Where I live in Wales. Dinbych/Denbigh #Wales
A lot of my subscribers ask me where in Wales I live and what it's like, so I've put together this video. A short tour of my hometown of Dinbych, also known as Denbigh.
Hope you like it.

Nice place your hometown. Must stop by on my way to Snowdonia (hopefully next year)!
Really enjoyed this video. I was born and raised in Denbigh until 1972 when I left to embark on my career. Having lost both my parents by 1980 my connection with Denbigh was lost. Nice to see my old haunts . Some good memories here.

Yass from Denbigh as well!
I was born in Denbigh in 1944. My late father was the dispenser at Beech House, Vale St after being demobbed until we left for good in 1955. He was a local town councillor as well. My Taid ran a choir from Capel Mawr until his death in early 70’s. All connections to Denbigh are now completely severed except for residents in St. Marcella’s, Whitchurch cemetery. Personally, I have no wish to return.
This video is great, thank you for the tour!

I used to go to Ysgol Plas Brondyffryn Denbigh from 1983-1991. It was a great school and after Ysgol y Dyffryn closed down in 1985, Ysgol Frongoch moved into the school part and Brondyffryn had the use of the Residential part called Ty'n Fron as it was used for older children.

I'm old enough to remember when Brondyffryn was Denbigh's public swimming pool :)
My Grandfather was from Denbigh, my father was born in 1924 in shotton northeast England so my Grandfather moved up there to work in the coal mine in Shotton about 1915.

Really enjoyed the tour. Fascinated by the centuries old castle and church tower. Shame about the Mental. Same thing happens here in the States -- a magnificent structure is closed and then just decays and dies.

Unfortunately the closures of such Hospitals over here were a deliberate policy perpetrated by the hated Thatcher government :(

It looks like it's getting redeveloped now, made into flats I think, so at least the structure will be saved.

I worked in Denbigh for 12 years (in the Council Offices called “Caledfryn”) and enjoyed walking around the town when shopping or stretching our legs at lunchtimes. Before that, I was involved in many construction and refurbishment projects at Howells School, so I know the areas you walked very well. I still return every autumn for the Open Doors programme of heritage open days of buildings across the town and Vale of Clwyd. However it was cancelled this year because of Covid-19, so your video was a very welcome alternative. Diolch yn fawr iawn.

This is where my family are from, Denbighshire. Move to North America in early 1700's. Blevins is my surname. Welch spelling was Bleddyn or Blethyn. I am a descendant of Bleddyn ap Cynfan and Meredith (Maredudd) ap Bleddyn.

Well, Bych sounds very much like Buwch (cow), and there is an old local fairy-story connected to the name of Dinbych - often pronounced "Dimbych" by some of the oldsters. The story goes that a monster or "Bych" had taken over the castle and was terrorising the people of the town. Local hero, Sion y Bodiau "John of the thumbs" (he had extra thumbs on each hand), took on the monster, killed it in an epic battle, and freed the town from it's tyranny. It was said that the townspeople carried Sion y Bodiau on their shoulders throughout the town chanting " Dim Bych, Dim Bych, Dim Bych" - (No Monster). And that, according to the fairy story, is how Dinbych got it's name :)

@@WillHuw Yes, I think it has got a golf course too (9 holes?) That was part of its appeal as I used to play golf off a low handicap when I was a teenager and was keen to take it up again - mainly for the exercise.
