how nostalgic can you play

Музыка

Transcription of the clarinet and tenor sax solos on Blue and Sentimental by Count Basie, as played by the Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble at Essentially Ellington 2022. I just recently heard this recording, and both these solos are incredible. I seriously feel nostalgic about them despite having heard them very few times. I hope you enjoy the video!
Soloists:
Sean McCoy (Clarinet)
Zeb Jewell-Alibhai (Tenor Sax)

It's a real pleasure to see all these young people rethinking the music of the 'old' ones. With good taste and sensitivity. The clarinet sounds sometimes like PW Russell in the high notes and the tenor solo is of a very high level. We are on the right track with this new generation who not only know the 'tradition' but are also able and aware to bring new things. Congratulations to all of you.😀

I wonder if this piece would induce nostalgia/melancholy in someone who never before knew of anything related to european/american culture, like a monk in tibet or maybe congolese tribesmen. Is it something intrinsic in the music that makes us interpret it this way or is it just our own life experiences?

As a saxophonist, I envy the sound of a great orchestra. Absolutely criminal that saxophones have been introduced into the majority if orchestras around the world

Violinists have just as much a space in jazz as clarinets. Don't be afraid to seek a place to bring your own beautiful solo to people
