Where Are The Aliens? | Cosmic Vistas | Spark

Ғылым және технология

Explore the question of the Fermi paradox: Given a few reasonable assumptions about the chance of life arising elsewhere in the universe and the distances between the stars, why haven’t we uncovered another civilization?
-
Season Four of Cosmic Vistas zooms in to focus on some familiar solar bodies within our reach. How well do we really know our celestial neighbours such as Saturn and Mars? What do we have yet to learn? With the help of satellite technology and the incredible shuttles that put them into orbit, many questions about our solar system's past and future are finally being answered by science.

One additional thought: The more sophisticated our signalling technologies get, specifically the algorithms we use to encode those signals on radio waves, the closer they are to white noise. The possibility exists that civilizations significantly more advanced than our own might just have radio frequency modulation schemes so complicated that they are (to us) indistinguishable from background noise, and encryption only makes it worse.

BINGO. I assume we used AMPLITUDE MODULATION (AM) the simplistic means to encode carrier ? What are the chances the entity that see's that message had the know how to extract that msg ? Found it frequency shift keying was used. What are the chances the entity would know about FREQUECY SHIFT KEYING ? Would they know about binary code system used ?

as a written i guess the great filter could be the life span of organisms, perhaps our is too short to become a star traveler civilization, a world with a complete different evolutionary mechanism and "DNA" can have live beings with a very longer life spam, then become a real star traveling civilization. they would simply dont bother with long distances, as long they can live 500~1000 years. our current missions are designed to not cost more than 20~30 years.

Radio communication is declining as more information is streamed online, and will possibly almost disappear as we change the technology we use for long distance communication. The same is likely true for othe civilizations meaning a mere 200 year timespan for detection of those signals. Compared to the age of the universe, even thousands of intelligent civilizations radio emissions would be difficult to detect, fleeting bubbles of emission...

I'm curious as to how old this doc actually is. Gotta be at least 10 years. From my perspective (I try to keep up on the latest scientific periodicals fresh off the minds of the leading researchers of various fields) approx 50% or more of the information in this doc is either incorrect, or has been modified since due to updates and new discoveries. In any case, it is just possible even probable that EACH planet is a unique, one of a kind ball of chemistry, activity, and gravitational, electromagnetic complexes. Each having incredibly sophisticated, interwoven, complex activity and interactions with its local celestial neighbours, and equally unique one of a kind star. What this means, is that organic biological life as we have it here on Earth, might very well be that particular singular attribute unique and in effect ONLY on this planet, because of a combination of elements and forces which have occurred here. Much like finger prints and DNA, or snowflakes. The planets are certainly analogues of living organisms in the sense they have a birth, life and death, and are very much active, each very unique and EXTREMELY complex, even though we do not see it from our perspective and vantage point. I can't expound on this here, but I could, and there are a LOT of evidence and factors which support this idea. Or if there ARE other planets which have the right stuff, they may be SUPER rare. I've been saying this for years - That We NEED to figure out in detail and for certain, exactly HOW life formed on Earth. Our science doesn't really know. It has some good working hypothesis but nothing in the way of a solid certainty. There are currently some radical new ideas due to advances in technology and new research. It also supports the unique Biological Earth probability. If we find out how life actually formed here - If it did, as opposed to interstellar panspermia -We would then be in a very good position to answer the question of life existing on other worlds. We really know so little about THIS world.

The problem i think has to do with Radio. Specifically how long does a civilization make "use" of HIGH powered radio, capable of leaving our atmosphere. At one time all street lights where flame lights. Candle, oil, or gas flames lite our streets and homes. today it is all electric. When i was a kid i had a shortwave radio and there were literally hundreds of powerful stations from around the world. I spent hundreds of hours listening to them. Today most are silent there is only a hand full left. Forty years most TV and cross ocean communication was via satellite relay. Today it is all faster radio silent optical fiber. I suspect over time a planet might grow more quite as radio is used less and less. One day something may come along and replace radio entirely. Something like quantum entangled comms or something like that. A hundred years from now we may be twice as advanced technologically and yet be radio silent. One day we may invent a quantum "radio" turn it on and hear thousands of aliens civilizations all talking to each other.

