Where Jesus Was Tempted In The Desert | The Holy Land | Season 2 - Episode 3

We know that surviving in the wilderness is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical struggle. The Bible shows this reality through countless stories, including the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years and Jesus retreating there for 40 days and nights. The key to both these stories comes from Matthew 4:4 when Jesus responds to satan saying: “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” So what exactly does that mean? Why did God allow His people to wander for so long before entering the Promised Land? And why did the Spirit lead Jesus into the wilderness to be alone?
Jack Beck will answer these questions amid the rock and rubble of the Judean Wilderness, but first we'll enjoy a plentiful bedouin feast complete with good music and generous friends. His gracious host, Adnan, shares how his family has passed down the secrets to survival from generation to generation. After experiencing the hospitality, safety, and comfort of an evening with friends, Jack gets up the next morning to venture out into the wilderness to experience the harsh conditions and landscape that Jesus experienced when the Spirit called Him into the desert. Jesus was alone, hungry, and exposed to the elements where the wilderness makes the rules. It was similar to the Israelites' time when Moses led them into wilderness, but with one major difference-they faltered and failed many times while Jesus remained steadfast.
Before we judge the Israelites too harshly as we read Scriptures from our easy chair, we need to understand that everything boils down to one question that God is asking each of us: "Do you trust me?" Watch and decide for yourself.

I went on a 3 day water fast 2 months ago. And my first thought was how Jesus survived for 40 days without both food and water. He could of turned anything into food or drink. Jesus trusted God to no end. Thank you God for your love, mercy, grace.

This message is profound. Jack has graphically demonstrated what the wilderness experience must have been for Jesus--the deprivation, the loneliness. Jack's given us a deeper sense of what Jesus endured for us. The cost of His obedience is sobering. Thank you Jesus. ❤✝️

It's beautiful how the very first thing he does after being baptized, is going to the wilderness the 40 days. I believe he redeemed Fallen Israel at that time. He redeemed the ones that wandered for 40 years by doing what they couldn't do, believe and trust in his father

I felt happy along with Jack Beck by the campfire with his hosts, all enjoying good food, good music, smiles and laughs. God bless them! Boy, anyone living out there has to be tough and experienced. What Jesus went through - I can't imagine anyone going hungry for 40 days! When I was a financially strapped (also cynical and snarky) 20-something, I only went hungry for a few days one time, and it felt like a nightmare. I did learn something from those few days: Compassion for others who are deprived of food, money, housing, warm clothes and companionship.

Thank you for yet another incredible teaching. It's one thing reading about the experiences Jesus and the Israelites went through in the desert - actually seeing a realistic situation is another. Just to think that back then there were no torches - complete darkness, the vast void, and absolute loneliness... It must have been terrifying! Trusting God is our only 'compass in the desert'.

Absolutely fascinating, even the cooking demonstration. The number forty is peculiar to Israel. The Lord Jesus, Moses, and Elijah spent 40 days and nights in the wilderness, two on a mountain. God protects the nation Israel in the end times, too, for it is written ".... And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent."

The "woman" of revelation already has been protected. That was referring to Jewish believers who escaped the destruction of Jerusalem - while the unbelieving Jews were the "Harlot" that was destroyed by the beast (Rome). This was the interpretation of the church for over 1,000 years until the late 19th century.

Jesus came to undo what the devil did! (I John 3:8) He is THE LAST ADAM! Satan tempted Eve with food, the beauty of it and the power of it: “ You can be like God! ‘’ The devil bent God’s word! And Jesus , when rebutting the devil in His weakest state after 40 days, correctly interpreted and used God the Father’s word! Adam was with Eve when she was tempted. Eve incorrectly added the “not touch “words to God’s word and Adam did not correct her. Maybe he also wanted to see how it would play out! They both did not quite BELIEVE God’s WORD:”You will SURELY die!” No one had seen death; what did death mean, they might wonder. Many Bible scholars think that Eve and Adam sinned when they actually picked the fruit (not necessarily an apple) and ate it. But the root of sin is DISBELIEF! Abraham BELIEVED God! God tested his belief! “Give your only son Issac to me” Abraham considered what God was doing during those few days of travelling to the place of sacrifice (probably the place of the cross or even the place where God killed an animal, a lamb?, and covered Adam and Eve with clothes made with lambs wool?). Abraham thought maybe, perhaps, God would raise Issac up from the dead even! (Hebrews 11:19) BINGO!!! That’s why Abraham was called God’s friend! (James 2:23) He shared God’s redemption plan! Abraham had his weaknesses, TRUE! But he TRUSTED God!!! So man shall live by faith!
