    Yeah I mean trombone is in almost every way a strictly worse instrument than trumpet, but this is one of those instances where someone is able to pull off an interesting bone solo without just turning it into an emulated trumpet solo

    It's very interesting to me how ''stank face'' prooves that music is a universal language. I mean, we all have our personal feelings towards music, and each one of us reacts to music in his own way, but when you hear groovy stuff like that, everybody (except for people who don't have a soul) reacts the same way : stank face. And what a weird reaction, stank face looks like as if you were mad . Like , ''this shit it so groovy it makes me mad!!!''

    @@eriklagergren7124 And, to go into the technical side of things, makes it a LOT easier to go that high above the staff while still projecting your sound. You want your top lip touching halfway down the bottom of the mouthpiece with your bottom lip slightly curled under it while buzzing extremely fast for that high of a note, so yes, extremely important to keep that horn tilted to the sky.

    Trombone Shorty puts on the most energetic performance I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot! I mean.. the dude's hopping all over the stage then he jumps off the stage into a huge crowd WITH his trombone and continues soloing whilst his saxophone players follow him down, and he's all surrounded by fans dancing and taking photos and he somehow manages to continue his awesome trombone soloing without whacking anyone in the head with the extenda-bits (as least as far as I could tell) .. he's mah man. ❤

    I know what you mean about solos feeling like wankery. I listen to ALOT of 70s/80s metal and classic rock and pink floyd is the only band who's solos have never once felt like tacked on JackYourDickery, every other band has at least one solo I could've done without.

    Trombone shorty is an insane artist. I saw him a couple years ago at a small jazz fest and he was so down to earth and humble. Amazing musician, great musical group, highly recommend checking them out of you haven't. Stuff like this is a very common occurance during his shows

    If I want to know what time it is I pick up my trombone and start playing. When the neighbours shout "who's playing trombone at 3am?" I can't hear as I'm playing my trombone. Luckily my hand keeps moving back and forth tho so I can occasionally check my watch.