They will welcome us into their worlds, someday we will communicate thru the stars and as that day arrives so will our evolution of species to the point of Gee there they are Hello and as we as a people here on the earth suddenly realize that large eyes and small bodies don't mean small intellects and as the last of the panicers slowly understand because they have been living on the earth for two hundred years now ! they are family oriented and have one god just like us! They are even making themselves more like us to increase our populations on the many worlds they now inhabit they're tech has somehow sterilized them and they need us to save their species I believe they asked for permission from our leaders and it was granted Why wouldn't we? @@harrykuehb8938 Right. I think you're getting something confused here. Interplanetary travel: Traveling between different PLANETS in the SAME solar system. Interstellar travel: Traveling between different STARS in the same GALAXY. For interPLANETARY travel, we don't need warp drives. Nuclear fission or fusion rockets are quite good enough for that purpose. For interSTELLAR travel, a warp drive would be a nice thing to have, as it would allow travel at speeds closely approaching the speed of light, however even here it is not a "necessity" per se. For example, a "simple" (in comparison to a warp drive) beam-core antimatter rocket engine would be more than sufficient to be able to accelerate to maybe .5c and then still have enough fuel to slow down when nearing the destination (or you could use a magnetic sail to slow down without using as much fuel, which conceptually isn't that different from using a parachute to safely land on Earth from free-fall, and the magnetic field generator would probably be something you are already carrying as part of the radiation shielding of the craft). I'm all for the use of warp drives, but 1: They still can't go faster than light, and 2: Unlike virtually all other space propulsion methods we have thought up, we have literally not the first clue as to how to create one. We simply don't know how to "expand" space behind the vehicle, all we know is that mass causes space-time to curve, but for the purposes of the warp drive it curves in the "wrong" way. At least we know the physics behind how a beam-core antimatter rocket works, we can't say the same for warp drives because if you can curve space time in the way needed for a warp drive, you can also make antigravity repulsors, and we don't have any idea how to make those either. Basically, what we need is something that is REPELLED from a gravity field, and we don't even know if that's possible. That's one of the REQUIREMENTS for a warp drive to work. Basically, the math we have on warp drives starts with "assuming we can warp spacetime any which way at will, here's the spacetime geometry that will propel something in the middle of it at high velocity". That's all we know.

Let's take a different approach and say ET has been visiting us for decades now, more specifically right around the time the atomic bomb was developed. Let's think logically about why the governments of this world or world leaders wouldn't want the general public to know about ET? Well that is pretty simple, they don't want to lose the power and control over us. Mathematics dictates that with our universe being so vast that our human minds can't grasp the size that it is impossible we are alone. Think of it this way, our universe is infinite but is also finite. The universe is not really expanding, our ability to view it at long distances are just improving and even this doc makes that point with our telescopes getting more sophisticated and able to even carry programming on what to look for and so on. This isn't that hard to grasp though. Our world leaders want us to think we are alone, our universe is too vast, and our ability to actually tell the difference between "white noise" and ET's signal are just contributing factors. Our scope of what life should be on other planets should also be widen because there might be a planet out there where ET has evolved to live in a nitrogen atmosphere and be able to live off of nitrate rich liquid which if they made the trip to Earth, they would need their own "space suits" to even leave their crafts while they visit us. This all just a sticky situation because of those whom are in power don't want us to know so it would be up to ET to basically say, hey we are real and we come from this place over here. 👍

I can only think of one way to actually resolve this paradox. Go out there and use your eyes. That means we need to get interstellar travel running, but to do that we need interplanetary travel for humans to be working. So, the way to resolve this paradox is to colonize Mars, and the other planets, and then use the growth of the economy in the solar system to build interstellar scouting probes, so we can see where might have habitable planets, and then search and colonize those places, and also search and colonize the not-so-habitable planets and stars too. The only way to know something for sure is to go out there and find it. We can't stay passively looking and listening forever. Active searches turn up results much quicker than passive ones do.

