    @Will M And how exactly do you know that, anon super-mind? That's right, you don't. It's entirely feasible that there are other planets like Earth in the universe, even if they are rare and the conditions have to be just right to support life; it doesn't even have to be "little green men" or people just like us; it can be something as simple as a prokaryote and still be an incredible and historic discovery. There has to be more life considering the sheer size of the observable universe. We don't even know if there may be more universes out there. You should be more optimistic about our future as a species.

    Imagine, Gallileo, sitting there, watching the moons of Jupiter. Now imagine going up to him and telling him that one day, man will send devices to these moons, take pictures, map out the surface/ subsurface and monitor the oceans and atmospheres that could possibly be harbouring alien life. Maybe even one day we'll go to them. In a time where even planes did not exist just imagine how far beyond belief this would be.

And it only took 5 days to do it"

  • @wallmethod

    Russell that’s basic scientific thinking? Why would you align your idea of what makes life with theirs? The Goldilocks zone is “life as we know it” not all biological creatures operates with same requirements as what the conditions of the Goldilocks zone provides... if you lock yourself in that idea and conclude that life is not “possible” in regions that deviate from the Goldilocks state? Then you’re not even a scientist to begin with... My point is... that it is possible for some lifeforms to exist even in conditions different from ours. You don’t know. These astronomers don’t know. But to clearly state that only in Goldilocks is where life could ever start is not a very scientific attitude

    Lambic Brew I have always had your exact thought in mind: if aliens exist, why couldn't they just exist under different conditions than us? Not that I'm a scientist myself of any kind, so I don't know if there is scientific explanation as to why that wouldn't be possible, but to me if life does exist outside our little planet it is (almost) certainly very different from what we may know it as.

    Of course scientist think of that, it's a posibility that alien life can come in forms that have nothing to do with life on earth... buuut, we have no evidence of that What we do have evidence for is that life can apear in earth like conditions, cause like... here we are. So, while life COULD take on forms completly diferent than life here, our chances of finding alien life are significantly better if we look at places with conditions similar to earth's, since we know for a fact life can develop on those conditions

    The ice moons Europa, Enceladus and Dionne are probably our best bets to find living things in the outer parts of our solar system. Ganymede, Titan and even Pluto are great candidates as well!

  • @EvieDoesYouTube
    @EvieDoesYouTube5 жыл бұрын

    I have high hopes of finding life on Europa or Enceladus but I think life on Pluto is very unlikely. As for Eris and Sedna, these tiny worlds are so far away from the Sun at aphelion - or from any other large gravitational bodies that might cause geological heating - that there's probably no activity of any kind on or in them. Their orbits are so eccentric that if any life did get a start on them at their closest approach to the Sun, then that life would have to hibernate for extremely long periods. Sedna in particular travels so far out from the Sun that it's in extreme deep freeze for many thousands of years at a time. Life there seems highly unlikely. Eris does have a moon, though, which could conceivably exert enough gravitational force to warm up Eris a little.

  • @araymond1able

    11:28 I was there, at a mission post at ESA-ESTEC, as a video editor, editing the live feeds for international news broadcasts. Nope, it was just a raw feed copied to tape, cut and broadcasted. No CGI editing. It was amazing to experience this event! There was a huge hall where parts of the ISS were stored. They are used to help fix problems on the actual ISS in case there are any issues.

    One thing I'm curious about with subsurface ocean life. The current idea of abiogenesis implies that organic compounds form with certain gases in the atmosphere and a sudden energetic burst, usually a lightning bolt. I'm curious as to how abiogenesis could occur without a proper atmosphere for gases or lightning.

    @Orion By what? Its "atmosphere" is so thin that any molecule in it will probably fall back to the surface or escape into space before colliding with another molecule in that "atmosphere." It's something called an exosphere, and it's too thin for any sort of liquid to be stable on the surface of the Moon. So, how do you defend this remarkable view of yourself? What sort of life could survive and be active in such an environment? Are you being cute and counting the dormant microbes that might have been left behind on spacecraft left there? Because that would really be stretching the definition of "inhabibited" to a trollish extent.
