or sujuk kebab (and there are so many versions) and compare for yourself.
