Landsat 8: The $900 Million Advanced Satellite | Cosmic Vistas | Spark

Ғылым және технология

Get a closer look at Landsat 8, the $900 million advanced planetary explorer that’s designed to peer across multiple wavelengths. Witness complex and ever-changing details about our planet that are undetectable by the human eye.
-
Season Four of Cosmic Vistas zooms in to focus on some familiar solar bodies within our reach. How well do we really know our celestial neighbours such as Saturn and Mars? What do we have yet to learn? With the help of satellite technology and the incredible shuttles that put them into orbit, many questions about our solar system's past and future are finally being answered by science.

I always enjoy your forward thinking, innovative videos. We want to explore the cosmos when we still have so much to learn about our own planet, especially the oceans and what lies beneath them. And also the damage we are causing to this planet. Landsat 8 look like it going to be a true technological marvel. As a scientist myself, I find these videos always have background historical narratives as well as current and future ones. All of which perfectly combine to paint the picture of the concept been portrayed. Keep up the great work.

I always sigh sadly thinking of Landsat 7's SLC failure and the associated data losses. LC8 is going strong though. Very powerful data. Also the move to open the entire Landsat data archive to the general public was one of the best decisions ever made. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

And to think, there are people who think this is all a lie. Some even say space is fake. And if you try to talk to them, you'll be attacked. Imagine, flat earthers in 2021.

Hold an apple a few mm from your camera lens. Take a picture. Aim your camera at an apple tree. take a picture. Which one shows the whole apple? We have plenty of composites (multiple photographs stitched together to create one image) that show our Earth much the same as we have images of other planets.

whoever made this needs to stop being so stupidly dramatic with technology. If two satelites fail, and one is on the launchpad, it does not mean that the program "hangs in the balance". It means that the new satellite better work or they gonna make another one
