I've always loooved that interaction at 1:38 ! Check it out, first Dave Weckl goes along with Chicks rhythmic displacement to magically pivot to accompany Mike Pope on bass with that exact rhythmical phrase. That's communication on three levels. Insane! What part do you like about this solo? Drop in the comments below. ⬇ As an aside, if you dig Chick's amazing bebop playing here, we might have something for you ➡ We've set out a trail to learn Bebop phrases straight from the legends in small feasible steps. While I totally adore Coreas solo, I think what really gets me is the band's rhythm section setting up Marienthals solo immediately after.

Feel in love with Jazz back in the 80s, when I was in my early 20s after being introduced to Joe Sample, who was a friend of my older sister and her husband, in Mammoth Lakes Calif! He invited me to his concert at the Main Lodge and have been hooked ever since. How could I not get hooked with that introduction to Jazz!!! ;)

Oh yes, and a pretty amazing one too! That bonus take on the Three Quartets album in duo with Michael Brecker is on such a high drumming level.

@@SharpElevenMusic Thanks. That's a new name for me. Looking him up I see that he played with Bill Bruford, which I'd missed.

He is a player that played at a point with some of the best fusion artists. But don't know why, he was a little bit flying under the radar. Here he serves as Pattituci's sub, I don't know if he was somewhere a full member of a known group
