Terry Pratchett's Discworld - Soul Music - Interview

Фильм және анимация

Soul Music is a seven-part animated television adaptation of the book of the same name by Terry Pratchett, produced by Cosgrove Hall, and first broadcast on 12 May 1997. It was the first film adaptation of an entire Discworld novel (following the Welcome to the Discworld short, which was based on a fragment of the novel Reaper Man). The series soundtrack was also released on CD, but the disc is now out of production. The soundtrack is, however, now available through iTunes. - Wikipedia

Thanks Lars, It's so good to know that there are weirdos like us all over the round world who loved Pterry's work and the man himself.

"Pretty good in a very limited way at what I do" - It keeps amazing me how humble Terry Pratchett was. I don't think any other person could pull off a sentence like that without sounding insincere.

No idea why I'm responding to a 9 year-old vid because no-one will ever see this. But yer man Pratchett was (in my opinion) probably the finest satirist in the English language since Jonathon Swift. He could tell me a story that was relatable and at the *exact* same time get me to re-examine my motivations and/or suppositions. Complete genius.

Oh my gosh, he was so right about the "tiny details" that the studio did. How he said his favorite part was a scene where the barkeep's nostrils flare. Those little tiny details in the voice acting and animation is one of the biggest things I was impressed by. The nuances of human expression, not skipped to save money or cut corners. Even with limited funds, those details make the animation so much more real and submersive

I've been reading Pratchett`s work since the early 90s & for many years in the States it was hard to find his work & now that you can find his books in just about any book store he was taken away from us! Miss him & his work, there will never be another.

Speaking just of merchandise, when I was in the UK, several years ago, I'm from Australia, one of the few things I brought back for myself was a set of hand painted resin book ends from ' Guards Guards ', that I have also seen as a play over here. A friend of my wifes who is even more of a Discworld nut than me croched/knitted me the entire Discworld, turtle, elephants, Disc, the lot, it's about the size of a foot ball. The best I could do was get one of those round things people paint pictures on but I did the Discworld as best I could & rounded up 4 resin elephants & a to scale plastic turtle.

well we are getting good omens so yay. my fear is that now he has passed there will not be the rigid control to do the books exactly as they should be done. Ohh we will just change this a tiny bit, oh that character may not be understood by X audience so change that, ect ect. To me there are so many examples of why the hell did you do that, that the prospect scares me.

@@SauronsLeftNut I understand your concern, I think the trick is to find a group of dedicated animators who deeply love the source material. Besides, adaptations are always bound to change something, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they change it for worse. I think they should have it a try and if it goes bad, well we'll always have the books anyway.

But I do believe his daughter knows enough about how her father would have liked it and also she has the same humor as he did so I think it would be in safe hands with her, heck she is a great writer so she could probably write it herself.

Nah it is probably decided by his daughter Rihanna. She has that same quirky sense if humor. She wrote the two Overlords games which is two games with the same kind of humor as the Discworld books.

I'm sure he is aware of how old they are but have you thought what Hayao Miyazaki would of done with a discworld story? it would of been the perfect combination in my mind. I have to say as well the animation of his books was very poor and low rent never did justice to his vision.

The classic screen writer screw up is the recent series 'The Watch', they let some idiot loose on it who managed to remove all of the essential 'Pratchett' from it and they also completely buggered up the characters and 'lost' some of the most important ones, while injecting the current Woke dogma just 'because'.
