No reason for people like that to be treated with respect. Treat them like they treated the other lady. Well done!

@@bumblebee7547 I actually once worked in a store where the owner said that we were to try to make the customers as happy as we could, unless they were obviously wrong, since the customer is NOT always right. We were to treat everyone with respect, but we were also to recognise that some people would try to rip off the store, and that we were to watch out for that. We had some people who would regularly try to bring things back for a refund, even though they'd already eaten most of whatever it was, or they claimed they never actually took what they paid for, even though I and/or another person had been on duty when they were in earlier. I could go on but I won't. Most of the time the customer is to be seen as right, yes, but a person has to have brains to recognise the limits of that.
Excellent! Just because they're paying customers doesn't entitle them to say whatever they want in your store.

Especially since she hasn't paid for anything yet.
It's not like she gave it to her for free, she's still PAYING for it, just getting the cheaper option, smfh
A wise woman once told me that the most important thing she ever learned about business is when to fire a customer.
As someon in the service industry, someone who lives off tips, I can tell you I always prefer a kind customer to a rude one, even if the kindness doesn't come with a tip. Serving the public is hard physical, mental, and emotional labor, and there's no good reason to make that harder.

i stated not looking at cards alltogether and just tell them what i feel like eating today...hot, cold, meaty, vegi, you name it, until they can narrow it down to one dish or drink to serve me. Not sure if im right with this but i feel like often waiters enjoy advising and helping me with what to order instead of just running around collecting orders. Its also way more enjoyable to tip these kind of waiters as i love to value the little bond we have forged about tasty food. Its part of the experience of eating. And i rather have a relaxed waiter than a stressed one of course.

Genuine question: Do you prefer being paid the way you are now, or making about the same amount but higher wages with no tips, or does it make no difference?
@ArabicLover101

@@aporiferaI think the tips. From what I know, tips are the way the servers make most of their income, with a small portion being their income from the company and the remaining from the tips.

@andrefasching1332 it's kind of rude to make the wait staff guess or figure out foe yiu what you want to eat. Most would prefer you actually read the menu before they come to your table to take their order. They don't have time to be playing guessing games with you. Having specific questions about the food is fine, but saying "I want to eat something meaty and hot" is probably half the menu. You're not doing them a favor by asking them to figure out what to eat for you, especially since a lot of restaurants don't give their employees any kind of gratis meals anymore, and they may not be able to afford to eat there, so they may have no idea what most of the menu even tastes like.
I wonder what her reaction would be after Alice proved to her she was non-desperate when she said "The door is that way".

Asking for the manager, refusing to leave until threatened with police, screaming like a baby, leaving an extremely rude review on google maps and yelp. I am pretty sure that customer would have bought only the cheaper, one day old cake.

My dad had a customer like that in his butchers shop. Dads partner, Barry, would always serve her. He would say things like, "This is very expensive". She enjoyed talking loudly, so the other customers COULD hear and announce " don't worry Barry , money is no problem to me". Barry always overcharged her and she loved Barry's loudly announcing the total cost. I hope that's within your budget". She usually left with a satisfying smile on her face.

Sounds like a win-win for everybody! 😁
The only thing more important than a customer in my shop is a good customer, good customers are polite with the staff, pay punctually and don't disrupt my bussiness and bring down my shop good name by, for example, being rude about other customers. I prefer not to loose customers, but I absolutely can not afford to loose good customers. Sometimes you have to choose one above the other.

Why am I angry at an imaginary person? Great acting!
That last one makes me so happy. We don't need you, you don't need us. Service is a courtesy.
Several customers who buy the cheaper option will make you more money than one customer buying the more expensive cake.
If she thought the lady was so poor and couldn't afford a little muffin for her childs birthday then she should've taken out her wallet, paid for it and then she could brag to all her friends she donated to charity! No not everyone can afford a cake or presents on birthdays.. don't try to make them feel bad about it I'm sure they feel worse on their own then you could ever get close to making them feel by putting your nose into their business!
You are growing from strength to strength
Yeah! You don't need people like her as customer. Serves her right!