The answer I'm afraid is that technology is doom, always. Why does anyone have any faith that this cycle of dominance and exploitation that humans have been pursuing with bloodthirsty abandon throughout our entire history will ever stop? It is a headlong fall into oblivion. Just take a look around--these electric lights and computer screens and automobiles and airplanes have brought nothing but misery to all who have touched them, whether we admit it or not. Sure, a trip to Hawaii is fun! We like to watch reruns of the Rockford Files. Fun! But deep down, we are already extinct, it's just a matter or one haywire commander-in-chief, one stray bomber. We are enslaved to technology and it will be our undoing. So that's why we haven't heard from aliens, because they're either relatively peaceful creatures living lives like all animals do or else they have created these tools of their undoing and are extinct or about to be. Happy New Year everybody!

I've heard all kinds of explanations for the belief in god, and all kinds of explanations for disbelief. Can they both be true? A handful of various religious leaders, and an equal number of varied scientists comes to a universal conscience Entity, that pervades their minds. The Entity demonstrates powers by creating an displaying another universe. The humans ask questions like how did you do this, who are you? The Entity communicates that it's able to do anything but doesn't know how. To the question of who It is, It answers "I am what I am!" All other questions are answered, "It is what it is." Both some scientists and religious leaders feel justified. Yet, they are all disappointed in knowing God, the Entity, is Stupid!! It just does things cause it has the power without understanding how, or having a good explanation. That there is no reason or foundational purpose for anything. Now you know! How about exploring that?! Of course, there some here that have already realized that science and religion could both be right. Strong POSSIBILITY!

@@Truthrevealed4022 A lot of assumptions and jump-to conclusions in your replies, which was to be expected. First; my government and yours are not the same one, for starters. Second; there is still no proof shown that intelligent alien lifeforms are currently visiting our planet. Third; show me proof, not "evidence" that is either manufactured, hoaxed, claimed, from hearsay,... something scientifically backed up and indisputable. Yes I did look into this more than once, as it certainly has my interest. Right now I place it at the same level as "god" and it appears to have the same logic and reasoning as religious groups and cults that in the end just want you a "believe" them without ever showing PROOF. Fourth; saying something is a fact, does not make it a fact. It only shows that you believe something, without having proof that your belief is an actual fact. I'm objective on the matter. Is it possible? Sure. Am I willing to take it for a fact? Sure, but only with proof. I uphold the same standards as I do with religion on this. Having said that; if you would ask me "Does alien life exist?", I would say that it would be mathematically close to impossible that it doesn't. The size of the universe, the amount of habitable planets orbiting stars, the amount of planets that enable life to exist is enormous. From a scientific point it would be naïve to state that alien life forms do not exist. We might even derive from one. But, there is no proof that we do, and there is no proof (or irrefutable evidence) that alien life forms are currently visiting our planet.

  • @PrimeRsoul

@@InterviewsWithTheAncients Read my other comment please, as you as well, are leaning on "evidence" rather than proof. While I understand your link to a courtroom, a court is not scientific proof. Its findings might be based upon evidence, the verdict is pretty much always based upon interpretation of evidence and amounts to an opinion which is displayed as "proven". And that only means that judge and/or jury find the presented evidence acceptable to come to a conclusion. Nothing of this is however scientific proof. On top of that you are comparing a "murder case" (something everyone knows is a reality) with a claim for which is no viable evidence to be found, and where some of the "witnesses "can't even be found, don't exist, or won't talk for various reasons (yes, I am familiar with the case). If I walk into a town where a certain religion is accepted as "the truth" and I somehow violate a religious law, and find myself in court, in front of a judge that is part of the same belief-system, I will most likely be found guilty. Not based upon scientific evidence and proof, but based upon a belief-system that has incapsulated itself from anything and anyone that wishes to think differently. Scientific proof, based upon testing that is repeatable by more than only the scientist(s) that present a claim is acceptable. Not stories from people that make claims that can't be scientifically verified. Not stories by people that claim that the claim they hear/read. Something that can indisputably show that a claim is true. Tests that independently and objectively by third parties over and over again, and come up with the same result. Keep in mind, something that isn't understood right now, could very well be explained in the future. If you already made up your mind then tunnel-vision will get in your way. Either way, eye-witnesses are NOT equal to scientific evidence. Bring me verifiable, repeatable, testable scientific evidence resulting in proof, and I'll accept.
