For anyone worried about Cow I found this in L-Space: In response to some questions from a child worried about the missing cow, Terry supplied the following answers. Is the cow lost? 'Not any more. She was found wandering and brought in to the Watch House by Corporal Nobbs.' Is the cow OK? 'Oh, yes. Some watchmen have fed her chips from the canteen, but she seems fine.' Is anyone looking after the cow if it is lost? (particularly worried about this one) 'Corporal Nobbs is very attached to the cow, and so are the other watchmen. They've clubbed together to buy her hay.' Where is the cow now? 'In the Watch stables, where she is spoiled rotten by the coppers. She gets milked twice a day and the coppers hope no-one ever claims her because the milk is so nice.' And if at all possible, what is the cow's name? (for it looks pretty on the picture) 'Mostly they call her Cow, because coppers aren't particularly good when it comes to names, but Corporal Nobbs calls her Maisie, after his old mum.'

That moment in the thud! book where he breaks into the dwarves Hideaway and screams where's my cow has it got to be one of my favorite moments of Discworld, love it.

I finished listening to Thud! just recently. My favourite moment too. That’s not my cow, it's a sheep with a pitchfork and it says quack.

Such a touching scene when we see Vimes reads to his son and his world goes all pink and fluffy.

Loved this book. I once got a laugh out of STP when I asked him at a Q&A if this was the first DW book where Death did not put in an appearance.

That was very sweet and also typical for dads - it's better to announce your arrival about five minutes before you come in if you don't want to see any toddlers in leather jackets, sunglasses and with painted on moustaches by accident. Or hear interesting versions of picture books. And he's right: reading this every night at 6 pm is very important. Fathers and Mothers both need a relationship and routine to build said relationship with their children. It's amazing how subtly Terry Pratchett managed to teach us so many things.

I thought you might enjoy learning that this reading is the cap to my son's night after I read him a couple of books each night. It has become our ritual. He is, as you can imagine, quite fond of the story and enjoys your version. So you have one very dedicated three year old enjoying your work.

I never thought of him as looking like Pete Postlethwaite. Now Vimes will always be played by Pete Postlethwaite in my head.