Those people are toxic. If they are going to complain about other customers and their financial status. Yeah it's missed up but in the end every customer counts can't complain. But all you can do is just let the Karen know "either you want to buy something and be respectful. Or leave the shop!" Simple as that and yeah cakes are expensive thank God I bake my own for the occasions. Blessings to you. 🙏🏻💖🔥

What a clear way to let her know that you have pride in your business. Not just a search for cash.

I would have probably offered to pay for something to make it a little bigger or more special.
Bakeries aren't exclusive clubs that require dues and memberships. They're public establishments where people can spend their money as they choose. It's not the kind of place that needs a credit report to decide if you should be served or not
The only time I got a "custom" cake was just having a picture of the Normandy SR1 from Mass Effect put on a standard white cake.
Saying first so the others don’t have to ❤️
I worry about the amount of Karens that apparently live in your city! I honestly always thought the Irish were pretty laid back😅
I have not yet bought a cake in my live. But 35€....to make a child incredibly happy with a themed cake while the parent can focus on other preperations? What? Thats incredibly wholesome and just so convenient. Im strongly considering visiting your shop for the sake of buying one myself.....if the trip from austria wouldnt be just too darn expensive...smileyface.

And rightfully. harassing another person is not ok.
I remember one of my kid's first birthday. We could't afford for a cake. ANY birthday cake. I bought the ordinary cake, cut it in a round form, I've put a candle on top... Kid was happy to just blow the candle and ate like one or two bites. Today I can afford for playground and stuff. Some time ago I gave one colleague a coupon to the toy store and I told, that it has expiry date and I won't use that, which was a white lie, cause I didn't have to use bonus points at work. When I could't afford toys and cake for my kid nobody offended me like that but I remember this blasted cut-off-cake and this feeling "I-Cannot-Afford-This" till this day. If this movie is based on real situation, THANK YOU FOR TEACHING THIS AWFUL WOMAN A LESSON.

Honestly, Oliver’s mum was just getting a cheaper option that’s all. Isn’t that what people usually do? Get cheaper options wherever possible? Like I do.
I don't know what country you are in, but if this was the US, I would bet anything that 2nd lady has maxed out all her credit cards to keep up appearances. Conversely, the 1st lady is careful with her hard earned money and likely has a lot less debt since she doesn't buy things she can't afford.

Are these stories… true?!?! 100%?!?? Wow
Clap clap clap :D
I'm confused what was this caring asking? She wanted the shop owner to deny service to a lady just because she could barely afford it? Like how much extra money do you have to have after buying something before this Karen would be okay with you buying it? Just ridiculous. There was a video game I played where you needed 950 points in order to buy something but it wouldn't let you buy it unless you had 951 points lol
I grew up poor. And you know what makes people even poorer than they already are? No matter how many jobs and how much overtime they have? No matter how much money they save. No matter hoe much they starve themselves and refuse any sort of entertainment? Wanna know what makes someone like me poorer? Rich people that have this disturbed picture that poor people should not have any nice things. I hope those people that habe said something along the lines of "oh you would serve someknr like that, oh they cant be poor they have a phone, poor people are just lazy and so on" go through the same experiences most poor people go through. THERES LITERALLY NO OTHER WAY FOR YOU TO LEARN THAT. So im grateful you just kicked that person out (even if its judt a skit). People like that need to learn how to be more caring in how they act anf speak.
Cakes for boys? But you named all girl themes... Ocean, rocket and space. 🤔
chad
maybe she’s saving money to buy him gifts or basic necessities. you have no right to judge someone just because they can’t afford a *cake.*
I did some thing similar once, I had a customer who begged for a discount being hard up for money so I told her a time that I could do the work cheaper because I had to go to her area at that time any way and I would not charge her for the time I normally would. She responded that no she needed me to do it at an exact time so I went and said I was not going to do the work at any price now. I had had too much experience of the people who demand the lowest prices expecting the best service.
