Where Does Space Really Start?
We live in Earth's atmosphere, but how much do we actually know about it? Where does space start? What are the differences of the atmospheric layers? This video answers these questions, and breaks down the different layers of Earth's atmosphere, including the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere, and what makes each one significant.
I hope you enjoyed this video, it took me a very long time putting it together, from researching it to battling to make a 4K video with my old computer! But I'm pleased with how it turned out. If you enjoyed, please, like, share and subscribe, as it helps me to make more videos like these in the future.

Hi subscribers, this is a reupload for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it was originally meant to be 4K but KZread didn't render it at 4K quality, so I'm hoping with an increased bitrate it will work this time. Secondly, there were a couple of (minor) mistakes with the original which have now been rectified. I want this channel to be as high quality as possible so if there are some things I have done wrong I will always try to mend them and not to make similar mistakes in future! The original is still on the channel but is just unlisted for the time being. I will eventually take it down altogether. Thanks for the understanding!

'...if there are some things I have done wrong I will always try to mend them and not to make similar mistakes in future!' That simple goal would save the world, but for now, it'll produce high-quality science entertainment. Thanks, Astrum!

Look up the Coors Lite video where they sent the full beer can into "space" on a balloon with a GoPro and thermometer. You can see the temperature variations that happen on the way up. Very cool.

Alex, this is probably *one of your best videos* you have ever done! Beautiful, insightful, educational! I love it!
Your videos are so thorough and amazing, always a pleasure to watch and learn from, keep up the great work!
It's mind-blowing to think that the actual temperature could be 2000 degrees celsius but because of the lack of gas particles, it will feel like below 0 degrees celsius, it's fascinating...

I just found your videos and I subscribed. Needless to say, I've found a new channel to add to my regular favorites. :) So very nicely researched and presented.
Thank you Alex for your videos. Clear, simple, truly educating and one of the calmest voices as commentary too. Truly great job. All the best.
Clear presentation about Earth's atmosphere.
Underrated channel. This is amazing....I suspect at least 60-100 hours on this one !!
Wow. Wow. Wow. Such a beautiful video, with ton of info. Thank you for creating such amazing content.
This was unbelievably comprehensive beyond expectation..and i have pretty high expectations..Thankful to have subscribed. Keep up the amazing work!!
Thanks for another great video! Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you for a wonderful video along with great explanation.
Beautifully produced documentary. Excellent research. I have been flying for over 10 years and have only for the first time witnessed Noctolucent clouds. Truly jaw dropping.
Hi Alex,I absolutely LOVE your channel,I always learn something new
Wonderfully clear…to be listened to many times! Thank you so much!
Alex, I think you are one of the outstanding presenters on KZread. Thank you for what you do.
I had already watched the video when you first uploaded it, and I have to admit that your channel has a pretty high quality video. Keep up the good work!
Proper work mate! Thank you so much for your exceptional work!!
been looking for some videos on layers of the atm and this has been the most informative!!
most interesting vid i've seen in a while, thanks!
Just happens to be an awesome way to explain how weather works, great job!

Great explanation of the Earth's Spheres. Nothing like this in science class at school. Very cool stuff.

One of your best. Just the atmosphere is amazing... Thanks!
Nice one Astrum. Extremely insightful. Could you do one on the Van Allens Radiation Belt? Would appreciate it. Cheerio! :)
TBH, I listen to your vids before going to bed, due to the calming effect of your voice and tempo. The subjects are of interest as well.
hank you for ths video, you have explained the Aptosphere so simply and easily, I really think I get it finally. I am an amateur Weather Enthusast too, so the names of the layers I know, but was unsure how high and what properties they had... now I can refer here to brush up!
Great vid as always. I rekon you're the best space science channel 👍
Great Experience.. Thank you sooooooo much. Lots of Love, Support and Blessings for you 🙏🙏🙏🙏😊👍👍💙
Very good video! I haven't seen that much detail about the atmosphere since I studied it in grad school. I like your pacing and presentation and the images you find to go with your narration are great. The only criticism I have is that the aurora are caused by charged particles from the sun spiraling down the earth's magnetic field lines rather than by radiation from the sun interacting with particles in the atmosphere. I look forward to more of your videos!
@eswing2153

jstrick38us the cause is charged particles circulating in the magnetosphere but the light is from interactions with the particles in our thermosphere.
You, Sir, are a very good teacher / sharer of knowledge. Concise, clear, simple and very well articulated. Presented for easy absorption. Sincerity and humility are easily consumed. False pride and filler are not very palatable. Thank you.
Very educational. Worth watching.
Very educational material presented in the most simplistic manner.
Thanks for the tip, I'd missed this one. Good stuff!
Love this video and really appreciate your efforts
Had no idea you could get clouds that Hi Up. Amazing. Also explained convection and the way it can cause storms and Hurricanes to spin in a way I understood for the first time in my life.
This was an AMEZING VIDEO! Many thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind help!
I love clouds
Thanks for the interesting and as always very informative video! A bit of additional info, the phenomena at 11:30 is know as irisation; it is very common at higher elevations even through the day. i see this many times a year living at about 8500 feet elevation.
I take a bow. Wow! just loved it. Third eye opener...
brilliant video my friend thank u for ur work
You are smart myguy👍🏾 and ur explanation and examples are easy to understand.
Superb video as usual. I never realised the layers were so distinct and related to temperature gradients. Also that the temperature dropped and then rose again! For myself as a middle aged viewer (54) who's mind never worked that fast anyway, I would like a little longer to view the stunning photos and diagrams alongside slower speech so I can take in one bit of information before you move on to the next.
That summed up 1 class lecture in physical geography. I loved that class.
I took a meteorology class in college, I’ve been in love with atmospheric phenomena ever since💕 Awesome video, thank you for putting such wonderful content online🙌🏼
Ya agree with @sc sc..from last comment The video quality and its contains are good... Really appreciate this video...as atmospheric science student this helps me lot...thanks buddy...
Thank you so much for this video!
Very Nice video Alex . You may have mentioned the Karman Line that separates Atmosphere from space.
indeed, i learned which i never learned before. Great work. God bless .

This was my favorite clip on the subject, so far, and I have looked at quite a few. Good work. However, I do believe the ionosphere and the turbopause are overlooked. The latter is a very interesting subject, that few people are aware of.
@astrumspace

I was thinking of adding the ionosphere, but with the runtime of this video as long as it was already, I thought it deserves its own video in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
Excellent job what a amazing video thanks
very good video presentation and explanation.
Beautiful presentation
This is the first video I've watched on your channel, and I'm suitably impressed. I've learnt more in this short video than I did in my whole schooling.
Very interesting, great narrative..thanks!!
Nice video, we’ve used your video in my highschool!

thank you very nicely presented. thank you!!
Alex, what is that at 0:13 ? It looks like a contrail at the edge of space. It's beautiful!
Another great video with exception production values. Also, thanks for the shout-out. I had not seen the original, and can't wait to watch this with my children.

this video just tripped me out since i knew two of these obscure things through random trivia assimilation.. my name is Hadley so thats why i remember the Hadley cells, one of the only times id ever see my name anywhere haha and Rayleigh scattering i learned about because of One Piece, when Rayleigh fights Kizaru, who has the ability to turn into light, and he can hold him off and 'scatter' him hahaha
Amazing video X)
There is some video on YT where someone saying no human yet left Earth's atmosphere as it continues beyond the Moon
I never would have guessed how interesting this video was actually going to be. You learn something new everyday? I just learnt 100 new things in 17 minutes 35 seconds. Congrats, amazing video, just like all your other videos. I will finally subscribe like I should have 50 vids ago.
Excellent
