How the hell did they get away with knocking the place down? They were the most famous recording studios in the whole of Ireland, the biggest Irish band ever - and the biggest band on earth - recorded so much stuff there. Windmill Lane in Dublin was like Abbey Road in London or The Power Station in New York, one hundred years from now when the cultural history of Ireland over previous centuries is written there will be a chapter on U2, and when mentioning the building in Dublin most associated with them there will be wording along the lines of: "the studios were a mecca for U2 fans from around the world to visit for decades, they would graffiti the walls and pavements - then someone decided to demolish the place and build an office building, throwing all that heritage and significance away."

@@Shing69 No problem, I've often found it amazing how things that are so culturally significant can be destroyed - it's like The Cavern club in Liverpool, famous obviously for The Beatles, was demolished to make way for an air ventilation system for the underground railway which passes under the area. The Cavern was then rebuilt 50 yards away and you can visit the new Cavern today. For some reason religious buildings are always given protection - if there was a church at that location, rather than The Cavern, they would have made alternative arrangements, it wouldn't have been demolished. I'm sure if where Windmill Lane studios stood there was a church instead, they would have kept that also. Another example is the famous Astoria music venue in central London, everyone played there - from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Nirvana, U2, and just about everyone else - they knocked it down 6 or 7 years ago to build the Crossrail project, the new railway in London. It's interesting that the church next to it, overlooking Soho Square, wasn't touched. I would say the Astoria was more of a significant building in the area, and in London's recent history, than that church was.

@@jeffoliver7491 Once money is involved it is always the same. Same thing happened at the Viking settlement in Wood quay Dublin. It was the biggest one discovered in Europe and they built offices on it.

100% this. How the hell did they get away with it? How hard would it have been to at least preserve that wall or a section of it as a monument to those times and events. I thought we Irish had a sense of history. Apparrently we're as short sighted as it gets.

Do you know anyone that has any of those stones from the building? I will buy one!!!! Did anyone bother to keep some of them with the graffiti??
