Psalm 23: Finding Safety in the Wilderness of Israel | The Holy Land | Season 2 - Episode 1
The wilderness is a place of hardship and danger. At first glance at the barren landscape, it looks impossible for people and animals to survive in it. Yet, as Jack Beck says, "It's not about what you don't have, but what you do." We'll look at two "characters" that appear regularly in the Bible-wilderness and shepherds-and answer these questions: How could David survive in this desperate land and even find comfort enough to write Psalm 23? Why is Jesus called the Good Shepherd? And how do we find what we need when we experience times of desperation?
In the season 2 opener, Jack Beck invites a friend, Dr. Con Campbell, to the Wadi Qelt in the Judean Wilderness to show the harshness of this tough environment. Standing atop a mountain between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, they ponder the role of shepherds to their sheep. From the nomadic shepherds to Jesus, who identifies Himself as the Good Shepherd in John 10:11, we see the role of the shepherd is to protect, sustain, and comfort his flock. And for those who treasure the popular Psalm 23 passage, you'll come to an even richer understanding of these meaningful verses. Then we'll meet, Khalid, a goat and sheep herder whose family has been herding for generations. And while the animals are interesting to watch, we definitely learn the deeper meaning of the great responsibility of the shepherd to protect his sheep, as well as the trust it takes for them to depend on him for their very lives.
Join us as we learn that the key to survival in this wilderness, and in your own personal times of wilderness, is who you put your trust in.

I recently came back to Christianity after many years away. I read psalm 23 yesterday, and out of the clear blue I was streaming tears. I couldn’t explain it. I realized in that moment God had been with me all along even when I cursed Him and rejected Him, He accepted me and He forgave me, and He laid down His life for mine. Indescribable.

Bible is about jesus The Old Testament shows us the spirit of Jesus. When you read the psalms see Jesus in them. We were not the ones in the bible or our sufferings or a prophets sufferings that are declared in the bible. Its all Jesus. But dint believe my words believe Jesus's own words. John 5:39 (KJV) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Luke 24: 25 ¶ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: 26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory? 27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 32 ¶ And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures? 44 ¶ And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. 45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 ¶ And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day Acts 2: 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 22 ¶ Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: 23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: 27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. 28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. 29 ¶ Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses. 33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear. 34 ¶ For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool. 36 ¶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Acts 28:23 (KJV) And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into [his] lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and [out of] the prophets, from morning till evening. Now read psalm 23 and hear what Jesus felt

I am so pleased with this biblical information about this lovely place the judean wilderness, the Lord is so wonderful all the time. Like Dr. Beck said in the Lord we lack nothing Amen. Thank you daily bread.
So majestic 🇮🇱🎚🇺🇸 Descendent of David
Thank you, Lord, for being my shepherd....with you I have everything 🙏😇 wonderful presentation 👏
When I was in high school (a long time ago) we had to take aptitude tests to see what line of work we should do. Mine (I'm female by the way) was military or shepherd! In the US! Who gets told they should be a shepherd!? Now, hearing how it relaxes you and there is no noise, I wonder if I should have taken it up?
Spectacular. Lord's work is supernatural
It is a miracle that people can live in environment like that. God shows His power to sustain Israel. God keep your promises towards me and my relatives.
Thank you Jesus! Bless you Jack

🤔💭 I was very intrigued to learn not long ago that, as opposed to Western shepherds who drive their sheep from behind the flock, Eastern shepherds lead their sheep by walking out in front of the flock.... What a glorious image to dwell on, as our Shepherd doesn't drive us forward by motivations of fear, but instead beckons us to follow Him out of trust, on the path He's already trod before us. 💯
Wow, I can say with a new understanding the words "the Lord is MY shepherd". Thank you for this incredible video & beautiful message. What a way to start my morning!

Beautiful. Simply amazing. Goat music is relaxation, never thought of that. Does the shepherd separate his flocks as Jesus will do one day? "... When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left..."

That's awesome Joe! We're glad to hear it.
You cannot imagine how deep in the wilderness I can lose myself. I'm so grateful for your teachings. When my soul becomes thirsty, as it often does, I find I keep returning to your videos, and there's always a new message for me. In fact, for years, I was led to believe that what was meant by, [But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you,] was that this is all that I have for you, be happy with it, don't be greedy. But when we read on in the verse (II Cor.12:9) ...for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.] we understand that it's the complete opposite - God's grace is abundant... enough for everyone and it never runs out. How awesome a revelation! In other words, "enough" does not mean 'that's all you'll get - no more, but there is more - enough for you, again and again! It's a waterfall!!!
I was pretty amazed at the well, in the middle of the deserted nowhere; freshwater, nice.
Amen - Hallelu-Yah

Beautiful. You are my good shepherd Lord, I shall not want. I am blessed again for this message.

Sure no problem,
How do we know that 2,000 years ago the landscape was exactly the same?
David said that he had killed a lion and a bear while he shepherd the sheep.
Do they know what that means they are the wilderness
